Episode: 4x06 - Version 4x06a updated 6th April 2012
Title: "Enemy Starfleet"
Length: 0:58:05
Released: 22 April 2011
Stardate: 7232.5 (Tue December 31, 2267)
Writers: Dave Galanter and Patty Wright
Director: Ben Tolpin
Special Effects: Tobias Richter, DAVE School
English Subs: Peter Goundrill and Peter Walker
German Subs: Stephan Mittelstrass and Thilo Mann
Plot:
Attacked while exploring a new sector of space, Captain James T. Kirk and his crew find themselves thrust in the middle of a war. The USS Eagle, lost eight years before, is now in the clutches of a woman who bends starships and their captains to her will and has been reverse engineered into a fleet that is bent on domination and genocide. The Enterprise may be the only ship able to stop the Peshan homeworld from falling to Alersa and her enemy starfleet.
Guest starring BarBara Luna and Paul R. Sieber, Enemy: Starfleet was written by prolific Trek novelist Dave Galanter and award-winning fanfiction author Patty Wright. Principal photography took place in June 2008, with location filming in autumn 2009. Directed by Ben Tolpin and Vic Mignogna, the episode introduces Brandon Stacy as "Spock" and Jonathan Zungre as "Chekov".
Visual effects were provided by the D.A.V.E. School at Universal Studios in Florida, Juve Vique and Tobias Richter of Cologne, Germany. The episode has been edited by Brian Q. Kelley in Los Angeles, CA.
Veteran actress and Star Trek alumni Barbara Luna ("Marlena Moreau" of "Mirror, Mirror") joined the cast of "Enemy: Starfleet" as as a space terrorist that steals a starship and retro-engineers it to create a marauding fleet. "Luna" had this to say about her experience: "...my discovery was that your special love and devotion for Star Trek with a loyalty that lives in your hearts, which gives you a very deep connection to each other, allowing everyone in your presence to feel that joy. ...it is an experience worth treasuring forever..."
The production of the episode, written by prolific Trek novelist Dave Galanter and award winning fanfic writer Patty Wright, was hampered by acts of nature, but Senior Executive Producer James Cawley is thrilled with what was accomplished. "What I'm seeing is flawless: the best we've ever done," he said. "This is Star Trek."
Be sure to check out BarBara Luna's website for more on her time with us, and photo albums!

@startreknewvoyages You have no idea how badly I wish that Paramount would come back, watch this, and then pick this up using every single cast member, writer, producer just like the first Star Trek movies did when they insisted on all the original cast. This cast is the best I've ever seen at capturing that elusive feeling of TOS's cast. It's so good it makes me sick to realize that those morons in Hollywood were fools enough to shut this down rather than see it as the gold mine it is.

Another solid addition to the original series. One of the most impressive aspects of these episodes is the impeccable playing of Captain Kirk by James Cawley, without which the every other effort would be wasted. He brings the same intelligence, the same sly humour, the same ready decisiveness, the same integrity and rational fairness, the same intensity, without it seeming like an act, but as if it is coming naturally from himself. Bravo, Mr Cawley!

It is not a impeccable portray of Kirk. It is terrible, if you like kirk against the defiant it is fine. but it all makes little sense, love the story hate the direction. "a previously unexplored" Its just unexplored.. if they have been attacking the Eagle, they know it is too hard, so dont cry when you lose 200 people, you already knew you had no chance. These 'New Voyages' resurrect a lot of the magic of Gene Roddenberry's iconic series, and though the actors are different, they have a way of refreshing the memories that have endeared 'Star Trek' to millions of fans worldwide! @JesseP.Watson

It really is extraordinary. It's the writing for me, it's as good as any of the official series and a step up from many of the derivatives. This just proves that if the writing and story is up to scratch, everything else falls into line (not to say the rest doesn't take a lot of work, but hey). ...Boggles my mind how often huge productions seem to think they can just gloss over a poor story or badly written dialogue - but then, it makes this all the more inspiring.
@kevincrady2831
@kevincrady2831 5 лет назад
@@JesseP.Watson I agree with you on the writing, but this show is really firing on all cylinders. The exquisite detail of the sets and costumes, the space battle scenes, it's really flawless. They even captured the exact right level of cheesiness to match the original--not campy and ridiculous, yet not wrecking the show by attempting to paper it over and make it look "realistic" or "gritty" to cram original Trek into the box of current cinematic sensibilities. It really is like somebody got into Gene Roddenberry's basement and found a few cans of film containing another season of Star Trek, but with different actors.
@JesseP.Watson
@JesseP.Watson 5 лет назад
@@kevincrady2831 As you say, the mode of acting, the cinematography, composure of shots, choreography, camera angles, lighting... the whole lot is so true to the star trek original form, it's jaw dropping. ...But they didn't let all that stylistic attention to detail cloud the need for really good writing as the *foundation* for all that. ...And that's a surprisingly rare ethic. They clearly acknowledge that the basis of Star Trek is the plot, a satisfying little (science fiction) story. These guys touched something there for me... Because I'm so often shocked to see that good sense absent, in huge, multi million productions. The a script is the first thing there, the core of the project, it's the bit that costs almost nothing and improving upon it likewise - it takes one guy, a pencil and a bit of time to get right or to fix. ...And yet so often a blatantly flawed/unfinished script is allowed to go into production and all the work following on from that is so obviously doomed to failure because you NEVER see a public, kids or adults both, come out of a theatre or cinema and say: "Wow! I loved that! ...The story didn't work, the dialogue jarred... but, it looked great, what a great film!" ...It just doesn't happen, and yet it seems so many insist that it might happen for them, somehow, weirdly, impossibly - and they compromise the entire production, right at the beginning, when they could easily do something about it. Point being. This is an 'amateur' production but they have their heads screwed on far better than a lot of professionals in that sense.

Well, I'm currently rewatching ST: New Voyages (I came across the series 4 years ago)... My verdict: *the best Star Trek series ever made.* Note that I mean not only the best among fan-made - I mean best of all time. Edit: it is the Star Trek in all of its glory and spirit. Just mind-blowing.

Amazing how many old fans have not seen New Voyages. I watched the TOS from when it was first broadcast in the 60's and have been a big fan of every series but the original was always my first love. Enjoy telling people about you. Can't praise your work enough.

Excellent job. It is sad that more episodes were not produced before Paramount forced them to quit. Definitely a labor of love. Thank you for your blood, sweat and tears that went into these shows. 👍

I was unaware Paramount rather than bankrupted MGM made them quit. Be different if Paramount were making more of these but they aren't they just want to own and bury good stuff...so many such Hollywood stories and a few more I recently have read... How unkind and greedy. They wont make the production but stop anyone who does ... Just hateful.
@alucard624
@alucard624 Год назад
@@pcmdenault5391 It was CBS that shut down this show as well as Star Trek Continues due to issues with another fan project called Axanar that involves certain individuals on that project trying to make money from it. When that happened CBS's legal team cracked down and made new rules regarding fan films that said they could only be a max of 15 minutes and No professional actors could participate. Unfortunately that pretty much killed Star Trek fan films for good.

This episode, the CGI opening scene - "WOW" Beautiful work!!! saved a screenshot of that!!! I just found this site a few days ago and have watched up to this episode. For a fan made series I think they have done a good job on recreating the look & feel of the original series, I wasn't so sure about it the 1st couple of episodes, but it has gotten better with each episode. I just don't know how they can afford to produce a series of this quality since no one is getting paid!!! The CGI, Scripts, & even the Acting is getting better with each episode, yeah, some of the actors are over acting, but so did Shatner in TOS, & what the hell, they're not getting paid, so what do you want for free!!!

Y’know, other fan films might be more “exceptional”, might have a more epic story or what have you, but this? This is just a perfect, competent. Exciting story that would have absolutely worked as an original series story, much more so than any other fan film I’ve ever seen.

John Kelley really captures McCoy's spirit. A bit harsher, a bit more brash, but he's got that "feel." Cowley as Kirk is just splendid - he FEELS like another William Shatner. Having some of the other side characters in there like Pete Kirk (who clearly has The Kirk Charm, if you saw the episode before this), Xon, Prescott and the rest just makes the ship feel like "more."

Out standing work. By every measure you capture the look,and feel of the original series. The actors have captured the delivery, cadence and body language of the original performers.. This is what I have waited 40 years to see.Not another spin off (good as some of them were) but new episodes of the original show and characters that I fell in love with. Special effects, camera work, script writing are outstanding. I intend to eagerly devour every one and hope for more and more. Bravo!!

I think the allure of the original version of Star Trek was the telling of the story, the special effects were pretty hoky by today's standards, the acting wasn't great, but it took our imaginations into the future and submerged us into the story. Unfortunately, some contemporary versions dazzle you with special effects but the story line is weak. James Cawley and his friends have successfully captured the vintage appeal of TOS and refreshed it with upgraded effects and CGI, without losing the emphasis on the story line. It's a series for fans by fans, well done.

@Columbus1152 ... another allure of the original was that we had not yet walked on the moon....there was so much talk of it, of course, because it was coming in the near future...Star Trek started in 66 and the moon walk was 69....it got our imaginations going and inspired us to believe we really could at least walk on the moon LOL...it was good timing for the times

@@iamkurgan1126 I used to watch it with my dad when my mom was out. We both knew we shouldn't have been watching it but neither of us told on each other. It's hard to imagine know but Kirt banging ever green, blue or orange space princess (and Bond movies) was considered almost soft porn back then. Honest! There I stood in my footie pajamas, lusting after space chicks and pretending I was Captain Kirt (the Ladies Man of Space). I'm not saying I stopped, just saying when my love for women (of all colors) started.

@@GabrielKish Absolutely. The social standards of the day were as you said. The kicker is the scantilly clad females (tame for todays audience lol) DID NOT distract from the story. And James's other project New Voyages also has the TAS Native American charachter from the episode where they intercept Quetzacotl and for the life of me I can't remember his name and also from the TAS Mr. Arex both as series regulars in this version of the TOS.
