I mastered this game, secret dungeon to the end with that dumb santa shop and items. Bowman and Ashton are the most op on the PS1 version. I remember getting this game a LONG time ago. I loved it so much, I dropped $45 on another copy after the first one disappeared from my life.

Star ocean the last hope was pretty dope too , but I agree this one was the best

i played star ocean till end of time digital version ps4 not long ago, it was cool playing that again. i do remember playing star ocean 2nd story on ps1 year's ago and i saw it in 2nd hand game shop the other day for £75 it's rare these days to find.

The psp version runs on a slightly different engine than the og ps1, making multiple hits done by the player easier, therefore enemies much easier. Beating the battle arena is soooo much easier. I didn’t get this far on my psp play through (requires much grinding) so I’m not sure how this battle would have gone compared to the original. I beat this boss in my late 20s with my save file from when I was a kid. One day I was like fuck it I’m beating this boss. I used different characters- iirc, Opera for healing& long range attack, Claude, Bowman,& Chisato for close range attacks.

Also try the remake of Star Ocean 1 for the PSP, uses the same engine, it's pretty much another Star Ocean 2 which isn't a bad thing.

Shame, I skipped the psp one, cause they are remaking it for switch and ps4, ps5 and it will be heaven leaps better than the psp.

SO2's Engish voice tracks are nothing short of legendary. There's some real hot jank in there. One of my favorites is the Celine line 'what is this monster-' that's clearly cut off at the end. Bless the game for having a dedicated menu and collection system for listening to all of the voice lines.

And there's a similar stat cap issue with 9999 being the damage cap, making multi-hit killer moves the best option by far and most of the awesome spells being meh because they hit once, it's not entirely useless as a free unblockable hit from all the way across the screen, but yeah, kinda crap. You can see in this video he's using a 3-attacker party which is pretty much standard, can even go aggro with Rena but you have to play that carefully and with more recovery items.

Instant death was so hilariously broken in this game. Even going so far as to let you win fights that are supposed to be unwinnable (such as Dias in the arena).

Gabriel Celeste I love your theme in SO3 and SO5. Tell the developers to put your theme in the upcoming remakes. Your theme ALWAYS makes it fun to fight you and go off yourself with your thunderous dragon art and your seemingly electric non wind elemental spark attacks.

Too bad this series of iselia queen doesn't have magic attack. In SO3 at least she has celestial star 🌟

Oh yeah, "Strong Blow" does suck, especially when you're trying to pinned down the enemy bosses. That's why (if I remember correctly) I deactivate that skill. I use Dias mainly for the Air Slash (his normal attack sucks). My lil brother use Opera, and he's able to beat her. Lot of faqs and guides suggested Opera.........but I love Ashton (my main char for normal battle).

Were the same, i like Ashton than Opera.

The answer to your suffering is.. "Use the bloody armor" it makes you invincible.

well, i usually prefer not using that kind of tactics. but everyone has their own preferred tactics so everything is welcomed.

I solo it with Claude all the time.

it's his final skill/killer move called "Tri-Ace" and can only be acquired at the cave of trials/the maze of tribulations.

Thats what i hate the most. They updated the looks on the players and voice actors are not that good. Especially dias, he sounds like any other japanese anti hero today. Before he sounded like a fucking badass.

I STILL had to use 4x bloody armor users at max lv against BOTH on Earth mode else I didn't even last for 10 seconds.

Depending on the universe presented, she can be a very powerful angel (Star Ocean) Or a mighty queen-goddess of the next plane (Valkyrie chronicles)

Yeah, SO2 in PS1 and PSP have different voice actor. But I like SO2 The Second Story sounds, especially Dias voice. Dias has cool voice when using killer move.

Note that those only work until a character reaches Lv. 99. Once they reach 100+, the medals will no longer take effect. Extension Cards/Experience Cards when farming EXP on COT/MOT when encountering Thieving Scum Lv. 99s or Mind Flayers are really a nice thing too.
