A deep dive into Darth Vader's mechanized body and helmet and fully realize in 3D! Enjoy!
Darth Vader’s suit followed an ancient Sith tradition where the warriors of the Dark Side of the Force would clad in heavy armors, and because of this, it also incorporated many aspects of Sith alchemy to help with Vader’s weakened physical strength and vitality, after his near-fatal duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The helmet is the most important part of his suit. The obvious purpose it serves is to help Vader breathe, but it’s far more complex than that.
The helmet is made up of three parts; a protective neck gaiter, the primary mask, and the outer shell.
Designed to be intimidating and to strike fear into the opponent, Darth Vader’s helmet is a combination of both Sith tradition and technology, custom-fitted to Darth Vader’s head, and designed to be removed as needed to show his face.
The gaiter helps support Vader’s neck, has a nutrient feeding tube, and this is also where his iconic and booming voice is processed and projected. The mask is the most intricate part of the helmet.

and yet his suit was a shit, darth vader was a burdening coffin, limited mobility, and he was in constant pain every time. His life support system was literally exposed in his chest, and was designed to be succeptible to electricity (palpatine's power). He tried to cure himself through meditation and force healing, but then palpatine constantly exercised an oppressive dark force influence to prevent his healing. Also, vader was resorting to the dark side of the force to cure himself, not a very smart move since it was too difficult to make it cure and needed extreme concentration, something that he didn't have. He also wanted a better arnor, but it wouldnt be any reason for palpatine to purposedly choose a poor tech armor and poor tech medic droids for vader from the start if he would let him improve or change his armor in the future. Palpatine WANTED vader to be weak and in constant pain and struggle, so he didn't let vader switch to a better one, which would be wonderful for vader and, if he still decided to help his son in the final confrontation and turn back to the light side of the force, he could have survived and became a powerful jedi master once again, maybe even preventing the new order to exist.

Palpatine could have perhaps wanted Vader to be in constant pain, so that it reminds him of his hate towards Obi Wan and the Jedi Order, so he stays in the dark side. You think Vader would have turned to the light side earlier if he didnt feel his pain anymore?

It also has been stated that the armor was purposely made very cumbersome and uncomfortable by Palpatine as punishment as were his prosthetic limbs. But the pain caused by the suit’s uncomfortableness fuels the dark side for him. And having to reinvent his style of combat to work around the limitations but also maximize the abilities of his suit he literally became one of the greatest duelist.

@@angusrumplemeyer1791 I’m seeing a running theme with Palpatine and downgrading every bit of technological advancement in the empire including his own apprentice. Personally, I've always seen Vader as a tale of how 1. the darkness will always try to sneak up on you 2. No one is too far gone to be saved. and 3. How one's emotions should always be tempered by rationality. Anakin had fear because of his dreams which were vague, Palpatine used that fear to push him, and if Anakin had stopped and thought about it he would realize that Yoda was right when he said that the future was always changing and that the dream could have been only one possibility of what could come to pass.

Can people truly be forgived for their crimes no matter how cruel and brutal they might have been? If Darth Vader was a serial rapist instead of a cold blooded killer, would we have less sympathy for him? Would fans or directors still give him another chance at being good? Clearly killing is worse than rape, but it doesn’t sound like it if you make Vader a rapist instead of someone who slaughtered Jedi. What if he raped Jedi instead of killing or torturing them? It was my understanding that while the primary objective was to keep Vader alive, the very close secondary objective was to cause constant pain and discomfort. This stemmed from Sidius's hatred for the failure of his student and acted as a constant punishment. The pain was a big driver for Vader and one reason he became so powerful. Someone as severely burned as Anakin would never have survived without intervention, let alone replacing all his limbs. Third-degree burns over almost his entire body should have killed him outright, not to mention shock from the loss of his limbs and the gases he inhaled before he was rescued. It was surprising that Palpatine went to the trouble to save him.

Anakin was athletic looking, tall and formidable but somewhat lanky and thin. I think in addition to the suit and prosthetics, the Emperor had growth hormones pumped into Anakin to make him even more menacing.

Vader's Robot-Samurai helmet is mightily iconic. I can't help but think he might've looked more like General Grievous had the character been designed later, unrestricted in cybernetic form by having no need for a physical actor beneath.

Remember when Darth Vader was an imposing space samurai, who may have been able to travel in a vacuum, and the purpose of whose dehumanizing modifications, as seen in ESB, may have been to make him even more powerful, and not a burn survivor with a colostomy bag? Yeah, General Grievous got body modifications as his backstory later, but the main point is that some backstories are better left to the imagination. Beautiful work on the video, by the way, but l also love the RLM takes on the Expanded Universe materials in that they emphasize when an addition makes the universe seem smaller and less original instead.

There’s a difference between what Vader became and a person adding mech to their body. Soldiers returning from the battlefield with parts blown off get arms and legs and they’re getting limbs that actually function like their old ones. We’ve been fitting people with internal defibrillators for years and bypassing damaged organs when needed. Right now Vader is beyond what medical science is capable of but I think the future is more like ghost in the shell then Vader and his 6ft 8inch whatever he is

A very well made video. Some of the subtitles had inaccurate translations but the graphics and the detail are excellent. Something I've always wondered - Palpatine saved Anakin's broken body and turned him into a cyborg, to serve as his "tank". (rpg terminology). What would have happened if Vader took some of his organic DNA and cloned it, and just made another healthy Anakin, free of Palpatine's influence and machinery? (If this was explored in a non-canon novel, I'm unaware of that.)

@Tanat83
@Tanat83 2 года назад
It was his self-hate and conflict that kept him alive for more than 20 years, even during the times when his suit malfunctioned. It wasnt just the suit but also his emotional well-being that sustained him. After Vader let go of his hate and turned on the Emperor, his suit was severely damaged and he held on for a little longer to ask Luke to remove his mask so that he can reveal himself. When Anakin died soon after, he was also free from the prison (I.e. the life support armor) that he locked himself in for so long.
