I had originally made the video in a hurry as I was going away on holiday and when it first released it had a ton of glitches and stuff. I had to remake and also rescore it, some scores just weren't in line with my thinking. I'm happy now and if you're watching it again I appreciate it! Mark
I'm currently playing the game on handheld mode and the 30fps framerate is NOT the issue this video might imply that it is. I've experienced no problems whatsoever playing it on handheld mode. None. No problems with the game in terms of performance either. No crashes. No pop-in. No slowdowns even during the hectic jailbreak stage where you get flooded with enemies. This is a 22 year old game, tho. So don't expect the modern day quality of life features common to current third person shooters. I beat the game back in 2002 on the GameCube and bought the game just to see if I still was able to do it again today. And we'll, the game was still very engaging and enjoyable. It's not a game that you get to just chill, tho. It's not exactly a walk in the park. The game can be challenging.
@@ladyibis580 Yeah. It's just not an issue IMO. The enemy count is not like in a game like Capcom's Dead Rising with a gazillion zombies. Where a framerate drop can be game breaking. In this game, the enemy count is low enough to not seriously affect the gameplay. And the environments are also not very detailed to have any meaningful impact on the framerate. Would've it be better if it ran at 60fps on handheld mode? I guess. But again, I'm playing on handheld mode because I noticed that the framerate was not an issue. It doesn't affect in any way my playthrough. I beat the game recently and any deaths that I suffered weren't because of the framerate getting in the way. No, it was because I got careless and didn't notice how empty my jetpack was or because I failed to take out a sniper before I entered an open area.
Thank you for a great review again, 99% games showcased here i buy for the Steam Deck, but you guys are always fast with reviews and what feels are very fair in scoring, this is a buy, thanks
I'm so happy that gyro controls mean as much to you as they do to me. I can always count on you to tell me whether a game has them or not lol. I am also disappointed that this was doesn't.
I used to play this for the GameCube at my friend's house, and I always wanted to own it, but my parents wouldn't buy it for me. I did own (and still do ) the Clone Wars game, which was mostly a vehicle campaign. I'm extremely happy that Bounty Hunter is now available for the switch. My inner child is going to love it.
This game is in my top 10 nostalgic games list. Playing it as a kid was like nothing I’d ever seen. It was actually pretty tough and could never even complete it till I was a teenager. I own the ps2 copy and it’s a prized possession. Peak star wars and the main menu music slaps.
@@trickjacko8482 I have multiple people in my household that have there own switch. so having games physically allows for anyone in my household to be able to play and enjoy games.
@@trickjacko8482multitude of reasons - The look/art style of picture gamecase - wish it was all on cartridge so no storage since its over 9 gb - physical collection is soothing for some gamers lol
@SwitchUpYt was your review copy out of date? I’ve just downloaded the game and it seems it runs much better in handheld than in your review. It looks and feels like 60fps
The legacy controls are easy to use. Idk what you’re talking about in terms of modern controls being “easier”. The modern controls are actually harder to use than the legacy controls. With the legacy controls, you can fire Jango’s pistols super quickly, but with modern controls, you aren’t able to shoot as fast. Plus with legacy controls, you have more maneuverability when in fire fights. I have found myself getting shot and taking more damage with modern controls because I can’t maneuver quickly like I could with legacy controls.
I absolutely love this game but it was never a looker even back in the day. It always was really rough around the edges, visually. I had the Game Cube version which did run better and look sharper than the PS2 and it still looked primitive to launch games a year prior like Rogue Squadron 2, Luigi's Mansion, and Wave Race: Blue Storm.
I was trying to remember why I never played this game as a kid until you mentioned the bad controls. Im glad they improve the experience. I was most excited to play as boba fett to be honest.
Watching now because um, its STAR WARS? Also i like this channel. Edit: woah switch version looks WAYYY better! It's a bit "retro" but that isn't a bad thing. Good the controls are better, too. Shame about gyro. But not surprised.
@@Loundsifybut still has a late game bug that they refuse to patch. The devs actually said to use a cheat code to get the sword that is in the glitched room.
Star Wars bounty Hunter seems pretty good on switch with the only downside that in handheld mode it’s only capped at 30 FPS which is so disappointing considering that the resolution is only 720p in handheld mode that’s really easily surprising and disappointing at the same time. consider within dark mode it’s 60 FPS at 10:80. PI wonder why aspire struggled so much with it being in handheld mode but I think you said it in the review that they struggled with the variable clock speeds of the switch GPU anyway guys great with you. I think I will wait until there’s a physical release.
I think I played it for a bit on my PS2, but I remembered not playing it again. I would get this game to give it another shot. Though without gyro to help making aiming more precise is a deal breaker, plus there are other games I have more interested in that I added to my wish list. Though I'm glad for those that still enjoy this, rather by nostalgia or playing it for the first time.
Wether the framerate is 30fps or 60fps doesn't matter to me. It might be strange, but I've never been able to tell the difference. Below 30, though, it gets bothersome...
Will have to grab this when I get the money. I bought the PS4 version years ago and forgot how bad the controls were when I did and it was awful to play.
Why use the PS2 version when the GameCube version looked better? Would have made the comparisons better, no? It's interesting that we have another game in a small list that tries for 60fps in docked mode and 30fps in handheld mode. I think more games should try this method.
Can someone explain to me why any game runs worse handheld than docked? I didn't think there was any processing power in the dock. Am I wrong? I just thought it was a way of connecting it to your TV. I would think every game should run, or at least look, better handheld since it is for a smaller screen.
If I recall correctly, it's more of a heating thing, the dock might have a fan inside. Possibly also power supply, just like how laptops can use more power on cable compared to battery only Edit: Remembered it wrong, no fan in the dock so it must be power/battery life-related
@@gergogyalus7707 that makes sense, although you’d think playing handheld, but plugged into a USB wall wart should offer the same power as when it is in the dock. It’s all very bizarre. Haha
The Switch runs at higher clocks when docked. No fans or anything. The tegra is also massively downclocked in handheld and even when docked doesn't run at native which is silly. Mark
@@SwitchUpYtyeah make no sense why some Devs can't hit their frame rates in portable. When 720p is half of 1080p docked. So half clock speed shouldn't matter.
Sorry a bit late in watching this review. I guess I have missed this game back in the day. The only Star Wars I loved to play back then was SW Republic Commando. Still one of my favorite Star Wars games still. I still havent bought it for the Switch. But aside from the gameplay and 30 fps in handheld. Is this game worth getting? 68% is a good score overall but is it a game that is a must play?
Me watching a review after already buying the game 😎. Only issues I've had are the lock on not working sometimes and the camera bugging out when I look up or down. Other than that I'm having a great time with the game
Aspyre for the first time improving a game?❤ This is why i bought a switch for the star wars games. Really wondered if i need a playstation for this game but it dont. Really hope one day Obi one and clone wars still come te released it. This game and those 2 are the only one if never played of the classics 😢😢😢😢 And Obi one and clone wars were the only one also not backwards on xbox.😢 Really really love they released bounty hubter ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Now Obi one , really wanted to play bounty and Obi one 😂 Its pretty lot of star wars on switch
I played through the original on Game Cube which held 30 fps most of the time. I really don't understand why you are making a big deal about 30 fps in handheld? Regardless, your frame analysis would have been more useful on later levels such as the Dug hideout as that was where the original really struggled.
@@ThorStoneGaming Hmm... Maybe it was? It's been a while. I just remember it ran fairly smooth most of the time. Something that is true of the new one as well.
Will this be a bounty worth hunting or a Fett-ered mess we wish Aspyr-ed to give us more, lets find out Writing this is as rough as reading, my apologies 😅
I just want a new version of shadows of the empire. I don’t care if they improve anything. I just need an easy way to play it. I always play my switch docked so handheld never matters to me.
It is frustrating that in this day and age these "remastered" re-released games appear to have such little work put into them, 60 FPS should be standard. There really is no real excuse for it. The whole games already been made years ago so it is very clear there doing this for cash grab reasons only and putting minimal money and effort in. Which is a real shame because alot of these games are really good. Will I still buy this though? Who am I kidding, probably yes. But I think, just like the Battlefront collection, I will hold off for a hopeful physical copy because my 1 TB SD cards taken quite the battering thanks to Switch ups sales videos haha 😂
I honestly dont care at all about the PS4 comparisons... to me, it doesn't bring anything to the review. Why does it matter how it played on ps2 or ps4 or ps10? I would rather reviewers just focus on reviewing the game like a regular game. Maybe mention the comparisons towards the end for those who are interested.
People on the r/nintendoswitch subreddit are claiming it's not 30fps in handheld and they are saying you must have had a review copy. I doubt they are right, but just putting that out there..
I played thjis game in handheld just now, it is certainly not 30fps or lower... not sure if it's 60 all the way but it's higher than 30... it might be a post launch patch
@@ThorStoneGaming I'm a Nintendo fanboy because I literally have the game and played it and saw it with my own eyes, and you have nothing to disprove it. No answer? Ok bye.
