Considering the event for which the Star-Spangled Banner was written happened 15 years after Washington's death, I'm sure he'd be quite surprised indeed.
@@theradgegadgie6352 Of course he'd understand what a national anthem was, the U.S. had one during his time as President - 'Hail, Columbia'. My point is that the event for which the Star Spangled Banner was written would be most surprising to Washington as America's closest ally at the time of his death was Great Britian. This was cemented during his time as President by the Jay Treaty which gave Great Britian preferential trade status & greatly angered France. Especially since the U.S. had reneged on their revolutionary war loans from France which totaled millions. So if If you'd of asked him what country was attacking the U.S. during the war of 1812, he most surely would of responded with France.
@@mi4johns My misunderstanding. I thought your emphasis was on the events of the War of 1812 being after his death, not the reversals of fortune between allied and enemy nations, which to be fair, you didn't make clear.
Come to think of it, we went back to being trading partners and allies very quickly after 1814 and I will never believe that the UK ever seriously courted the Confederacy during the ACW. That arsehole Freemantle was never an official attache.
First time Her Majesty authorised a foreign anthem played outside a state visit. It's why Britain and America are so close. Proud brit. Love our American cousins
I joke with my American friends all the time over patriotism. Knock them and them me. But if push ever came to shove, Britain and America stand side by side. Squabbling siblings I think best defines our relationship
If you ever need reminding of what kind of monarch the Queen of England was. She broke a 600+ year tradition of allowing her guards to play a foreign country’s anthem outside of a state visit. The Queen stood by our side during our darkest days. Rest in peace your majesty. Sending our sincerest condolences from across the pond.
And now that Queen Elizabeth II has passed, the U.S. Capitol buildings are flying the flag at half-mast. It shows the solidarity and friendship between our countries.
The US basically bankrupt the UK during the Second World War, special relationship is often branded by the London political charlatans. Such rubbish indeed, the US corporate government has nothing but contempt for the UK & it’s people & that is a most obvious fact
Not sure about that Ethan, as I understand the fort that was been shelled by the Royal Navy, Fort Sumta in South Carolina, withstood the bombardment and when the Royal Navy withdrew as they knew they weren't getting anywhere. The USA flag was seen fluttering in the smoke and the anthem arose from that. So let's call it a tactical withdrawal. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 In 2021 we stand together. Those that signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 probably wouldn't believe what we've done together especially in the 20th century.
After 7/7 London bombings, all gov buildings were locked down. In defiance of terror, the US Marine Corp band stood outside the American embassy-despite risk of further possible attacks- and played God Save The Queen
"At the Queens request".....Wow!! That statement alone tells you all you need to know about her Majesty. A true lady of class she sets a very very high bar. Just knowing what the song is about, and STILL tells them to play it.
You don't understand. That is how Monarch's orders are couched. It is referred to as a 'request', but in actual fact it was an order as she was the Head of the Armed Forces. When you are sent to prison in the UK you are sentenced "At Her Majesty's Pleasure".
Lol I was at the airport when 9/11 happened. Our flight was cancelled as all planes were grounded. Nobody was upset there, people were so fucking angry. I remember this one man shouting angrily WHY THE FUCK IS JUST SOME THING THAT HAPPENED IN AMERICA STOPPING MY FLIGHT TO MALAGA?! I WANT REFUNDS AND COMPENSATION! Everybody was just pissed the fuck off that their travel plans were disrupted saying that bad things and terrorist attacks happen somewhere in the world all the time, it shouldn't affect us, this is just another day. It's ironic now thinking that considering there were multiple planes and it was an ongoing attack, they were wanting to get on a plane so badly which also could have been hijacked and flown into the Houses of Parliament or the Shard or something. It was an attack against everything Britain stands for, not just America. I also can't blame them really, they probably felt bad afterwards about how they acted. I was obviously upset for not getting to go on holiday to Portugal because I was a kid. And growing up seeing horrible things happening in the world on the news it doesn't really resonate, you can never something like that happening to your own place, then only 3 years later the 7/7 terrorist attacks happened in London... You realise shit gets real.
@@Yamezzzz I saw that on the easyjet programme they used to air, can't remember what it was called, I think it was come fly with me, or something like that.

Almost 21 years ago, the Queen of England was with Americans and the United States on our darkest day (9/11) and honored us by playing the National Anthem in front of Buckingham Palace. Today and for the time being, join me and many other Americans in returning the favor to England and it’s Royal Family. Long live the Queen and we stand together in honoring her legacy. As well as honoring all of the first responders and remembering all of the victims 21 years ago.
May I have permission to use your quote here in a 911 video recalling queenelizabeth? Its an educational video going to a school and your words I couldn't have said better myself.
@@marksawatzky8562 It is, I watched a video on it, I cannot remember the name of the song but it was sung by drunk English men prior to the US being formed and the anthem being created. The stars and stripes are from Washington in England too, there is a church in Washington in the UK that has the Washington families coat of arms and it's stars and stripes.
Our anthem was written during the war of 1812 when the US and the UK were fighting each other. That the Queen would respect us enough, knowing what the song was about, says all you need to know about her class, grace, and humanity. God bless her!
While the lyrics are literally about the Battle of Baltimore, the underlying message is simply that the United States will weather any hardship and survive. It's perfectly fitting for the moment.
@@austinverlinden2236 Britain is an island. The United Kingdom is the sovereign nation which rules over the various countries of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
My fellow Americans, if you wondered why we should be saddened by the queen passing, then let this be your answer. The queen led Britain into standing with us in our darkest hour.
To then be the one country who stood shoulder to shoulder with the United States when going to war in Afghanistan and then Iraq when other countries weren't sure. Didn't have to be asked twice, the USA was attacked and went to war, and the UK was right there beside it. As we have in the past, and will again. The legality and reasons behind it pale behind the commitment to join our brothers across the ocean.
I feel like the UK cares a lot more about America than America cares about the UK, no one even talked about the Queens death at my school and I had to find out on TikTok what has happened. And let's not forget how people kept making fun of Queen Elizabeth's death like tf.
@@strnglhld I'm guessing you didn't read my full comment, I was saying that nobody talked about the Queens death at my school and I hadn't watched the news that day because I was in school the whole day so when I opened TikTok that's how I found out about the Queens death, and btw I do watch the news occasionally but not all the time.
I spent 10 years in the US Army, doing tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. I worked with a lot of other militaries, and I realize I can count on one hand the number of foreign forces I would trust in combat, and would trust with my own troops' lives. The United Kingdom is #1 on that very short list. You are professionals, you are true allies, and this gesture will never be forgotten. EDIT: Thank you all for the responses. I'd forgotten about this comment a while ago. In response to the question about other militaries whose professionalism I trust with American lives, I can only speak to the ones I've worked with: South Korea, a military which trains for war constantly and with which we've been working on interoperability for decades. Australia is on the list as well, because of their experience and our close training relationship. Israel...say what you want about their policies, but their military is incredibly well trained and highly motivated. I also very much respect the militaries of Poland and our newest NATO allies, Sweden and Finland as well as the special forces of France and Italy. And I wish to reiterate that the UK is #1. Again, this is not meant to slight or neglect other militaries, this is just about who I personally have observed or worked with. Thanks again for all your responses!

And if anything happens to them over on their island I will gladly join my brethren on this side in support of the UK. I'll blare God Save the Queen and Rule Britannia until my ears are ringing.
Considering that the Star Spangled Banner was written to commemorate a US victory over the British in the War of 1812, it's indeed inspiring to see how far we've come as allies.
But You guys stole the tune that was originally a British drinking song written for the Anacreontic Society but y’all just changed the lyrics and made it your anthem lol 😂😂
As an American who is neither a Democrat or Republican, this video easily made me weep. This is one of the greatest gestures the great UK has ever done on behalf of our country, other than working together in many situations! Brothers and sisters🇬🇧🇺🇲❤
What we witnessed on this video crosses all lines, there is no politics here, it is pure respect from the Queen!!! When the Queen passed I was crying though I live in Arizona!
The UK was created in 1707. The Queen and Coldstream Guards are of Scots decent. There was no rule preventing playing another nation's national anthem outside Buckingham Palace, which only started being built in 1703. England ceased to exist in 1707, when it gave up sovereignty and its parliament. This "600 years" is a myth.
@@Mark-HaddowEngland still very much Exists. UK is a regional economic, military and political union bit like the EU, But each country maintains its identity. @@cloric1 OK dokey. But it doesn't have a parliament or any legal status on the international stage, like the U.N. or N.A.T.O., does it. No, it gave those sovereign powers up, and it doesn't inherit them when Scotland becomes independent and the Union breaks up, as pointed out in 2014 by English members of the UK parliament. 😀

To those that done know, this is the first time that another nation's national anthem has been played outside of a state visit at the changing of the guard. An act that must be approved by her Majesty the Queen.
Dave, HM The Queen is the head of our armed forces, it is to The Queen that we pledge our allegiance.
