+Geoff O'Neal yeah and then you have haters who do prequel rewrites and actually believe it's better than a multi-time films award winner's version... haters, haters everywhere
I like the prequels, but I think they just go too ambitious and made more mistakes, jar jar, choosing jake lloyd as young anikan, focusing too much on the political side, all those small mistakes combine into a worse set of movies than the originals.
@@GabeStrenke As I grow older, I like the political side. In fact, I appreciate it a lot and believe that it's the most important part, seeing that an Empire was formed from a Republic. Shouldn't that be the main point of it, regardless of what George's intent is? For me, the answer is yes.
Right I've been seeing these clips that have been popping out & it seems like he cared for his work & try his best . Its funny how he's skinny in this one on the others he's fat
He was a moronic yes man. The reason the first film worked was people questioned George and they told him when his ideas were stupid and needed to be changed like Gary Kurtz and Marcia Lucas.
George Lucas also didn't want to originally direct the prequels. He just wanted to write but couldnt find anyone to do it. George knows his limits as a Director which was one of the reason's he got Spielberg to do Indiana Jones. He reached out to Spielberg and Ron Howard to direct the pre-quels during the time but their schedules were tied. And remember Empire Strikes Back was directed by Irvin Kershner and Return of the Jedi was Directed by Richard Marquand
@@carmineglitch They're not, they're mostly good, but with lots of writing and dialog faults because George basically wrote the scripts at the last minute of every prequel movie, I think some of them were even 1st drafts too which is just absurd, and with no one challenging him on any of the writing ideas, its no wonder that despite all the immense hard work everyone had to go through the prequels never lived up to their potential, its actually a miracle these movies turned out half decent, writing a script long after your movie has gone into production and finishing it the day before principle photography is just ridiculous movie suicide, I don't know what George was thinking, if George had simply spent more time refining his scripts and also letting a skilled writer co write with him to make sure all the ideas work and all the dialog sounds good then the prequels would have been masterpieces, because the ideas are really strong but were clumsily executed, I don't know why George didn't play it safe like he did on episode 5 and 6, he even said he hates writing scripts and isn't a big fan of directing either, I think he mostly likes the creative side of movie making.
It is so impressive, how much work had to be done to do this prequels and many people were unsatisfied with just everything. This put things in perspective.
I watched a video from this channel that is all about nostalgia from the 50s/60s-80s. And they made a video complaining about the prequel trilogy because it used so much cgi and how they didn't use real, physical models and stuff like that. But then I come and watch these webisodes and say to myself, "Man, look at all that cgi they used" (in a sarcastic voice of course)
That's why I love watching the Blu-ray features and certain RU-vid videos regarding the visual effects on the prequels. Cuz they actually show what were CGI and what were practical effects. Even Jar Jar Binks wasn't CGI in every single shot as they'd made an actual suit for Ahmed Best to wear for certain shots.
I was just looking at Tunisia on Google Maps and apparently there's an actual city in Tunisia called Tataouine. Apparently it's where George got the name
The Phantom Menace is the second best Star Wars movie in my opinion. I understand if people didn't like the movie back in 1999, but it did not deserve to be trashed at all. It was one of the most technologically advanced movies of its time and took so much work. Not only that, but in my opinion, the story was so nicely timed and placed.
Revenge of The Sith is way higher. Attack of The Clones is the worse. Phantom Menace whenever I last saw it wasn’t as bad as I remembered but I wouldn’t rank it that high as a prequel movie.
Like the film or not, it can't be denied that he put a lot of time and effort into it. Just because a product isn't great doesn't mean they automatically have a bad work ethic
I loved the prequels as a kid. They I became an edgy, internet-knowledgeable teen and decided they were trash. After a decade of not watching them, I've found that I actually like them better than I did when I was a kid. They aren't perfect but they're damn fun movies if you allow yourself to enjoy them.
But just think if they went on set with a lava fight for obiwan snd anakin, they could realistic everyone burning alive when the platform everyone is on accidently collapses from combined heat and weight stresses of full size props and crew :S
I LOVE EPISODE 1, 2 AND 3!!! I love Star Wars I, II, III, IV, V, VI, 50% from VII and ROGUE ONE but I love the super cool Prequels the most! But SOLO: A FAKE WARS STORY, JOKE WARS VIII and FOOL WARS IX I want to forget forever the last three Star Wars films are a trauma for me in terms of look and story !!! I really miss George Lucas at work ...
Here is a real producer. Disney just thinks they can hire a visionary and pay a "producer" to throw money at an idea until it makes a billion. That's how you get a product instead of a film.
Prequels: *working very hard to bring a unique story to life, gets shit on by everyone for virtually no reason* Sequels: *rehashed ideas, no originality, same template plot as the originals, gets praised by everyone* What the fuck?
George took it like a champ once again, but it is understandable he focused a lot more on pushing cgi on episode 2 and 3, shit like this gets too expensive when you consider the man power and clean/repair costs
George & Rick were a dream team. Lucasfilm badly needs them back onboard for the new films. Rick in particular was great, he had his finger in every pie regardless of whether or not he had to. Lovely guy with a lot of passion for the franchise & medium as a whole. It speaks volumes that the PT cast & crew recall working with him so fondly whereas the ST cast & crew barely ever mention Kathleen & always seem irritated by her in interviews.
"...therein lies my job, my sole function, is to make everything S O D E N S E" Gotta give it to Rick McCallum though, this is some crazy messed-up shit to go through when making a film, in some ways even moreso than Episode IV and given the circumstances he and the production crew did a Hell of a good job.
Always remember, George only sold to Disney because some fans couldn’t appreciate his hard work and passion for the franchise. I blame them as much as I blame Kathleen Kennedy, JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson. You all ruined Star Wars.
BS. He was finished with it. He had nothing in the pipeline of Lucasfilm. Washed up. The sequels were turds on the sidewalk, making shit in a bag on the sidewalk (the prequels) look good.
You mean that sound stage that was on a tiny Irish island where a lot of the most important pieces of the movie take place? Or using locations and stills from salt flats in Argentina? Or going to Croatia to film street scenes for Canto Bight? Yeah, definitely never left the soundstage.
Damn, look at this tons of work! Amazing! Though there are bunch of people depending on the Podrace might just be there to double the screentime......dfq, i don't get it..... how can't you like those scenes? :O
I always find some of the "hate" fascinating. if the prequels were as bad as people think they were, star wars wouldn't be one of the most valuable movie franchises in history that it is today.
3:01 These guys are out there fucking boiling in the heat and still had the sense to tell everyone to hide their water bottles before filming started. D&D 'We kinda forgot'
At the end when Rick says “I love shooting on location” I just felt bad for him, because the next two movies would be shot less and less on location until 3 where all but one shot was done in front of a blue screen.
Looks like the local Tunisians were roped in for extras. They must of been somewhat perplexed, though I’m sure they had fun. Well, perhaps it was very hot and rather tedious. Who knows?
Did they REALLY have to go to Tanzania? Couldn't they have just gone to some remote desert like location in California? I mean, I know it's rough, coarse. and gets everywhere, but it's just sand.
