Stan is Maori thru and thru, He was born in Australia and moved between the two countries, he has now settled with his beautiful family back in his ancestral homeland in Aotearoa (NZ). In this song he says He is Maori Forever.
Yes and moved back to NZ at 2 weeks old Raised in NZ amongst his family totally immersed in his Māori culture The family moved back to Australia when he was 16 won Australian idol at 18 eventually moved back to NZ.
Born in Australia and moved back to NZ as a baby. Went back to Oz as a teen and won Australian Idol. The music industry told him he had to be less Maori and brown. He didn't re-sign and he returned to Aotearoa, NZ. Since then has been the most influential contributor of Maori culture in his song writing, environment, producing music videos, clothing and much more. The BEST F* you to the music industry and their ignorant backward executives.
Outside of Jamaica, New Zealand has the biggest listeners and lovers of Reggae music. You can hear reggae played on our marae throughout our Māori nation.
When Marley came here in 1979, Stan wasn't born but no doubt his parents were at the one n only Western Springs concert ❤️💛💚🔥 along with thousands of us and our Polynesian whānau (family) .... We had mass protests here with the Land March in 1975, Bastion Point in 1977 to 78 and Bob was talkin revolution ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 ... and reggae beats are pretty similar to the way we play guitars and sing anyway so it is easy for us to play, there are many great reggae bands here as there are in Te-Moana-nui-a-Kiwa, the Pacific Islands ... Stan is just a very humble paboy doing what comes natural to him with his powerful pipes and his blessed talented whānau, hapū and iwi .... As Māori, we all trace our whakapapa (geneology) back to our mountain, river and lands (those that weren't stolen by colonial forces) and we stand on the shoulders of our illustrious tīpuna (ancestors) and their knowledge passed down through Te Reo Māori me onā tikanga, our cherished language and philosophies .... Our tīpuna fought and died for our future against all odds, the colonisers tried to get rid of us and failed and each generation continues the fight for our #ManaMotuhake, our right to self governance and for #ManaMokopuna, power to our generations to come .... Enjoy 😊 ....he poho kererū mātou ki a Stan me ōna pukenga mīharo rawa atu💓.... We are so proud of Stan, Karawhiua ki te ao e kare ... PS ... The weapons are real, the white Patu the woman hold are traditionally made from whale bone, the green patu made from our jade which we call Pounamu and the Taiaha carved from native trees ... They are deadly in the hands of those who know our martial arts js ....
Aww truely mesmerizing i can sink into his voice stan is a fan of reggae music it's so wonderful how he's keeping reggae music alive it's truly mind blowing 😊
Reggae is popular in New Zealand especially among the indigenous Māori community. This community forms the roots of Stan's heritage, his identity and culture, reflected significantly in this video. I do not understand the comments about his origin. While Stan lived his formative years in Australia like so many New Zealanders do, he identifies culturally and his nationality is 100% New Zealand Māori. Have a great day.
That's right. Being born in Australia does not necessarily make you Australian. You have to be born to at least one parent with Australian citizenship. He's 100% Maori and we come from Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Reggae is pretty big in our country a lot of us were brought up listening to Bob Marley as Stan said while intervewing ziggy we call him uncle Bob lmao

We love reggae and dub in Aotearoa NZ, Home of Fat Freddie Drop, salmonella Dub, The Herbs, house of Shem and many more!!!! Stans origins are Maori from NZ he lived in Australia for a while and Won Australia Idol, helping bring his Talent to the world!!!!
He applied for and got Australian citizenship in 2012. Your not "born" Australian if your parent(s) aren't Australian. I think that applies in most countries though. He identifies as NZ Maori, loves his country and his culture...but loves Australia too.
Stan was born in australia- He was born into a violent family, and his father was in and out of prison, and his mother had family in Australia,When his father was in prison,or his mother needed to escape his violence, she would pack the rest of his family up and move to australia(and its pretty easy for nz and Australians to migrate between both countries),Stan was born during one of those escapes, his father ended up reforming himself, and they became deeply religious, and are a very tight-nit family today, but yeah born in Australia to NZ maori parents, mainly raised in NZ by his family and Hapu(sub-tribe/wider family) according to maori customs,so technically australian by birth, but culturally, genetically and identifies as an indigenous Maori new zealander.
His heritage is New Zealand Maori, very respected in NZ. Just love this new song of Stan’s , mind u I love all his music. From a kiwi as u would call us here in New Zealand.
Although close Australia is located just west of Polynesia but both nations are part of Oceania. Which is confusing. But both are places that feel like home for many of us.

Apologies yes he was born in Aotearoa moved to Australia but now resides in Aotearoa NZ. He is humble, a surviver a truely good person. His amazing vocals and his undeniable faith in God is evident. His passion for our culture and our Reo (language) is staunch. He is a beacon for all indigenous people out there who are facing detrimental issue's. Kia kaha from Aotearoa NZ
Stan is from my tribe Tuhoe among others, we are Maori from Aotearoa/New Zealand. He was born in New Zealand like me but moved next door to Australia young. Australia is right next to New Zealand. He grew up in Australia and went back home to New Zealand later. We are indigenous to Aotearoa New Zealand so that is the land where we come from, not Australian land, the aboriginals are the first nation people of Australia.
