Here’s a look at the various logos / trademarks used thru the years by Stanley. First it was the Stanley Rule & Level Company, which later merged with Stanley Works to become one large company. Let me know what you think! Which logo is your favorite?

Nice to see a Family Rated show on a subject that otherwise might seem dull to the uninitiated observer! That youngin’ has a promising future for sure! 😊

You have forced me to buy books. I hate books!! Except the ones you recommend in your videos. I have gained years of experience in days. Everyone should own at least one of them. Thanks MJ

Great work. I just bought the Roger Smith blue book. Nothing better than seeing the logos on the plane.

I have a spokeshave with a J logo that I bought on eBay with a small lot of saws and “Handyman” items. I love it. Hard as a coffin nail.

I haven’t seen much information available regarding the length of blades. I wish there was more out there so we had something to refer to when curious as to how close to full length a blade is. I’ve seen some up to about 7-3/8” but if anyone has info on factory lengths that would great to have, thanks!

V logo all the way!

What's the best as far as sharpening and using? The logos are cool, I also like the V logo. I have 3 type 11s, 2 have the V logo 1 has the prior iron. My #3 V logo had the original bevel on it, was never used. I use though, it planes amazingly, it smooths so well. I set it and go, its so reliable.

Some people swear by the SW era but I haven’t personally noticed a huge difference between the different eras. If someone is enough of a power user that they’re wanting to maximize the quality & performance of their irons, then a Hock iron may be in order. Or a Veritas. Then you get into the discussion of O2 vs. A2 steel…

At the four minute point, is there a correlation between the logo type font size and the width of the iron/chip breaker? My thinking is narrower iron/breaker, smaller type font...

That hasn’t been my experience with them. I think Stanley used various sizes of stamps, maybe over the course of months or even years as there’s variance even within the X and Y logos - on the same size irons, which were only used for a short period of time

Could you do a full Stanley Block Plane breakdown, blade and bases, what years?
@justplanefun

Block planes are on the list for sure. I won’t be able to cover them all cause that would be a 5 hour video. But I can try to cover some highlights

Hi side note if I may, I have a type 9 no.5, I purchased it some time ago, two thing that stand out is the tote has the hour glass brass knob and solid brass on knob, and a V logo on the blade. It has much pitting on blade but clean, no rust, blade is well worn. which means it was most likely a trades mans tool . just a comment. cheers from Tasmania.

My iron says Stanley with the words two tone under it STANLEY TWO-TONE it's my first and only bench plane I think it's a franken-plane but not 100% sure
@justplanefun
@justplanefun 2 года назад
Stanley made a line of planes called “two tone”. They were “department store” level quality on par with a Wards Master or a newer era Defiance. They came in at least two color schemes - maroon and yellow or a kind of pale white and some other color (I can’t remember off the top of my head). You’ve either got a Bench plane with a Two-tone iron or your whole plane could be a two-tone. If you’re on FB, Reddit, or Instagram, you can shoot me some pics and I’ll help you figure out what you’ve got.

If you want to get rid of those nasty, worn out irons, I'll take them off your hands. 😊
