Squirrel Stapler - An Edutainment Squirrel Horror Game That Involves Squirrels, God & Tense Hunting 

it"s nice that the game doesn't even pretend that you're playing an even remotely sane character and goes for the dessicated corpse tied to a wall right at the first few seconds.

The game is unnerving in the sense that while you're hunting the squirrels, you almost forget why. It's not presented as something evil, it's just you in the moment, harvesting squirrels for your dead wife.

“There are more squirrels than you have bullets... and you have made them very angry.” WHY is this so threatening to me lmao

Corpse: "I want skin. Give me back my skin or give me yours instead" Manly: "Nope, you're gettin squirrels."

Literally 20 seconds in and there's a bloody corpse... The game doesn't want to pretend its a "friendly" game lol

Honestly, the whole god sequence at the end was pretty great.

a bizarre game that actually gave a huge scare at the end. its crazy, the build up the atmosphere led to you panicking and it reached the climax, then GODISHERE

Imagine going for a leisurely stroll across the countryside and suddenly a timer reading "GOD IS COMING" appears at the top of your vision, and starts counting down from 2 minutes

Fun fact: That circle of stones is a Fairie circle, and the reason you take damage is because the fae are trying to kidnap you.

I don't know why, but the "you are sleeping" screen is hilarious to me.

Lesson to all: don't sneak behind a guy with a gun. God or not. I still wanted to know what that last note said.

12:00 One day, Mom was watching a squirrel eating what looked like a particularly large nut. Upon closer inspection, she discovered it was gnawing at another squirrel's severed head. I'm glad that we're not the only ones who know they're capable of this.

I like how all the notes that progressed genuinely had absolutely nothing to do with you, they were basically just distractions. Massive demon squirrels and ghost squirrels were weird, but I have no issue admitting I genuinely jumped from fear when the Squirrel God popped up.

After hearing the “fact” about squirrel regeneration I was hoping the facts would get more and more nonsensical, it kinda did that with the whole deboning thing but some build up like “Squirrel fact: there have been nearly 1000 human deaths directly attributed to squirrels” and “Squirrel facts: It can take as little as 5 squirrels to overwhelm and kill an adult human” then ending with the deboning thing. Idk

I think both stories had everything to do with the plot. The artist story is spot on- our "hero" is an insane artist with an insane, artistic goal, one that not only is unreasonable, but also directly pisses off the local forest god. Secondly, I think the secret agent in the hut IS the main character- he went insane after being touched by the spirit of the forest and developed a strong attachment to squirrels, went back, grabbed his wife, and skinned her to give her some furskin. So eldritch force drives man crazy, crazy man comes up with a crazy goal, and manages to piss off the eldritch force, which kills him. And then probably runs off with his wife.

"I mean, do you think that God will come down from heaven and stop me from stapling squirrels?" "Oh man, I shot God in the face."

*SQUIRREL FACTS:* Squirrels cannot regenerate limbs. Only few animals can do that, mostly reptiles. Squirrels do not have gastric mills either. It's something that crustaceans have. And no, squirrels can't debone a human male in under three hours. It actually takes them only two hours.

the music on the remaining count down actually got me on edge, i screamed at the giant head

Sadly, squirrels cannot regrow limbs IRL. However, they have evolved to have the flesh and fur on their tail's come off easily if it gets snagged by a predator, so they can escape. The tail flesh does regrow given time.

God was nothing like I expected him to be. At least he was smiling, though.

I still can't believe that this was the same guy who made Dusk. I love developers who aren't afraid to shitpost.

This game is such a strange mix of dark comedy, surreal horror, and environmental story telling. It helps that the same guy who made this made dusk and iron lung.

the panicked camera movement when it the "God" popped up behind him made me laugh because it was just "where is it? where is it? OH shit there it is!"

That ending. That. Damn. Ending. That right there is how you properly build up a scare. You give no clues as to when it will appear or even what it will look like when it appears. A timer and building group of people chaotically saying that God is coming build tension easily, and with the closing of the timer, the "God is here" literally made me turn down my volume out of fear. Well done to the devs of this game. Y'all did great! 🐿️

the choirs make the appearence of god scarier than the jumpscare itself because they give off the same feeling as hearing a song in a dream

So, a fun little fact about "God" that pops up at the end of the game. From the brief glimpse that I saw, I think the model is based off of a picture of satan in the Codex Gigas. The similarities of the creatures's head and whatever that thing that popped up are pretty similar.

_Squirrel's revenge_ I loved the You Win at the end, after your character faced the Cosmic Squirrel God. The win was not sanity, I'll say that much. You & the artist had a lot in common, both creating what should never have been created. No wonder nature turned against you. The notes were absolutely worth it in this game. Squirrel claws are pretty sharp. As cute as it is handing nuts to them to take, their wolverine claws cut my thumb open. They just don't know their own strength :( Haven't lost an eyeball yet though.

Squirrels can survive falls from greater than 30 feet actually its pretty impressive how they respond to falls almost like machines they figure nearly exact angles and control their landings much like masters of parkour

Ngl, that god section was pretty well made, nice scary atmosphere... And I'm not sure if God appearing where they did counts as a "cheap jumpscare"... But it was pretty effective.

That fucking ending part hypes you up so much for a fight and then just spooks you in the worst way. I've seen other people jump at that part in the exact same way, it's just so well done

my brother told me to play this one I was in the house ontop of the hill hiding in the corner scared looking left and right and at the end when i looked behind me all i can see is the wall and suddenly the music stopped and i won the game i got so confused? until my brother came and said "did you finish it?" i said yes and then he said "did you get scared when you saw god?" i said no? then i told him everything that happened so he linked me this video and honestly. i'm glad i hid in that small house

the regrowing limb thing about squirrels was sort of correct, their tails can be ripped off with very little harm and regrow.

what’s crazy is, apparently, in the game’s code, God is ALWAYS right behind you, he just stops hiding at the end and that’s why he’s right there when you turn around.

The ending jump scared me too, but I had to laugh after because watching Manly absolutely tweaking out trying to find out where it's coming from was so relatable lmao.

That story ended like Patrick Star’s story about “The Ugly”. They both died the end.

When god spawns, he follows behind you, if you turn slowly you can see a part of him, and you can shoot hit if you turn all the way at the right speed, it does nothing, but makes it look cooler.

That sequence at the end was way more eerie than it had any right to be The chanting at the end made me feel so uncomfortable for some odd reason, especially the "God Is Here" part

It's all fun and games until I'm forced to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion so that I can come back with a full understanding of the deepest lore in the Manlyverse Saga.

Squirrels are very cute but they're as murderous and terrifying as seagulls. Absolutely adorable, unlike seagulls, but even more bloodthirsty. Even more murderous than rabbits in my opinion. But also very cute.

David Szymanski made Dusk, which is an absolutely amazing game that you should absolutely play.

A moment of applause for the way the dev spawns in God, the timer hits 0:00 and it seems that it then waits for another few seconds before spawning the head thing right behind the player which is so much better then just having a the thing spawn from a distance and then quickly chase you which is what you expect
