My favorite things about the 400i are it's speed (light-fighter top speeds, to outrun any serious challenger), it's durability (a S3 shield), long range (you can use fast QT drives without major headache) and an overall realistic, efficient design. It's just a beautiful overall package.
@@MurderousNoise there actually are missions that are about smuggling goods from a to b, scanning is also implemented, you get stopped by the space police and scanned for what you have in your cargo hold and if you are wanted.
@@LittleLightUwU i ment real scanning and exploration and smuggling where you can make real money by transporting some dangerous things or artifacts you found by exploration not little complicated delivery run. For now delivery and scanning by police looks wery simplified and not interesting, haven't even try it. I hope they'll bring those next year, I'm tired to wait exploration gameplay that they showed years ago but failed to deliver.
@@MurderousNoise it's not pointless at all. I am using it as a transport to the FPS missions. Thanks to the S3 shield it can stand plenty of damage before I found a close spot to land behind a rock. It's also very comfy to travel long distances and fast. So yes it's a good taxi but a kind of strong taxi ✌️🏼🙋🏽♂️
Nailed it. Many people don't appreciate the intentional trade-offs, but I love the 400i's defensive nature and ability to escape most sticky situations like a silver bullet.
The 400i is one of those ships that has several competitors that are generally a better ship. But the 4008 is usually the one you fly. I like the sleek styling and interior layout. It is the ship I go to for running around Stanton, or when I just want those sleek playboy spaceship shots.
Nice, you reframed this ship for me by explaining it’s defensive stance. Big shields and fast in a straight line with 2 x Aft facing Turrets makes sense now. I guess coupled with putting most ships behind you and keeping them there, you have the option of boosting aft facing shields then too, to prolong the get away or deter all but the most determined of attackers.
You may not have noticed but under the beds are drawers that will pull out for more storage. The Captain's desk also has some storage. Thanks for the Vid. ♥
This will probably be my goto ship for any kind of tomb raiding gameplay. Enough room for rare artifacts, great range and exploring capabilities, scanning and great atmospheric flight. Enough shields and rear firepower with speed to escape
You can bring a Nox, make sure the backside of the Nox lines up with the pole and power off. Nice vid good to see you are back, Meridian is my paint sceme.
Hey, nice 2 see you again! Yes, the 400i was a surprisingly comfy ship. I didn't like its look at first at all but it grew on me. Really nice daily driver...
That's the first time I've seen the crew space and holo table. I've only ever been on the 400i once but didn't take the chance to have a look around it.
@@urbnctrl I believe it’s for scanning an area (large like a planet or huge chunk of space) and mapping said scan into a holographic 3D representation that can be turned and any location can be zoomed in to a limited amount. Perfectly suited for ether command, or exploration.
@@urbnctrl based on old CIG statements and articles, they are suppose to be used for scanning and command and control(kinda like an RTS game but instead you are just ordering around other people while not being on the front lines.)
its supposed to be used as a command and control center for a fleet of ships. there's also supposed to be other levels of functionality that are going to be associated with it (mapping & scanning functions, possibly more).
I got one. I am mostly a miner but wanted something for my non-mining tasks. I loved my cutty when I had one but the cutty wasn't going to cut it. Connie's are alright but leave me feeling meh and I had a corsair for a while but I really have no desire for combat so all the dakka somewhat wasted. Then the 400i came along and it was either that or the msr and I had already tried that out (love it but I has a c2) so 400i it was. Great for going places should be cool once the holotable is functional. I think that's going to be part of the cherry on top of the cake for this vessel. I mean it is extremely undergunned to what it is compared to and the range, crossection and maneuverability is not enough of a compensation for that. My guess is that the scanning is going to be way more powerful in the 400i and the table will have something to do with that.
I tried the 400i for a week back when it first launched on the PTU server and did not really impress me, but it was a cool runabout. After a while I did miss the ship and now have one in my hangar. I fell in love with her!
The 400i suffers at the moment due to Exploration not being in the game. Due to that missing feature, a full comparison with other ships cannot be made as we cannot judge the quality of the sensor suites on each of the mentioned ships. That being said, I do not think that the 400i is a real competitor to either the MISC DUR, the Drake Corsair or the RSI Constellation Aquila. The reason is that each of these ships are of different size/mass, features and crew configurations as well as each having a secondary purpose in their creation. Think of it more as the branches of a tree with the 315p and the Anvil Terrapin as the twin forks from the Exploration base. After the 315p comes the 400i and 600i, from the Terrapin you have the MISC DUR, the Connie Aquila and then the Anvil Carrack with the MISC Endeavor at the top. The Drake Corsair is an evil looking lightning blasted limb hanging off to the side, not really a part of the vibrant Exploration tech tree but a dark mirror of the Origin side of things. The MISC DUR suffers from a very cramped crew space that can handle 4 people, is limited to just a bike in the cargo bay, and has a fuel refinery that has more questions than answers from CIG as to its usefulness. I melted mine due the unanswered questions and my ownership of the 400i making it redundant. The 400i is a luxury yacht masquerading as an exploration vessel. It is one size up from the DUR but trades more comfortable crew space with one fewer crew and adds a buggy to the bike. (I own the X-1 Pathfinder and Cyclone RN to carry onboard my 400i, that is one seat for each of the 3 crew.) The Drake Corsair is a heavily armed pirate raider masquerading as an exploration ship. (Yes, it can carry a rover but would never do so, at least I don't plan on doing so with mine.) Again, the Corsair has a 4 man crew, each with their own berths but luxury is lacking on Drake ships so the additional crew personal space just means room for more loot and a safer place to store it. The Connie Aquila has the issue the DUR has, a poor crew space that is all shared. While it can carry the most vehicles, as you mentioned, it is slow, unwieldy, has a miserable bridge view and I personally loath it. I'd take the 600i Exploration over the Connie as the 400i is not the equal to the larger RSI product. I did have the 600i Explorer but melted it to help buy my Carrack. Without Exploration, the 400i has no place in anyone's lineup as the Mercury Star Runner has it matched or beat in every way, even in "Luxury" crew features. With Exploration, the 400i is a nice alternative to the other ships for a small team. Mine comes out now and then when I am going exploring solo as it has a smaller footprint than my MSR and two entry methods. Otherwise, my favorite daily driver is the MSR.
I was hoping for your thoughts on the cooled component rooms and how they might be useful, or the fact that it has 3 power plants, 3 coolers and 3 radars. The extra cooling and power in particular raises some questions about the additional redundancy or protection against environmental effects, EMP or distortion weapons. The 400i can run just fine on a single power plant and cooler allowing you to disconnect the others until you need them which might give you some backup on long distance exploration ventures, or if you get hit with an EMP or distortion weapon and need to get the hell outa dodge. Good take on the smuggling gig though - I think that was alluded to in the CitCon Pyro video - also notice how in that video the 400i was really scorched up - that might have been a clue for Pyro environmental effects and solar flares and giving a heads-up about the usefulness of the 400is redundancy and cooled component rooms, etc.
Think of this 3 power plants, turn off 2 grade A military and leave on 1 stealth, do the same with the coolers. Run silent until noticed turn on all and hit the boosters ... just like a Cigar boat on a Mexico to Miami run ...
I love my 400i. This is a ship I tried very hard not to like as it's not what I expected. It definitely has it's shortcomings but they are minor when judging the overall ship and what it's designed for. One thing I really like is that you can activate the rear lift while sitting in a Cyclone! You can just get in the Cyclone, activate the lift and drive off onto a surface. Makes loading and unloading a Cyclone a bit easier overall with this ship compared to others. Overall a great ship and a solid daily driver.
The 400i is one of my few concept ships. I have plenty of ships at this point, but it's just my Freelancer (now MIS) and 325a from the Kickstarter, the 400i, and the Scorpius. And the Spirit E1. Anyway. Flying the 400i HOSAS is a lot of fun. It's my daily driver when solo or with 1 friend. Throw an STV in if we want to hit bunkers fast, or a Cyclone in if we plan to loot. Between it's speed, and it's handling, it's great for so many mission types in so many environments. This past week I've just been running around doing box missions with it. The X1 bay is great for the delivery boxes. And it's gotten me all of the Day of the Vara masks in two days. I do have a Mercury too. I usually use that if I'm with 2+ friends and we want to hit bunkers in an Ursa. Or go ROC mining. The Mercury with both turrets is a lot of fun. I've heard it's even more of a beast if the pilot has Tobii.
The first time I saw the 400i I immediately thought: Luxury RV. I still stand by my first impression. And I mean that in a good way. Plus it looks absolutely rad.
Pretty good summary of this ships current capabilities, along with fair comparisons to its peers. It's not really comparable to a crusader MSR because that is a freight ship (blockade runner), with bad fuel economy. The 400i is an endurance explorer and LotW rightfully sees that. It's only peers really are the misc FREELANCER dur, the CONSTELLATION aquilla, and the drake CORSAIR. If your looking at raw firepower or hauling capability there are better ships out there. Since exploration is not implemented, this ship will not be fully capable, yet even still remains a flyable ship in the current state of the game. Some people try to compare this ship to the drake CUTLASS... but they are only looking at the firepower and cargo.
Of all the Origin ships, _this_ is the one that caught my eye. Best for bunkers? Solo, sure, more than two, no. Best for cargo? No. Best of its size when fighting? No. Size, prestige, and functionality of of the 600 and 890? Nope. But it looks awesome and has a little bit of all those wrapped into one. Spectacular ship for having a casual SC day with a couple friends. I see it as being even more so once an exploration function becomes more practical.
I switch off between a Connie and a 400i as my daily driver. IMHO, the 400i's agility and beefier turrets give it a higher skill ceiling for multi-crew gameplay than the Connie.
400i is my NR 1 ship to do anything. It's the fastest in atm, you get around quick, and you exit/enter the ship like 400% faster than any other ship. My Carrack will only be used for extreme long gameplay/exploration. You need to try and make use of the 2 turrets behind... it's absurd how good they defend while escaping danger. Anyway great content! well done!
As a generally solo player who also tends to steer away from the combat side of things, at least pvp anyway. I think the 400i is a strong contender to go alongside my Pisces and Cutlass Black. I like my ships to be soloable, but if I was to bring some buddies or pick someone up, they still have stuff to do - Cutty makes a great medium duo ship. Where the Pisces is my general little solo runner, I feel like 400i falls into a similar tier as the Cutty in terms of solo/duo versatility but leans towards some diferent plastyles. Also the design is sexy as fuck, would be a nice ship to pull up for new players to come visit. I'm very tempted!
Finally found someone like me. :) I don't have friends that care about Star Citizen so solo playstyle was my only option and my choice of ships was therefore predetermined. I would love to play with friends but I am hoping NPC crews will suffice. And I agree what you said about the 400i, in fact I have one in my hangar now and was considering replacing the 600i with it and maybe get a small shuttle with the rest of the store credit. This video got me excited all over again.
I just wish that the community was more accepting of people who like to do anything other than spawn camping new players or unarmed players or stream sniping or harassing people. This game had a lot of potential to be a fun immersive experience, but now it's just diet call of duty in space or a broken GTA online. I hope it gets better eventually, but everyone has something to prove.
Curiously I use my 400i and 315p almost exclusively as contraband runners. I melted my 400i and then ended up buying it back a few months later. It's just too useful a ship not to have.
The ship needs like an extra 2 inches in all dimensions. Fit bikes better in the bay. Even a roc easier since you can't really drive them into the larger cargo bay. The x1 needs to come included. Size 5 in the front. Or give it the other 2 guns it used to have in concept for all size 3 gimbal. Like do 2 versions. 1 combat n 1 luxury. Since they even wanted to add a hot tub at the top. Maybe even remove the bike bay n have it as a reinforced ramming ship since blades are used to attack head on from the vanduul
@@benjwgarner You don't get how software programming works, do you?? And why bother telling me? You genuinely believe that's going to stop anyone from playing?
Much like the MSR this ship is undergunned for the pilots. I don't expect it to have four S5 hard points like the Connie but at least being able to have a pair of gimbled S4's would be nice. And this ship isn't really agile enough to have hard mounted S4's.
In my eyes the main competitor is the mercury They both do roughly the same with the 400i having a nav table while the mercury has better sensors and is an information runner What must be said is that the mercury requires quite some fuel but in general purpose both are very similar Hard to decide but i enjoy the mercury a bit more because of its ebony hawk/millennium falcon vibe and me liking crusader aesthetics a bit more
The one thing I have always had to rethink when looking at ships, instead of comparing the ships to all the other ships provided in Starcitizen how the ship stacks up in its own org and how would it work in a fleet based around its orgs line up. I think the 400i is a perfect addition to the 100,300,600 and the 800 series of Origin ships. I could see a few 100, 300 and 400's escorting 600's and 800s location to location. And you could make could make the argument that other ships could do it better, but does the alternative have the esthetic, if not then you might have lost your number one reason on needing a 400i. Its like the G series ground vehicles; there is no way you would want one over a Cyclon or Ursa except for that look of a origin ship.
The 400i never feels the same size as the RSI Connies but its easier to exit than the MSR for a everyday drive and the 600i feels a lot bigger, oh i like them all lol
perfect timing, I finally got enough auec together to afford one last night and have been sitting on the credits wondering if it's worth it or not. time to unpause the video and find out. 😁
I love the 400i, though I wish that there was a way to get into the bike hanger from inside the ship. The idea of swooping low and dropping off a guy on a bike is just too cool.
The 400i is a really versatile ship for the verse right now. It is extremely fast and maneuovrable for its size, with sufficient ability to handle small ground vehicles that is has a lot of flexibility too. It is reasonably armed, although not a military ship, but therefore can also handle itself, particularly with its excellent shields. Overall, it’s a beautifully designed ship and when I went back to the Connie, I found it a struggle to enjoy because the handling is to poor by comparison. As with anything, it depends what you use it for, but the 400i is the best Origin ship by some margin in my opinion.
I had it when it came out and was very disappointed as my daily driver was the 600i and Carrack. Thinking I would only enjoy big ships, I have to admit I did miss it and finally used the Pledge Buy Back option to get it back, now its my baby! :)
Had it for a couple weeks. Wasn't sure if it was right for me. Changed back to Connie. Now I know it is the right ship for me and what I do. I just gotta wait for IAE now to rebuy it lol.
From my perspective, given the shape of the 400i, once the components are refactored in the Verse, this might be a possibility stealthy long range reconnaissance / scout ship.
He is really good for someone like me who like to just flight over the system , landing , doing few bunker missions or delivery and then logout in the bed. I like it to feel really like someone in Space haha. But when the corsair will be out , ill melt it for sure, in comparaison to the corsair, the 400i sucks, but ill keep it until the corsair is out haha
The 400i is a relly nice ships. But it's not really in line with connie or corsair. More in between freelancer and conni. Wish the 400i could transport ROC and Ursa. Also it's a little undergunned. Thats ok. I can live with this. At least it's so fast and so tough so that you can avoid most enemies. And it has one of the best interieurs. What i really not like is the upper turret. So silly that it's not on top of the ship. Just imagine a retractable turret on top to boost the offensive damage. (MSR has way better turret placement)
Admittedly the 400i is very tempting although I'm leaning towards the Constellation Aquila due to the sensor arrays for exploration. The other ship that has caught my eye, which I suppose isn't really comparable, is the Terrapin due its potential as a recon vessel . I suspect it'll need some TLC to meet the advertised field endurance capability advertised on its product page.
I would like to point out, as a day one 400i owner, that it is in fact possible to load a Cyclone and some cargo. Not a lot of cargo, but I have found I can reliably load both a cyclone and 12 SCU of cargo on the elevator and it operate as normal without issue. You might get a face full of elevator pillar when you get out of the Cyclone, but its not actually close enough to be in the way at all, just gonna fill your screen for a moment till you step aside, and it doesn't hinder entrance to the vehicle either. 12 SCU is obviously not a lot of cargo, but it is certainly enough to load up with food and water for an exploration journey where having a larger vehicle in the back is more important than effectively unlimited food and water.
I have owned the 400i since release and it feels nice and looks nice but unfortunately, I also own an MSR and I am struggling to come up with a reason to keep the 400i when I can haul about 170% extra cargo in the MSR (114scu v 42scu) or carry two ROCs etc. The pilots guns are similar but the MSR can use both turrets forward as well The 400i has better shields for running away but the MSR is faster so will get out of range quicker. Then we have the Corsair (previously I typed Pioneer by accident) which will hold more cargo as well as being heavily gunned. I know you say the 400i is not for cargo or combat but without having exploration in the game and without the sensor suite working it leaves the 400i not being particularly good at anything. I am reluctant to lose it but there is a good chance that when I see the Corsair then the 400i might get melted and even if I do not then I expect the 400i will eventually end up being CCU'd or melted for something else.
The Pioneer is a Heavy Construction ship just as big as the 890J, did you mean a different ship? The 400i is not a cargo hauler or data runner, so I'm not sure why you're comparing it with the MSR.
@@Kothar- Because at the moment the only thing you can do with either of them is move cargo or vehicles and I already have an MSR that does that better. I do like the 400i which is why I said I am struggling to find a real reason to keep it rather than saying it is useless and I melted it months ago. I am still hoping that we get exploration gameplay soon and the sensor suite working so I can justify keeping it. Sorry, I said Pioneer when I meant to say Corsair. I did say Corsair later but I will fix the first mention.
Right now the MSR wins handily when it comes to industrial tasks: hauling cargo, going ROC mining. I think the 400i beats it when running missions though. It has an airlock which is easier to deal with for space walks. For ground missions, the internal layout, multiple exits, and faster ramps make it easier to get in and get out of than the MSR. Looking to the future, the MSR does data running and the 400i does exploring (mapping and scanning). We have very little info on how these works besides vibes, but I think which of those professions you are more drawn to will seal the deal. The guiding question really is do you want a solo/duo ship for industry or exploration/on foot gameplay?
Surprised there was no mention of the MSR. It seems to be in the same weight class, and has the added benefits of datarunning and Not have to hard choose between cargo and Vehicle. Keep in mind I've not got much experience in either ship.
I've really liked my 400i more than the connies but the Corsair will probably change that though, really looking forward to that at IAE. Any plans for making vids over Citcon?
It has several. Great for box missions, getting you to the 890 jump mission fast, throw a Cyclone on the cargo lift, and you can get to high tier bunker missions in no time. I used to it pull drugs out of Jumptown too. I've even managed to do HRT bounties with it too, but would not recommend anything higher.
An idea I've had for the 400i after owning would be for the devs to change the s4 mounts to s5's, so that its firepower is more balanced front vs rear, and so that it's more capable solo and doesn't require other players (though having friends would make it more defensive). I do understand and agree with it being a defensive ship, but to me it only feels capable of defending itself if you're fully crewed up and in my experience, the lack of cargo space, trouble putting (some) rovers into it, and lack of pilot DPS makes it feel outright worse than other ships, despite its looks, long range, and maneuverability. I mean, the 600i (the immediate next step up from the 400i in origin's lineup) has 3 s5's for the pilot, and the constellation has 2 s5's plus 2 s4's so to me it just feels woefully inadequate both outright and comparatively. Anyways, rant over, I'd love to hear what you all have to say!
Law of the West, can you please post the name of the song you used at the end of this video and the artist. Believe it or not, I discover some real gems while watching my favorite RU-vid video producers and this song has me, my friends and Shazam beat.
i've been looking for the Wally's Club theme (what you here in this video) and BoredGamer's outro for ages. I hope the Star Citizen soundtrack releases in a lossless format, got the pledge for it
A gorgeous ship. But it was collecting dust in my fleet so I had to burn it. The problem with a ship with a low cargo capacity, crappy fire power, and that's not good at anything in particular is that it competes with ships that are literally good at their specific roles. So why then would I need this one for? It's a white elephant for sure.
In the current state of the game, I agree with you. It definitely needs something other than aesthetics to make it stand out a bit more from it's competitors. Given the high-tech aspect of most Origin ships I *suspect* that the 400i will have either more or better blades than the other 2, and/or better sensors. Gonna be a while before we find out though. *edit: crew comfort will also be important in the future, so that alone may be a selling point, as it could allow you to go on longer outings than a Connie or Corsair.
It's the best designed space of it's class, is very fast, very tanky and has long range. It's a great daily driver if you can do what you want within it's capabilities, and when real exploration is unlocked it will really shine.
@@rhadiem I own a cutty, a vulture, a tallon and a liberator so I'm trying really hard not to keep buying the "big ones" and only buy toys from now on lol. Gotta have something to work towards
@@TheAIKnowledgeHub Do you use any mining vehicle? I'm keen on getting a 400i myself but i'm wondering if the variant that has the silver paintwork is still available. Standard colors do look good though.
@@TheAIKnowledgeHub Understand. Being a newb to SC i opted for 315P pathfinder/light freight, want to start with hand mining, then maybe upgrade to Nomad + basic Roc combo. I understand the Nomad's cargo tray is magnetised, but wondering if you can store SCU inside the cabin when a ROC is on the back-of-ship storage tray. OTHERWISE I might upgrade to MSCI Freelancer or Cutlass Black, but hate the look of both. Thoughts?
I love the 890 design and don’t like the 300 or 600 like. It’s great to have this as a smaller version of the 890 with another „yacht“ design from origin
The time will come, fighting is no longer the only thing, Star Citizen offers. But for now, you can fight good with the 400i by using hit&run instead of circling around. First you Strike with your two Size 4 and pass the enemy, the two 2xSize 3 Turrets will give him the rest if he follows you. You are faster than most other ships and your big size 3 shield takes a lot until you are far enough away to turn for another strike. If you fly solo, its a little harder and takes more time.
I got a 890 Jump as soon as it came out with the life time insurance but I am considering melting it to get some smaller ships. What music are you using? Very Depeche Mode like? I tried to use Shazam to identify it got no results.
Lol that's like complaining that you can't get a cement mixer in the back of your mercedes. How many contractors do you see driving around in the real world using luxury vehicles.
If only the turrets (or at least the one that’s being blocked off from seeing the front) were better positioned for combat. I really like the size of this ship though
When you consider this ship is built to avoid direct combat it’s speed, s3 shield, choice in missiles, and the s4 turrets that can deal with any target capable of catching up to it, it starts to really make sense.
