I’m looking forward to this one. Never played through it before despite starting it on both the PSP and emulated SNES with a translation patch. Didn’t make it more than an hour in each time. Though I’ve gotten much better about finishing games that I start. I’ll be picking this up on Switch which is suddenly finding itself buried in RPGs. I’m still working on Fire Emblem: Three Houses and have also started the demo fro Dragon Quest XI which I’ll be purchasing when it releases this month to continue playing. On top of those games I still want to pick up the Grandia collection and Final Fantasy VIII, No no Kuni, and Link’s Awakening all release this month. Even if I don’t have the time to play it when it releases I’ll likely buy it just to show support. I’ve been doing that for most RPGs to hit the Switch. Like you, I was a bit disappointed to find that the Star Ocean remake was aesthetically a port of the PSP version. I agree that it makes the game feel like it has less of its own identity. I really like the new character portraits though. Funny that you called out that one guys portrait for not matching his sprite. That’s a pet peeve of mine in games though it happens rarely. It was definitely an issue in some of the early Final Fantasy games, especially the mobile versions. I’m looking forward to seeing more from the Tokyo Game Show.
