I can't believe they left out his best quote from the books, "I was trying to win the throne to save the kingdom when I should've been trying to save the kingdom to win the throne."
@@TheRubberMatch and sacrificing your men because they don't believe in your god resulting in them losing faith in you. Sacrificing your daughter, which leads to half your force fucking off but still being an idiot and proceed to go into battle. The only victory you have ever had on the battle field in the show is when you cleaned up for the Nights Watch. Utilising blood magic, and ignoring actual battle tactics.
"Few of the birds that Maester Aemon had sent off had returned as yet" " One reached Stannis, though". "One found Dragonstone," "and A KING WHO STILL CARED"
From Stannis' opening scene (his very first scene in season 2) we learn EXACTLY what kind of man he is. He is editing a letter (with Davos, Mathos, and the others) and making sure to put "Kingslayer" next to Jaime Lannister's name, but also SER in front of it because (call him what he is, the man is still a knight). THAT is who STannis Baratheon was.
@@Opachki69420 he was proclaimed king in the north and if I remember clearly they did try to cooperate however dumb tully scared tywin off from a windmill
@Opachki Robb was originally acknowledging that Stannis should be the king, but the Northern Lords didn’t want to fight for the South and had all called upon Robb to break off from The Seven Kingdoms and become an independent king for them. Stannis knew that he was legally the rightful heir to all _seven_ of the kingdoms, and not just _six_ of them. So he saw what Robb was doing as technically being a traitorous action towards his inheritance by taking away one of his kingdoms. I believe if Stannis could have simply allowed Robb to style himself as a “King,” but still swear fealty to Stannis on The Iron Throne (which is more like an Imperial title above kings), it could have possibly worked out. I think neither of them would have been very happy with such an outcome, but if they could have agreed to it, their combined forces would have been unbeatable.
He did, because Eddard also supported Stannis. But at least in the show Stannis wanted Robb to change his religion and give up the title „King in the North”. Robb had to decline this offer
If only they showed in show how Stannis felt about the shadow killing renly. How said he felt his hands bloody but when he woke up they were not. How he twisted and turned that night,he knew the price and paid it so.
NO - Renly deliberately ordered his men to "spare(Stannis's ) body" ,(hint - kill him first), Renly was a Traitor & paid the price.brother or not, Stannis supported Robert, and protected Renly during the rebellion ("but there are older laws, the younger brother bows before the elder"), Renly OWES his very life to Stannis, but he betrayed him and planned his death
Renly.was a traitor..he brought his.death on by himself with his treason..but I did.love him davos..I know tht now..I will go to my grave thinking of renlys peach..only he could vex me.so with a.piece of fruit..did this.peach have some.hidden meaning
And also then when he kicks the living piss out of the two Bolton bitch soldiers who tried to take advantage of his injuries, by jamming a rail/spike into their throats... Thought they could take down the Stag King so easily... #KingStannis4LIFE
Tarth is loyal to the Baratheons of storms end.. Stannis holds storms end and is Renly's older brother making it absolutely idiotic that Brienne would claim Renly as the rightful king. Also, Stannis has a Targaryn grandmother and by Targaryn succession rules any male comes before the females, making him more legitimate than D&D's precious Daenarys through conquest (Robert) AND blood (Targaryn). My favourite part of ASOIAF is when the wall is under siege and a nights watchman constantly insists Robert is coming to save them, when Stannis arrives it's such a triumphant victory as he's saved the realm. Yet the show have to take a masterpiece and dumb it down with good and bad, making Jon, Tyrion and Dany the only characters worth anything, ignoring their flaws and giving them plot armour and Drogon ex machina. Stannis is the most competent, complex and gifted character yet he had to have 75% of his story cut out and be used and abused for shock tactics because the showrunners are idiotic
Stannis and his brothers were half Targaryen in the show (Jaehaerys II was removed to make Aemon's age not quite so advanced and easier for viewers to understand. Rhaelle was moved down a generation to become Aerys' and Rhaella's sister, she married Steffon). It's going to annoy me if they go on about Jon being special because he's half Targ, while Stannis gets forgotten about again.
He never held storms end that was granted to Renly by Robert after the mad king was disposed, which Stannis was extremely salty about as he held the garrison during the war, he was awarded dragonstone instead.
Alex, but Renly died without a son and his elder brother inherited his lands. All his bannermen joined Stannis immediately and bent the knee to Stannis, including house Tarth.
You've misunderstood how succession works. The male line does take precedence over the female but that puts Dany before any of the Baratheons because she is of the male line.
You're wrong on succession. The Dance of Dragons shows that it is Male preference primogeniture succession, which means a daughter is eligible if there are no sons or heirs of those sons (including daughters). So from the Mad King the line of succession would still go from the start of the books: *Aegon > *Jon > Viserys > Daenerys > Robert > Stannis > Renly > Aemon
The way they killed Stannis is disgraceful. He became a completely unrecognizable character. They reduced him to less than meaningless now. What was the point of his character in the show? He has a larger purpose. Even if he dies in the books, he united the wildlings and the Northmen while Jon Snow sat at Castle Black and did nothing. Even if he dies and Jon is named KITN like he is in the show, Stannis made that possible. In the show? He was reduced to being a waste of screen time. Shame. One of the best fictional characters ever, murdered by the writing staff. Stephen Dillane did a wonderful job despite of that.
Wyman Manderly laughed, but half a dozen of his knights were on their feet at once. It fell to Roger Ryswell and Barbrey Dustin to calm them with quiet words. Roose Bolton said nothing at all. But Theon Greyjoy saw a look in his pale eyes that he had never seen before - an uneasiness, even a hint of fear. Then he heard the horn. A long low moan, it seemed to hang above the battlements, lingering in the black air, soaking deep into the bones of every man who heard it. All along the castle walls, sentries turned toward the sound, their hands tightening around the shafts of their spears. In the ruined halls & keeps of Winterfell, lords hushed other lords, horses nickered, & sleepers stirred in their dark corners. No sooner had the sound of the warhorn died away than a drum began to beat: BOOM doom BOOM doom BOOM doom. And a name passed from the lips of each man to the next, written in small white puffs of breath. Stannis, they whispered, Stannis is here, Stannis is come, Stannis, Stannis, Stannis."
+Vicky Illingworth Wasnt it from the small force of Northmen loyal to Stannis stationed outside of Winterfell? The ones that dig the pits that kill one of the Freys and find Theon and Jeyne Poole escaping Winterfell?
Actually I became a fan of Stannis cause of the Blackwater Bay battle. But the books made him into one of my favorite all-time book characters along with Thrawn and James Bond (not the movie ones except for Dalton and Craig).
this- "The siege had left him gaunt, but not weak, Never Weak.", . "He doled out the food to his wife and each of his men BEFORE he ate himself, a portion no larger than any other,"
He became one of my favorites during the battle of Blackwater, but after hearing what happens to him by the end of S5, I decided to start reading the books.
I was always a Stannis fan but when I saw him be the first man to land at the blackwater, that proved in my eyes he was without a shadow of a doubt, The Mannis and all those who do not bend the knee will be destroyed. Long Live Stannis Baratheon, First of his name, King of the Andal's and the first men, Lord of the Seven Kingdom's, and Protector of the Realm AKA Your Grace.
Stannis drawing his sword at Winterfell, knowing he faces certain death, was fuckin incredible. "We march to victory, or we march to defeat, but we go forward...only forward."
Me too. Book Sandor Clegane is supposed to be at peace, but I really, really hope that Show Hound straight up kills Show Brienne. She is such a poor imitation of the book character that I love.
The most dedicated character in the show by far. He doesn't care what it takes, he's going to do it if there's a way to do it. What an amazing character. "We march to victory or we march to defeat. But we go forward, only forward."
+Gary Moore sad hear that Stephen didn't like game of thrones very much and wanted to move on, although for what he was given he gave his character the greatest of respect and was still the greatest actor in the show, and was happy he was allowed to take part.
I hope that he reads the book and realizes what he missed out on. He played far more than a gloomy king in a stormy castle with a witch whispering in his ear
This video makes me both happy and sad, happy remembering what a great character Stannis was. However it makes me sad how shitty the show is becoming without him and how much of my enjoyment came out of his presence in it.
I will lead the army of the living against the horde of the dead. The night king brings the storm but I bring the fury! Mankind does not end today, not while I still fight. I will bring light where there is darkness, I will unite the seven kingdoms to fight one. We will be victorious, we will live. And by God I will do my duty and protect the realm.
"I defetead you uncle Victarion and his Iron Fleet, the first time you father crowned himself.I held Storm's End againts the power Reach for a year and took Dragonstone from the Targaryen. I smashed Mance Ryder at the Wall thought, he had twenty times my numbers. Tell me, turncloack what battles has Bastard of Bolton ever won that i should fear him". Stannis to Theon in the books.
As Leanna Mormont declared 'There is no King but the King in the north whose name is Stark' after the death of Robb Stark, I declare that as of season seven episode four: Stannis Baratheon is the one true King of Westeros.
*"* _And through the smoke another wedge of armored riders came, on barded horses. Floating above them were the largest banners yet, royal standards as big as sheets; a yellow one with long pointed tongues that showed a flaming heart, and another like a sheet of beaten gold, with a black stag prancing and rippling in the wind. Robert, Jon thought for one mad moment, remembering poor Owen, but when the trumpets blew again and the knights charged, the name they cried was "Stannis! Stannis! STANNIS!_ *"* Still gives me chills every time.
Obi-Wan Kenobi I have not seen the episode yet, but I heard Davos did not have a reaction. Well, Davos has been very much like a puppet, what's up with that? :/ Why won't the death of Stannis and Shireen afffect him?
I think Brienne is lying to the others, and herself. She didn't execute Stannis, but left him for dead. No way in hell a man as wounded as him will survive in enemy territory, during winter, right? But the thing is, he's not just a man, he is Stannis the motherfucking Mannis. My theory atleast
God, Stannis was the baddest dude ever. He was the only one with balls to storm King's Landing and nearly made it with puny numbers. He didn't give a shit, he was the rightful heir and that's that. No nonsense, that throne was his. Then, to be misled by a sorceress and driven to madness by visions of his victory, only led to his demise. To sacrifice his daughter was enough to drive half his force away, the rest utterly depressed with no morale, up against the worst kind of torturous and psychotic house in Westeros, and fighting his ass to the bitter end and surrendering to another's simple duty, because that was the best way to die, honorably. He was a just man, through and through. He was the one true king, and he got buried for it.
Dany needs her dragon or she is nothing and would remain rhe Beggar Queen. King Stannis, by right of succession, helped his brother win the throne by right of conquest, all while Dany begged on the streets. He stormed King's Landing while the she was being abandoned by the horde. He fought beyond the wall while she leveraged dragons for her own nonsense. Long story short: she must bend the knee. STANNIS LIVES
Why do you need to compare Daenerys to Stannis really? Why do you want to provoke? Why is the aim of saying this? Can’t you just talk about how great Stannis is rather than disrespecting the character of Daenerys? Why so much hate? WHY???
@@fireandblood8142 Provoke? Daenerys is a power hungry mass murderer. We've seen her passion for violence since the beginning! She's either a disgusting inhuman monster, or is absolutely insane! Stannis, on the other hand, was a man driven by duty. It was his weakness as well in the end, but he had far better intentions than the white haired bitch of Old Valyria...
you know he is a commander and a king worth following when he does the things he asks of his men himself, and first amongst others. Imagine Jeoffrey leading a landing party like that.... Yeah, exactly. He is Stannis the Mannis, the only True King.
12:20 just want to give a shout out to Stannis' captain. Loyal until the end, died heroically fighting alongside the king and can be seen walking forward to defend him to the death.
"This is the right time and I will risk everything, because if I don't we've lost we march to victory or we march to defeat but we go forward... only forward." best line ever!
115k views, 2.2k likes, and only 19 who go against the one true king of Westeros. If that is not proof of Stannis being the Mannis I don't know what is.
3:16 THE MOST HEARTBREAKING SCENE OF TRAGEDY OF A FALLEN WARRIOR SINCD THE EPIC SCENE OF THE LAST STAND OF LEONIDAS IN 300-The Death of Hector in Troy and the death of Katsumoto in the Last Samurai.
i love how Briene, in the series, executes him in the name of Renly rightful king...by what right exactly? if Joefrey and his bros truly were Baratheons they'd be rightful kings, and if not Robert's Bastard is rightful king and then come Stannis the 2nd oldest, then his son, and only after all of that Renly would be rightful king, by what law is Renly the rightful king? Just because he is popular in the storm lands? not in the north nor in the west or even dorne just in his garden.
Vidéo très bien réalisée avec un bon accompagnement, très bon travail ! Mon seul regret dans GoT est l'histoire autour de stannis durant la saison 5 qui s'éloigne tellement du roi qu'il était auparavent... Stannis me manque !
To paraphrase an old Dutch comic book: "If only he had been my friend. He was an honest man, a great man. But he would have been so much greater if only he had known how to compromise. It does a man no dishonor to yield occasionally." The same characteristics that could have made Stannis a good king, also put him on a path where his choices were reduced until defeat became inevitable. Davos was right when he said that Stannis defeated himself.
