True love songs of the 1980s by true artists who showed talent, vocal range, dance moves. Stacy lattisaw's signature rings on her fingers truly match her talent. It's a shame that music doesn't exist like this anymore.
I remember my mom telling me the story about how she had Soul Train going on the TV when this played and when she saw the young woman singing it she was just amazed. Great times these day's.
After she recorded this........ It became HER song!!!!!!! The ORIGINAL was never the same!!!! and funny story they were getting ready to sing this song at their concert and the audience started to BOO, then told them to stop singing STACEY'S SONG. The lead singer said that was the day he learned they didn't own this song anymore because some little girl came and took it!!! Stacey said that was the best compliment she ever got in her life!!!!!! So cute they didn't get mad or say do your homework we recorded this song before Stacey was even BORN!!!!! Which I think is actually true!!!!! LoL
Yeah, definitely from the specific audience generation at the time in the early 80’s who were introduced to Stacey’s version. Most of us (our generation) from the early 70’s original version are familiar with it but acknowledged that Stacey’s version superseded theirs. It’s similar to Whitney Houston’s massive I Will Always Love You cover has overtaken Dolly Parton’s original version. Sometimes covers will defeat or surpass the originals too even though a lot of people like originals more, Stacey’s was an exception
Agreed. There are few cases where the cover version outdoes the original version, and you could make a case for this song. Some people say that Celine Dion's version of "If You Asked Me To" was better than the original by Patti LaBelle...while it performed better chartwise, it's open for debate whether Celine's version was truly better than Patti's....you could make a case for both versions, really.
I remember where I was when I watch this episode of solid gold. I had just lost my first love and she did lived in a house of a two way street. Guess what the song did to me.
I would marry this woman... till this day, if I could ❗My favorite female artist. A long with Whitney, Teena Marie, Janet Jackson, & maybe Melba Moore ❗
Yes I’d go for Teena Marie big time! Loved Teena’s looks and her voice! Wow! And I loved Stacy’s vocals as well!!! We will never have ladies like we had in the 80’s!! Sure do miss those days!!
Not really. Janet Jackson wasn’t singing when Stacy started, and many (many) other female R&B singers in same era as Janet Jackson. They sang different music, Stacy known for her ballads. Michael Jackson picked Stacy to be opening act for The Jackson’s tour when she was in her teens.
