Fun fact: Lucas never intended the lightsabers to be anything other than blue (for Jedi) and red (for Sith). The reason Luke's new lightsaber is green is because the blue blade didn't show up properly against the darker blue sky in the Tatooine battle. They changed it to a colour that would contrast better on film, and green lightsabers became canon as a result.

First off, of all the tons of Star Wars reactions, yours have been so great and entertaining! Second, there is a subtle thing when Luke goes to Vader and Vader examines his lightsaber. It's very much like how you'll see a dad who has been fairly absent and is like into cars, then sees his kid buys a nice car and they have a small bonding moment. For Anakin, he's a gearhead and a mechanic, so of course he would be proud of Luke making a lightsaber. It plays like such a real, grounded and genuine moment.

"The Return Of The Jedi" has a triple meaning. 1. Luke's return, which goes without saying 2. With Luke's victory, it means the Jedi Order can now return (Jedi is singular and plural) 3. This was a redemption for Darth Vader, since Luke sensed there was good in him. He died as Anakin Skywalker, hence the return of THE Jedi

I find this hard to believe. On the issue of whether Vader was intended to be Luke's father, David Prowse somehow knew that was a possibility. He told the press how Empire Strikes Back would end and George got angry with him for that which is why he kept all scripts for future Star Wars films top secret. Even back when there was just 1 Star Wars film, some of the characters were behaving like they know a lot more than what they're telling Luke. You have Owen and Beru giving each other strange looks after Luke told them that R2 and 3P0 belonged to Obi-Wan. Then, Owen was quick to tell Luke to erase the droids's memories and when Beru mentioned how Luke has too much of his father in him, Owen replied, "That's what I'm afraid of." Next, you have Obi-Wan hesitating to answer Luke's question of how his father died. If that kind of reaction isn't the perfect segway to Vader being Luke's father, then I don't know what is. On whether Leia was intended to be Luke's sister, there were hints throughout Empire Strikes Back that sets up their potential sibling connection. First, when Luke leaves Dagobah, Obi-Wan believed that he was the jedi's last hope but Yoda tells him, "There is another". Next, when Leia is escaping from Cloud City, she hears Luke calling out to her through the force. This should've been obvious that they're related because near the end of the movie, Luke hears Vader calling out to him as well. If George really didn't plan all of this out, then he has a funny way of showing it.
@ArmouredPhalanx
@ArmouredPhalanx 2 года назад
@@loudboy317 You find it difficult to believe because you already know what happens in episode 6 and have gone back and retroactively prescribed meaning. Try, if you can, to pretend that Episode IV was the only Star Wars movie you've seen (or that it was the only one that was ever made). Would you draw any of these conclusions? Or is there a far simpler explanation that pertains to the story at hand? For example, Owen makes his feelings on Obi Wan known ("That wizard is just a crazy old man") and that he doesn't want Luke going off to join the academy, or as Obi Wan later says "He feared you may fallow old Obi Wan on some damn fool idealistic crusade like your father did". This is all very typical Hero's Journey "Call to Adventure" and "Refusal of the Call" stuff. Obi Wan takes a moment to collect himself and tell Luke about what happened to his father because telling a kid how his father died and your part in it can be a bit difficult. It's just 'acting'. The simple fact is that the events as depicted in these scenes is what was originally intended and only handwaved away in later movies ("...from a certain point of view.") when NEW ideas were introduced. If you need more evidence, all you have to do is go back and look at interviews with George from around the time Episode IV came out, or look at earlier drafts of the story to see how things evolved (the story was constantly changing and evolving). And if you want another time capsule of how things were originally intended, read "Splinter of the Mind's Eye". It was a novel that was written while the first movie was still in production, and meant to serve as the movie's sequel if it flopped. The romantic relationship between Luke and Leia is more developed and obvious. As for Empire and 'There is another...' Nowhere in the movie is it made obvious that it was supposed to be Leia. ...Because it wasn't supposed to be Leia. It was originally an artifact that was left over from earlier drafts of the script when Luke WAS supposed to have a sister, but it was an entirely new character. And there are a few alternate drafts which actually state that no, there is no other hope but Luke. So... take that for what you will. George Lucas is an amazing creator and a fantastic 'idea' guy. I love the world that he created. But if you think he had it all planned out and things didn't evolve from movie to movie, year to year and didn't change his mind on a whim, then you should go back and learn a bit more about the behind the scenes history of Star Wars.

@@ArmouredPhalanx There's still the matter of David Prowse already knowing that Darth Vader was going to be Luke's father even before George wrote the script for Empire Strikes Back. There's a newspaper article from 1978 where David tells the reporter about the plot twist for the next movie. How would he know that if George wasn't planning on adding the "I am your father" scene into the script? Why would George accuse David of spoiling the plot of ESB before the movie was released? Even if I were to pretend that Episode 4 was the only film I've seen, I would still draw the same conclusions based on Owen and Beru talking about how Luke has too much of his father in him and the way Obi-Wan "collected" himself before answering Luke's question. David Prowse didn't have to pretend because he made the same conclusions too and he turned out to be correct. As for Leia, it's true that there's no indication throughout A New Hope that she was Luke's sister (or Vader's daughter for that matter) but you're wrong about ESB not making it obvious about her being the "other". As soon as Yoda said there is another, the movie cuts straight to Leia and there's still the issue of her sensing Luke through the force. She turns the falcon around and knew exactly where to find him. There's no way Leia would know that Luke was in danger or how to find him if she didn't have any Jedi powers. Also, George has a habit of disregarding the expanded universe especially the ones that were written while the 1977 film was being made.

Someone's probably already mentioned this, but Anakin's theme from the prequels is the Imperial March backwards. And the cute, happy parade at the end of Phantom Menace is the Emperor's theme in a happy upbeat register. *Edit:* Also, the woman who played the green twi'lek dancing girl (who got killed by the rancor) actually was in the new footage from the edited edition you saw - she'd barely aged a day since 1983, and was still a professional dancer, so she fit in the old costume and everything.

As someone who is born shortly after the first Movie hits Cinemas it is delightful to see the young generation enjoying so much the movies that my generation loves since 40 years. The only bad thing about watching them now the first time is you never will see how much they have been changed during the years to become better and better. Not just by quality matters but also like continuity wise. In the original version Anakins/Darth Vaders "Ghost" at the end was played by the Character who was to see under the mask. But now for continuity they show the Actor who played the role in episode 2 +3 :)

Lucas changed it so the movies would match up. When 6 ends that was Anikan. Then 25 years later, he had a different Anikan (actor). And as mentioned, he wanted them to be the same. As far as being old, don’t know if they had de-aging tech then but my theory is that’s what he looked like the last time we saw Anikan before he became Vader. We can recognize him.

@Kristopher Chavez I think Yoda put it very well when he said the Anakin Obi-Wan knew was gone. Ben even explains this to Luke when he said the good man that was Anakin was gone. So when Vader ceased being an agent of the darkside, it was the older Anakin that had returned to the light. You're not going to regress to a younger Anakin because that Anakin no longer existed.

@Beverly Rankin, I agree. For me this is truly the final movie. That fake 7-9, actually attempts to replace the original trilogy by destroying it. I will always argue that a true SW fan cannot accept what doesn't fit within the Original trilogy's lore. That is why The Mandalorian, and the Clone Wars have been successful because they respected the original trilogy instead of trying to erase it to replace it.
