I remain in the mindset that CIG needs to get the backend systems and existing gameplay loops working solidly before jumping into new ships. Having new ships is nice, but not if we cannot play the game with them. Missions need to work. Servers need to stay up. "I have this shiny new ship that randomly blows up when I try to land. And when I do get to a bunker with it, the mission doesn't run. Well, the ship is pretty. I guess."
I've been saying this for the past 2 years or so. I'm happy that CIG is advancing with the server meshing and the last Citizencon really got me excited again. Still even with the latest patches, I still feel it's pretty far from being an enjoyable game. The worst part is hearing of new ships week after week while the game (tech demo/alpha) is unplayable. We got nothing to do and no reason to do things! I decided to give 3.23 a shot and I really enjoyed the new map & hud. But after 10 years and $700M, I wouldnt call that a win. Lastly, every time we hear the economy team is working on something, we get "new in-game ship prices", or "new prices for armor/weapons/ammo" or "new prices for missions/salvage". Is that all that they can come up with?
Okay, we'll pull the concept artists and 3D modellers off of concept art and modelling teams and put them in the gameplay team. That'll work out well, I'm sure. I'm absolutely sure the artists know exactly how the spawn closet backend works.
@@Vioblight The medical module must come because of the medevac version at the same time. And the cargo module. But Yeah I guess refinery might come later.
I was originally totally in love with the Galaxy, and I still am, it was love at first sight. But my love for the Polaris has grown slowly but surely & now surpasses the Galaxy a bit. And the Polaris is far more practical as a ship home. What I really wish they'd do is put the Arrastra in the RSI queue with the other ships.
Small correction: The Zeus ES has 4 shields and the CL has 3 shields, so in theory, is the ES the ship that has more shield capacity than its brother :P
Do you know: the ONLY Star Citizen military ship manufacturer without a military capital-class ship is Anvil Aerospace? I mean, Drake has a pirate carrier. RSI and Aegis are the backbone of the UEE Navy. Imagine what Anvil could cook up....
Drake also has the Kraken if I'm not being mistaken, on the other hand I heard we're supposed to be able to modify the Carrack into a more militaristic kind of vessel which would make sense (then again it's not really a cap even though it is very close to) but yeah you're right Anvil is the biggest p*ssy lol
@theMedicatedCitizen I guess. 6 years ago they were talking about it being a Capital ship, and its grown. I'd rather see them grow it again to fill the "Capital" ship role for Anvil, then give it a gold pass instead of some random Anvil Capital class concept ship. No, I own one, just have one with auec.
Not a fan of spending a shit ton of money on virtual Items but damn I am so in love with that Galaxy! I Already have a Zeus MR that I am waiting for and the Galaxy will be a fantastic multicrew companion.
Man, that was me in the start of this year, but I went into the rabbit hole and spent a LOT, now I kinda regret it. Oh well, time will tell how stupid it was to spend in those ships.
@@Tentacl you tell me.... I started in January last year and said to myself "nahhh only need the starter, can buy anything in game or wait a few months that's fine...." Then "ok maybe 1 or 2 ships just to have a better start if a wipe happens to get back on my feet quicker. Oh and maybe a skin there and a armor set here.... its fine." Now I am close to Concierge.....
@@b14ckyy Man, I'm an original backer. When they first released a playable client many years ago I upgraded my pledge from a starter ship to a Freelancer max. I actually returned in december, so I upgraded my Max a C1 with a upgrade for the Zeus CL (and the genius here MISSED the Warbond discount because I didn't know what the term means, so I spent 50 instead of USD 35 for that upgrade). I also bought a Cutter Ratler with LTI for later upgrades. Now? I have a reclaimer and upgrades to another reclaimer, the upgrade from the reclaimer to the Ironclad and 2 larger upgrades to avoid missing good CCU deals. I'm screwed because while I'm partially regretful of my spending spree I'm ALSO anxious to see what they will sell in december...
What are the 930 employees doing we still have so many T0 shit in year 12 even the MM is "tier zero" I get sq42 but your telling me 100 people havent finished a single gameplay loop yet.
@@guynamedmaggi5520 The gameplay people were mostly on Sq42, and we can see as they roll of, some major updates are happening to the PU, like the UI overhals and locations ect. Most likely the people that were working on the PU until now was the Backend engineers, and a small amount of gameplay engineers and designers to build the things for backend to test with. So hopefully as Sq42 ramps down we will see a major ramp up in features, but we need to hold CIG to that.
@@guynamedmaggi5520HR, publishing, web services, moderation, facilities management, Squadron 42, other things. Without a publisher they have their hands in a lot more of the pie.
There is one more variant of the Zeus Mk2 called the MR. It's the bounty hunting variant of the 3 with 2 remote turrets and what looks like storage for weapons, armor, and space for bounty pods that will hold targets.
@@versegen2 the concepts sure as hell show there's enough room for it at least width wise and judging by the SCU cargo capacity as well, I bet they've made it with the ursa in mind
I'm glad the ships I'm waiting for are from RSI and are prioritized but even with the ships we have in-game right now we could play 95% of everything planned for SC. So in my book only a few new ships are really needed and don't have a proper loaner. No new ship will keep my interest but new professions, star systems and constant improvements to the game world will. That's what they must focus on, if 5 million players brought them this far, make the game appeal to another 5 million to keep it going.
I worry that all they know how to do is make pretty pictures. It is rare CIG actually makes good engaging gameplay - but when it is there it is amazing due to the rest of the world they've built.
My ship is the Polaris. Can't wait to give her that first tour. 🙂 My home is the Carrack. My fighter is a F8C ... or F7C Superhornet ... or a F7A MK II. But if you really ask me, my absolute favorite for a long time since release is ... the humble C8X. That little shuttle may look like much, but it's one of the most versatile ships available. Nuff said. Size doesn't always matter if you can pack that much gameplay in one little ship.
I always felt like the Legionnaire was like the Cutlass Steel, not so great for players but an absolute terror when used by NPCs. Thanks for the video!
The new version of Xenothreat is supposed to involve boarding the enemy Idris. I imagine that would be quite a bit easier if you could run a Legionnaire up to one of the docks instead of needing to blow one of the doors off of the hanger.
Im glad they are working on updating all the ships. Yeah, I want to use a Pioneer to make sweet base, or move stuff in an Ironclad...but if you have an older ship its frustrating to see it in it's outdated version. Looking at you Valkyrie.
I have a freelancer MAX, and ive been eyeballing the Zeus, not for the stats or anything min/max about it compared to the MAX, but because of light switches and door locks. How stupid is it that I cant prevent my cabin from depressurizing because I walked up next to a door, or turn the lights out in the cab so I can concentrate on driving. And dont get me started on how EVERY ship lacks a basic am/fm radio.
@GeneElder.R27 Yup. Older ships with no button to open it, just hover over the general area and click until something move. Radio stations like in fallout would be cool or even the hangar decoration jukebox that plays files from your pc.
Sorry ST, but the Polaris is NOT the first capital ship. The 890 Jump is actually BIGGER than the Polaris, is considered a capital ship with capital components and is already in the game. And officially, the Polaris is considered a Corvette. Not a full capital ship.
@@Skuggihestur The Polaris is not a FULL capital ship. Only part of its components are "capital". And again, it's not the "first" capital ship in the game, the 890 Jump already has that honor.
Ironically, ships are the only thing Star Citizen does well. Planet tech will be next probably, once they fix floating rocks and trees, procedural generation glitches, implement adequate caves and add more realistic diverse landscapes.
Im just glad that my Ship the Zeus Mk2 is coming with THE biggest update of star citizen yet. I just hope that server meshing will work and improves the stability and performance to a level that everyone can enjoy the game.
@@JizzyNinja Thats not going to happen until they finish up the small to mid-sized RSI ships, the Galaxy and the Arastra come to mind, but definitely not before they rework the Constellation unfortunately. I for one am looking forward to the MISC refining ship, I forget what its called, and they desperately need to do a rework on the Freelancer series and the Reliants.
CIG seems to have lost sight of how some ships will even be used in the game, which is concerning. I get it, bills need to be paid, but still not even a vague release window for a game that as an initial release target 10 years ago.
Cutlass Steel has paper armour but intended as a fire support drop ship, similar to what you said about legionnaire. Purpose ships for a game loop that doesn’t exist. The Herald is another one built for a purpose that doesn’t really exist.
@@Chr1s-fm6bi The Legionnaire isn't a drop ship. It's a boarding ship. It *can* drop troops. But that's not its primary purpose, and it's wasted on that role. As for the Cutlass Steel - the players have been pretty unanimous for a while that all of the existing drop ships are too vulnerable (the Redeemer ceased to be a drop ship some time ago).
@@junior-fj8ud It’s considered a drop class, and where is the boarding gameplay loop? Where is drop ship? Bounty captures? Ships exist but gameplay doesn’t.
@@Chr1s-fm6bi There are drop ships. They range from the tiny Vanguard Hoplite to the much bigger Valkyrie, with others in between. Everyone acknowledges that they suck. The Boarding Ship gameplay loop requires hacking, which isn't ready yet, which is why they have stated that the Lego is being delayed. And we've been told that boarding *will* be a part of the new Xenothreat event. Since the Lego isn't ready yet, you'll probably be forced to blow off one of the hanger doors to get in.
I ould see CIG bumping up the Hornet MkII variants. With the Mk I versions going away, It'll be a means of keeping the Ghost, Tracker, and Super Hornet in the store while adding some relatively quick projects to flesh out future big releases. (Still hoping the Tracker will be built in the Super chassis, but Noy holding my breath on it.)
cant wait for my idris-p but i think it maybe can come out 2025 bc i think in 2025 SQ42 is gonna be released (they said they release the idris-p at the same day as SQ 42 comes out)
I would prefer to see more gold standard updates on existing ships, than new ones. I honestly believe that revisiting the existing models and updating them will bring more enjoyment to me and my group than introducing new ones. I wanna see the two starter ships and the next few "steps" in the progression path to be up to date.
Ah, concept ships, I'm looking forward to any progress being made on the Liberator ! By the way, has there been any talk about modularity coming to the Aegis Avenger series ? I own the Stalker but I languish for the day I can finally remove/swap those useless prisonners cells !
I couldve swore the talk around the firebird was a bomber and not a QED ship. I do recall hearing both but much more talk around it being a stealth bomber
iam a bit surprised that the actual ship pipeline for 2024 is so small, the sq42 team joined the pu team, I had greater hopes of integration of ships in thebl pipeline, but it seems the current ship functionality maintenance takes a lot of personal resources.
Consolidated Outland needs serious work. There is almost no ship representation there. So we don't really know what their design language is when it comes to ships of an equivalent size to the constellation for example. We have tonnes of ships from Aegis, RSI and Anvil. Some alien ships have a better lineup than outland its a real pity how they have just left them to be forgotten
RE: The five remaining ships from the CitCon tease - the same video that talked about the as yet unseen Saber variant, and where we were told that the Legionnaire would be delayed because its hacking isn't ready, also said that work is continuing on all five of the remaining teased ships from CitCon. Yes, this means that work is continuing on the Lego, presumably making sure that the model is finished so they don't have to do it later (or get tripped up by an unexpected problem with the layout). More importantly, it also means that work is continuing on the "Fat Fury", and the mystery ship (often speculated to be a premium starter), and they haven't been set aside due to the demands of a different task. Given that, I expect that both of those ships will be released at IAE.
@@Vioblight We aren't going to see the sandworm for ages, its native to Leir II (iirc, it may be Leir III), and its (obviously) not a seed species we are only just about to get Pyro, Its nice that we're getting Fauna in now imo, just don't expect the sandworm to be in any form of development unless CIG plans to stealth drop like 15 systems (which they wont). Additionally SQ4S is feature complete as of last citizen con, that means its probably a year or so out, as the polishing phase is one of the longer phases of Game Dev. Edit: I checked on the Galactipedia, the Valakkar (The sandworms) are native to Leir III, further I checked on the ARK Starmap which shows that Leir III is 7 Jumps away from Stanton (including a jump through Pyro), meaning minimum CIG would have to add 7 systems (Including Pyro) to add the Valakkar (Sandworm) Hence it makes 0 sense for them to work on it at all at the current time.
The only way these monster ships make sense is in extreme PVE campains which are few (Orison, and 9T), far between (once a month maybe). I can see these ships becoming desirable if there was some kind of PVE queue a player can be placed into, and they need to Bed Log when called, and wakes back up on a POLARIS for instance.
I wish they'd halt ship design for now and focus on the really important stuff and finish core game mechanics, AND THEN (dude wheres my car reference) work on ships and release them like car manufacturers do 🤷
They need to fix servers. I am tired of either crashing then having to reset across the universe or crashing on landing and losing thousands of dollars in cargo
Man im so hoping for Perseus its gonna be my pick gonna prob cost a lot of real $ cash prob around 1k but so hyped for it its a perfect design for my taste would love a video about perseus
it's a specialized ship, meant to fight capitals. It isn't as "generalist" as a Hammerhead. And CiG have said that the Perseus will likely be the last of the announced RSI ships (not counting the Orion) that they'll work on. Currently the work on the Polaris will flow into working on the Galaxy, and only after the Galaxy is done will they work on the Perseus. So it'll be a couple years.
I doubt we''ll ever see that ship, ever. They only wanna make crap variants of ships they have or other ships and ignore any alien ships. It's just a money grab that they hope you'll forget about thru the years or just finally melt for a ship they have now.
@@trashdoktor yeah the ship releases this past year have been especially boring. Its why i dislike 80% of the entire roster as they are based on military aircraft. Releasing variants of ships is like when devs do a remake (remaster) :/
What does it matter if the game is too unstable to play for more than a half hour? All the news and features sound great and then they release a patch that breaks servers even more
Yes, they are working on Nyx, Odin, Vega, and possibly Terra as well. There will not be 100 in the game, that was a goal set for when there would be no planetary landing.
Pyro's probably all but finished at this point. They can do the basics of a star system pretty quickly due to procedural generation. So I would imagine that there are some others (Nyx, in particular, and possibly Odin, since it's in SQ42) that are in a very similar state.
I doubt we''ll ever see that ship, ever. They only wanna make crap variants of ships they have or other ships and ignore any alien ships. It's just a money grab that they hope you'll forget about thru the years or just finally melt for a ship they have now.
All that shiny useless ships without them implementing ai blades and npc crew. Cant even get my Hammerhead crewed most times with my org that has over 1000 people 😂 With all their shit, cig is gonna kill this game in boredom.
CIG needs to step back their idea of multicrew, some of these ships have such artificially bloated crew counts that they are ridiculous. I don't think NPC crew would even be a fix looking at CIGs record with AI, theu perform badly, so badly intact that theu have to artificially inflate the performance numbers for the equipment the AI uses to even remotely be a threat to a player.
Tbh the legionera is kinda weird since it likely needs a docking ring to work and alot if ships dont have them or dont work with docking And iam kinda sus about them just doing mk2 versions instead of reworking old ships. And them just gold standard old ships in a scuffed way (since they already have our money)
Correction Needed. Zeus CL does NOT have more Shield power than the ES, as the ES has 4 Shield Units vs the MR and CL's 3. Do believe it was a mix-up in the script.
And why are they still releasing ships in the exploration category. They are just worse cargo haulers. Tons of exploration ships and they haven't even bothered touching radars in... 5-6 years now?
How will qt dampening work if you have to be in SCM mode to use it? The ship you try to dampend is trying to jump, so it will be in NAV mode.. They fast, you slow.
You can't go into NAV mode if your Quantum Drive doesn't work... or if you don't have a Quantum Drive, as every single snub pilot belatedly discovered.
i beg to differ on that first comment... sure there are many people happy with what they have but realistically they're poorly designed and over half of the ones in game already need better versions and or re-designed based on cargo alone because they were built before the cargo was normalised, i almost feel sorry for the people paying real money for ships but they're the reason CIG can pump anything out and anyone will buy it, its negatives fueled by negatives, my guess is that people simply dont know any better and just accept what they have to be "good" it can and should be better. at the end of the day, what good is a gold standard when the gold is fools gold.
A number of these do need NPC ships, or are enhanced by having NPC ships moving around the verse. Quantum Enforces need NPC bounties flying around, not teleporting, because while Player Bounties exist, you are not guaranteed a player bounty, let alone a player bounty worth your time and effort, and there are still people who chose to log off to try and let their crimestat decrease with time. You also aren't going to see many bounty players while people are unable to try and catch drug smugglers, or the crimes happen in areas that don't have satellite access.
