The initial confusion surrounding Kadri's OT goal reminded me of Kane's Stanley Cup winner in 2010 and Bieksa's stanchion goal in 2011. Most didn't know what happened but started cheering because everyone else is cheering.
Those are the worst. I was thinking that during this goal. I was glad it wasn’t a Cup winner, because not knowing, and then confusion, and then being told it went it. It kills the vibe. Because you don’t get that definitive game winner right away with everyone all at once. You can’t jump in excitement if you aren’t sure. And then when you are, it’s like. Oh ok. Wait we sure. Ok cool. Yay, i guess. Damn it’s all over.
@@WaybetterthanBron23 Hahaha! Yes definitely a strange celebration for all. Being delayed and all. But I actually started celebrating as soon as I saw Kane reacting. I knew he knew what all else didn't. I knew he had to see the puck resting peacefully in the net, hehe.
Brings back memories of 2001 as an 11 year old looking up to Joe Sakic as a player and a captain. 21 years have gone by and nothing has changed besides Joe in the GM role now. Very nostalgic! Now we just got to get the job done!
Agreed. I was 12 when they won it. Eccentric since mini mights I have been an Avs fan. We have been waiting a long time for this. Fingers crossed my friend!
Steve Yzerman built this Lightning team as Tampa GM. Him and Joe are both 1st class champions. Now that Steve is Detroit's GM and the team is in the East, I would love to see a Det-Col final. Of course my Wings gotta get back to the playoffs first. Here's hoping.
@@vortex.3562 good for him because he is going to get stacks. Bad for him because it probably won’t be with the avs and the avs are going to be contenders next year and the year after and the year after.
Yep.... I just commented saying he could've smoked their goalie on that game winner with a flying knee.... but he didn't because he's just playing hockey.....
@@qwerty112311 maybe get a discount?.... probably right though.... got that new kid that's going to turn heads next year oskar olausson on a wing.... but the Avs did prove they can contend with out Kadri... I hope he stays some how.... but 1st Joe needs to get MacKinnon signed long term after July 1st then can see what they got to play with......
My opinion isn't biased, but let's be honest... Artturi Lehkonen has been insanely important for Avs in their playoffs run. He has assisted/scored so many important goals for Avs. Thank you Mikko Rantanen, who recommended him when Avs management asked if Lehkonen is worth to acquire. ;)
GO AVALANCHE! Kadri, injured and comes back after surgery. Its only his hand but ya kinda need those in hockey 😂 OT the Avs looked like game 2. In regulation a lot of time in the defensive zone. My heart can’t take this Lol
What a game! Bolts were overwhelming in the 1st period, and, other than the unlucky de-masking, Kuemper was solid! Avs battled back and finally managed to break through 5-on-5 from their 4th line to send it to overtime. Other than a few shots and a couple bobbled pucks, overtime was all Avalanche. What a redemption story with Kadri sneaking the sick shot through Vasi! Avs have a chance to win the cup at home, but the Bolts will not go quietly. Can't wait until Friday!
I'm surprised there wasn't an "intent to blow the whistle" clause inserted in that play Either it was too fast for the ref to react that way, or Betteman phoned in through their earpieces.
The Hedman goal was super weak. The other not so much. He made a couple good stops before he lost his lid. Darcy played just as good as the best in the league tonight
The backhander, other than that he was SOLID AF. BS no goalie interference on the 1st goal. IMO EJ should've went up to Vasky and whacked em in the facemask I mean it's notta penalty after all.
Avs extremely deserved this win tonight. All over the bolts in OT. Absolute power house of a team. (Fingers crossed) I think the bolts have found their match. I'm not even an Avs fan, but eff Corey Perry. Find A Way!
Don’t celebrate yet. I really believe Colorado needs to close it out next game. I don’t like their chances having to go back to Tampa for a game 6 if it gets that far.
While Kadri did put a lot of effort into getting that OT goal, that was a perfect pass from Lehkonen to set that up. Through the neutral zone and traffic to set him up beautifully. Ol Burnaby Joe made some good moves this season to get a solid playoff run. The Avs deserve a cup more IMO, the way Sakic built the team, and MacKinnon can’t not have a cup.
@@tod5098 I think what determines the better team is the final score and last I checked avs won 3-2 (tamps might have played better throughout but it’s about the finish not the start)
@@yoniboboshov500 no, final score does not always determine the better team, you can't be that clueless. It determines who wins the game. Avs were lucky as hell. Tampa played better, but the Avs won. Happens all the time.
@@shawngillogly6873 Avs hit at least 4 or 5 crossbars in the 3rd. Both Avs goals were lucky deflections. Don't pretend they weren't. Bolts were the better team LAST NIGHT, but they didn't get the bounces.
The Avs dug deep. It took everything they had to pull off this overtime victory. Everyone did their part. Kuemper. The Bottom Six. Mackinnon. Most importantly, Nazem Kadri came through in his first game in the Stanley Cup Finals. What a great heads up play by Artturi Lehkonen to push the puck to Kadri. If he is not scoring game winning goals, he is setting them up. I also applaud Kuemper for redeeming himself and Bednar having faith in his goaltender. It takes a lot of guts to bounce back after a off night against the defending champs. This is the 9th comeback playoff victory which is now a new franchise record. Cerank’s injury really hurt the Bolts in overtime because the Avs aggressively pushed the puck into the O-zone for the game winner. The Bolts were gassed after regulation. They were unable to contain the Avs as they turned up another gear with great opportunities including 2 shots hitting the posts. Landeskog showed up like a boss. He dominated the faceoffs tonight with a 65.4% FOW (17 out of 26 attempts). Regarding Cirelli’s goal, we can debate on whether it should be a goal or not all we want but it won’t change anything. The lack of calls from the refs were very suspect all night for both teams. In the end, the refs decided to swallow their whistles and let the teams decide the game for themselves. I personally believe that was the right decision because neither team can say the refs influenced the game. I said the Avs in 5 against the Blues, Oilers and Bolts. I was off by one in rounds 2 and 3. Maybe this time, third time is the charm. Friday can’t come soon enough.
As a Red Wings fan, I never thought I would ever root for the Avs, but I have been since they made the playoffs. I also rooted for some other teams, but they were eliminated. Go AVs!
I remember watching the wings and the Avs back in the day…normally in the conference finals, now those were some great series to watch. I’m enjoying this final also, really good hockey, the last 2 not so much
@@brokenglassboy860 You said it. Honestly, I'm just so bored of the bolts winning and want to see the Avs take it home. An absolute powerhouse of a team who absolutely deserve the cup. Find A Way! -Bruins fan
Nazem Kadri, playing with a broken thumb. Because it’s the Cup. And it’s time for the critics to put some respect on Kuemper’s name, because he had another fantastic game tonight.
@@montuckyman4982 It takes about 6-8 weeks to heal and about 3-4 months for full power to return to your thumb even after surgery. Him coming back in 18 days , a little over 2 weeks is absolutely gangster.
There is talent on this AVS team that have deserved a cup for a while now...EJ, Mack, Makar, Lehky, Landy, Rantanen, Nichushkin, Towes, Kadri. Get this one for those guys and let's see one of them (or all) on the NHL 23 cover please.
Bolts left it all out there. Totally smoked in OT. It’ll be a tall task to win in Denver Friday. But whats life without a little hope. Gritty win by Colorado they earned it.
Nice going Kadri I bought a car from your dad once he gave me a good deal he was so proud of you way back then, I'm pretty sure he had tears in his eyes on That one keep it up, I hate to see you guys Lose now, this from a Montreal fan from London!!!!
* Darcy Kuemper became the first goaltender in NHL history with an overtime assist in a Stanley Cup Final game and the fourth in any playoff contest, following Pekka Rinne (Game 6 of 2016 R2 w/ NSH), Tuukka Rask (Game 4 of 2010 CQF w/ BOS) and Dominik Hasek (Game 3 of 2002 CF w/ DET). Go Avs!!! Colombia 🇨🇴!!!!!
to my understanding that whenever the goalie mask comes off,,,,the game comes to a complete stop...but yet the ref who right there when Kuemper mask came right off...should f waved off that goal...unbelievable
I know the Avs have a lot of good free agents after this year. I hope they give Kadri the money to come back though. He's just been the difference maker in so many games this year for the Avs.
Feel like this game really determined who was gonna win it all. Avs wins means the Lightning are gonna have a really REALLY hard time winning 3 straight especially if 2 are at Colorado and if the Lightning won then the Avs would be in heavy trouble. It’s almost fitting that this game was so close since it’s such a pivotal moment
i expected a close game, even ot game. another blow out would have done av's no good. this keeps them more focused and puts all the pressure on tb now.
Big time play by Kadri. I hope that his dream of the Stanley Cup comes through! Liked him when he was on the Leafs too. But the series is not over until 4 games are won!
I knew the deeper this went into OT that it would favor the Avs. The Lightning look like a tired team to me, and the longer it went, into OT it would favor the younger and faster team, the Lightning were just spent in that OT. If not for Vasilevskiy reaching down deep and making those amazing saves, it would have been over earlier in OT.
Man what a game. When Tampa scored within 30 seconds, I was like, "Oh here we go again". But Kuemper did what he was supposed to do and kept the game close. And a beauty of a shot by Kadri. I was hoping, but not expecting, the Avs to steal one on the road and they did. Great game guys. Kadri in his first game back gets the OT winner. He did look a little rusty tonight, but that was to be expected. No goal for Mackinnon again, but I guess it didn't matter. They still won.
The deflection off his skate on the power play goal was actually attributed to him. Just like the 2nd goal of Cogliano was technically his goal. Hockey is weird, but I love it.
MacKinnon has said a few times in interviews this post season that he doesn’t care if he’s putting pucks in the net as long as the team is winning. Avs pp has been deadly and it’s basically him and Makar working the puck so he’s factored into a the majority of that success even if he isn’t the one putting in all the goals.
Loved how Bo was the furthest player from the net skating and pointing with the stick to puck in the net like "it's there guys!" while everyone else was still looking down at Vasi wondering which bodypart it slid up into 🤣
My boys getting it done. This was the first game this playoffs where I woke up nervous to see the result. Back to Denver for what will be an electric atmosphere
Lol Yeah. Your boys. Clearly, you aren't a fan if you "woke up to see the result" as opposed to staying up and watching the game. And don't tell me you had to sleep/live in a different time zone/live in a different country. No excuse, bandwagon jumper.
What a game Avs are just incredibly fast... Tampa played a hell of a game to just came up short.... both these teams deserve props hard fought battle right to the end....
Really impressed with Kuemper's response to game 3's loss, especially afrer that first goal which easily could have rattled someone for the rest of the game.
In the overtime period, Colorado was clearly dominant. Even improved Vasilevskiy could not prevent Colorado victory. Without taking anything from Tampa, Colorado is a better, deeper team.
Vasey was never improved. There is definitely a direct correlation between his save % and the number of shots the team blocked. The team knows they have to block everything or he's going to let in 5 goals. And no, I am not a hater - that is literally what the data says.
That really looked like too many men on the ice on that last goal. Avs have been getting all the bounces so far in the series, so why not some of the calls.
Out of all my years of watching hockey I’ve NEVER seen a goal like that where it gets stuck inside on top of the net I literally thought Vladdy saved it. Get it done Friday avs you deserve it.
I am cheering for Tampa bay.. I figured if they win and tie up with the complete momentum switch, they might actually win 3-4 in a row. But avs won 2 in overtime now... tamps is crazy tired and much slower in general than the avs going down 1-3 to colorado while playing there is always more exhausting, its going to be really really damn hard to win, especially 3 in a row Avs has this sadly.. hope tampa proves me wrong Either way, the fans are the real winners in this. It's been a great series! The bolts will go on as legends no matter what! 2 great teams, both deserves to win in their own ways
@@Wayf4rer I've seen many teams come back from a 3-1 series lead.... if I'm Jon Cooper I'm telling the guys that 2 out of 3 wins were in OT. But I've been watching every Stanley Cup finals since 1978.... and I cam tell TB are really hurting physically right now. Colorado look faster, stronger. TB has one chance and thats Vasileski. So it's not impossible but I give them a 10-1 chance of pulling it out.
Colorado's coach and the Avs didn't complain when Kuemper got his hat knocked off and the bolts scored. They used it as motivation and buckled down, patient, smart hockey, and improved as the game went on to completely dominate in O.T. Cooper's whining on the supposed missed offside on the Kadri winner, is not going to help motivate the bolts.
And that officially ends the possibility of a 3peat. Tampa fought hard, had injuries, as did the Avs, but the Avs are a force of nature too powerful to corral. Sure was weird with the puck going missing for a second or two. Reminiscent of Bieksa's stanchion goal against the Sharks in 2011 that put the Canucks into the Finals in 2011. Congrats to the Avs! You guys are quite deserving of the Championship. Enjoy it!
Hockey players are nuts. Kadri broke his thumb 2 weeks ago, gets surgery, comes back and scores the OT winner in the Stanley Cup Final. I guarantee if an MLB or NBA player gets this same injury they're done for months.
I was a Darcy doubter at the beginning of the season and he's proving us doubters wrong.. Great game.. One more for Avs win it at home.. If Darcy wins it for us in game 5.. he can just make an excuse for game 3 as a rest game so they can win at home..
@@anordman9659 not a chance, well buffalo actually improved coming on to the end of season after they picked up Tuch and Krebs so he might not be terrible on that team, but Philly it would be horrendous
I think the Tampa Bay stadium crew needs to check if the ice was accidentally put in on a slope. For all four periods, the team that held the left goal badly outshot the team in the right goal.
yeah, knew we weren’t gonna win this. We played hard but I knew the avs would win. Man, we looked exhausted in ot. Vasy kept us in it as best he could bet when you give Colorado that much possession time, they’re eventually gonna score. gg Colorado. Good luck Friday.
1) Kadri isn't exactly young anymore. 2) they didn't trade him because they were giving up on him. They traded him because of the cap, and because he always got himself suspended in the playoffs while in Toronto.
@@James-nv1wf very true. I think Colorado has fostered him very well. He might very well be gone after this but I firmly believe no other franchise will treat him better or stick with him like Sakic and bednar have done
Somehow the old Colorado and Red Wing rivalry is still going. Yzerman's team vs Sakic's. Both guys had huge impacts as captains, and both of these teams have their fingerprints all over them. I know Yzerman is no longer with the Bolts, but he put the big pieces of this championship team in place
