Man this really shows how worf can be used with comedy right. No stupid threesome nor swords are cool bits here. And i tkeeps him in character. I also like I think it was O'Brian and Kira messing with him when O'Brian tells some folks about how he delivered Molly.
i swear brannon braga was taking insane amounts of acid writing this show. every one he wrote these last few seasons was some whacked out crazy shit. frame of mind....timescape.....genesis....this. he was on fire. i love the shit he was coming up with at the time and this is a great episode so good choice. keep em comin'. your reviews are the best
Remember, said he’s been asked to go for the last six years, which is the same amount of time that he’s going captain enterprise so I would guess between the fact that he is the captain of the flagship. But I’m sure with all the stuff he’s done over the years that added to the prestige of him going.
I expected the cake to be ravani since she’s Greek 😛 The story really slams symbolism in your face and it’s probably why I rolled my eyes when I saw it.😊
I definitely didn't dig Troi's attitude to counselling in Picard S3, though running out on Jack right after going "I won't leave you" bothers me more than the Data thing. Mainly because he was always punctual in TNG, he didn't run-over his appointments. Apparently in Picard he's running-over by _multiple hours every day_ and is completely oblivious to it! That's more like Barclay, or hell probably worse than Barclay, and Troi definitely made jokes about Barclay being hard work in TNG. Either way it's still an argument to _just let Data stay dead,_ but yeah. Anyway, this is one of my favourite trashy episodes tbh. I love the guy playing Freud and calling Data "polymorphously perverse". The line about "a classic dismemberment dream - or in your case, being a mechanical man, a _dismantlement dream!"_ always gets me too.
Freud definitely is *always* about parental figures and yes, he did have some unhealthy fascination with abnormalities.. there's a reason Freud is not used as much these days in favor of other psychology models.. he helped to shape a lot of things but his approach has aged poorly, especially with other models such as Jung arguably doing a better job at actually fixing problems.
FUN FACT Freud was Austrian, not German I STARTED LEARNING GERMAN IN 2022 The German spoken in Bill & Ted was correct I think ALSO Freud was a Freudian 11/17/23 1203 (I USUALLY USE THE 24 HOUR CLOCK)
I hate when they keep calling the Enterprise the "flagship"..the writers took it to mean the best ship, or something, but it means that this is the ship in which the Admiral of a fleet has his HQ. Such a ship has a captain as well. The Enterprise is most definitely not a flagship.
Given Star Trek’s generally intelligent portrayals of intellectuals from the past, its a shame they went with this simplistic and jejune treatment of Freud.
I don’t think he felt embarrassment to talk to Troi bexause that is an emotion but I bet he feel it was inappropriate especially with his rank on the ship. I am guessing that is what you meant but finding the right wording is tough. Forgive me if I assumed incorrectt
I know, it shouldn't have taken me two weeks to finally watch this video but life said "Hey, I haven't kicked on you for a while, how about now?" Anyhow, can you imagine all the comments about eating Troi if today's social media have existed back then?
Remember when data was just another character with his own cool scifi stories, albeit silly and simplistic? What i dont want to remember is how data became the most central and important character next to picard in EVERY star trek tng movie and every season of star trek picard. I mean for fucks sake worf had some amazing character growth in ds9 and yet everyone wants to see data in modern trek stories, a character in the middle of the scale when it comes to complexity and nuance. They should just make a SEQUEL star trek series to ds9 so we can see this universe move on and evolve. Ds9 did something incredible and made world building for this universe. Just show us how the galaxy is doing after the dominion war. Characters like garak and odo are a thousand times more complex and compeling than data.
Gonna have to strongly disagree. I think Data is an extremely complex character. His level of sentience alone can be debated endlessly. Does he really want to be human, or was he programmed to want that? There's no end to questions like that when it comes to Data. It may not be a unique sci-fi concept (it's not even unique in star trek) but that doesn't mean it lacks complexity. But despite that, I have no interest in seeing Data or any other legacy characters in modern trek stories. Their time is over.
on TUESDAY OCTOBER 24th 2023 from 6:30am to 7pm I watched every episode of STAR TREK PICARD season 3 on DVD in a row I liked about 70% of it 👍👍 I don't like : RAFFI VADIC JACK CRUSHER THE BORG stuff the CHANGELING stuff the RETCONNING of STAR TREK Q showing up again THE SWEARING the SMOKING & DRUGS THE CRAPPY SETS HOW DARK EVERYTHING IS ( I watched it on my portable DVD player I brightened up the screen so I could actually see everything )
Eddie, did you ever notice the recurring motif on horror movies. Like on "Ravenous" where they're tempting the normal guy into cannibalism. Slowly over time, desensitizing him almost. That's kind od like what Krosus was doing to Data in "Descent." ??
