Something I meant to say but forgot: the cost of the Core Sets in the Buy-In Army Guide are all divided by two (because I'm assuming you'll either split with a friend or be collecting both factions).

Coming to this game from warhammer...its funny seeing people think legion is expensive...and then you realize it still is and that gw is just a scam

I guess I have a huge Stockholm syndrome. I mean price of one semi-decent army in 40k could easily buy me two full armies here. With options. Jesus Christ.

Yeah 25-30 for a full squad compared to gws $45-$60+ for half a squad. This game if far more affordable.

Cad bane is awesome and super reliable. He has a specific and useful tool box for adding some different types of tricks and tactics to droid armies.. he just has a difficult learning curve to figure out but once you do he is extremely versatile and extremely mobile and reliable at shooting. He’s an auto add to almost every army I run. I still think he’s a little expense next to other units like Sabine wren and Rex but if you figure out how he plays, he’s more than worth the points

Just started in preparation for a Skirmish league at a local game store. - (1) Core Set - (1) Unit of Tauntauns - (1) Sabine Wren Assembly and painting takes a looooooong time for a new player…

Oh man that sounds like a blast! And yeah, the hobby aspect of the game is something that I thought I wouldn’t enjoy, but I’ve grown to love it. You also get faster with time of course. Cheers!

i just got into it a few months ago. either way you go its expensive. its not one of the cheaper games like walking dead all out war or aliens|(board game technically). i wish i would have bought multiple core sets. if there is one piece of advice you gave thats absolutely crucial to listen to its that!!! i did not and im buying for all four factions lol. and building bigger boards, mats and terrain. i still have quite a bit to go but im up to like 36 or 38 expansions under my belt. i started with characters i liked instead of troops i needed also. bad move. i did sell a ton of heroclix to finance most of this and fallout wasteland warfare. that really saved me alot.

Tbh it’s way cheaper than other war games like war hammer. You’re looking at around $18-30 for standard unit expansion over the $60+ that GW costs.

@@pilot4701 its expensive. It is lol. There are many other games out there that cost alot less to get into. Aliens(either game lol), walking dead(again either game is cheaper lol), etc. Even crisis protocol and xwing are cheaper depending on what you buy to get started. Those dont require buying tons of "extra" basic units that are seperate from the starter set also. It is expensive. Period. Its not one of the cheaper games out there by any means.

This is incredibly helpful for a new player thank you so much! I didn't see a legend, but I assume for difficulty that blue is easy, purple is moderate, and red is difficult?

It is a lot less good than it was. A lot of players have figured out how to counter it, and facing 13 act lists is just not that surprising anymore. That being said, if you play it a lot you’re going to get very good with it.

Hi, when you say 3x core set, or 2x (on the droids) you mean the whole 3 or 2 sets with 1 Greivious? Thanks in advice

Yes, I mean buying 3 whole Core Sets (and FYI the price I use in the sheet assumes you are splitting those Core Sets with a buddy). This means you end up with 3 Grievous minis you can paint! I did one with the cape and two sabers, one with the cape and a saber and blaster, and one no cape with 4 sabers.

Local game stores hold tournaments. Unless you want keep just playing your neighbors. So tad bit more love for the local game store.

So what’s your advice for someone who wants to start but does NOT have another person to split a core with?

Good question, but the answer I think would really vary from case to case. I could imagine situations where any of the following might be good options: -Go to a local game store where there is a Legion scene and let the group there know you’re interested in starting up but are looking for someone to split a Core Set with. -Use internet groups to try to accomplish the above with someone in your area. -Just buy one Core Set, then set aside the units you aren’t going to use and attempt to sell or trade them later on (or maybe just hold on to them in case you decide you want to play that faction too) Cheers!

My intent was to do one of these a year, but I think the battle forces are such a game changer that I might need to do a second one this year. I’d hate for someone to take outdated advice and miss out on saving money when breaking into the game!

That’s a great deal-nice! Hopefully this video and some of the tools we’ve put out will help guide you to what to get next. My personal recommendation is to first focus on your favorite character(s) from the SW universe and continue to expand from there.

Oh man I wish-that would be epic! But no, all the stuff you see in The Playbook is my personal collection. It sometimes really helps motivate me to paint! 😆 As for a Saber Playbook, that would be a good one. I don’t personally collect Clones but my buddy does, and he has one. I’ll add it to the list of good ideas!

Hi Ben. Have found these lists really helpful as someone who has got into the game in the last 3 months or so. Just wanted to flag that the Lando, Luke & Wookiees list has 4 special forces in it. What would you drop, what would you add?

Oh wow that's an important error to find-thank you! After removing the extra strike team that I had mistakenly included in the list, I chose to suggest adding a unit of Fleet Troopers in order to keep the list at 10 activations (which upped the price by $30). The other option would be to leave it at 9 acts and add personnel and grenade upgrades to the corps units, but I think losing out on that additional activation is too big of a deal to take this path. I've updated the tool to reflect the change.

I’ve never been so upset that I can’t insert a gif than right now. 😆 Please imagine Denethor saying, “Yes, I wish that.” We know that there is something called “Shadow Collective” coming out soonish. It’s possible that it could be released as some sort of a mini core set, but no one really knows at this point. Also, if you just want to try the game, I guarantee if you have a local group at your FLGS that someone would allow you to try it with their models. Otherwise, if you own TTS you could try it there before taking the real-life plunge.

a possible go to plan could be the Tabletop Simulator via Steam with the SW:Legion from the Workshop. That was my way to get the first "feel" of SW:Legion

Sad to see GAR is dead since it is what got me into legion just recently. Spent like 200 splitting a core set and buying a bunch of expansions to play. Gonna pull out and stop collecting/playing, just glad I didn't spend more. As a college student I simply don't have enough money to build multiple armies.

Well, GAR isn't all that dead. If you're consistently playing at the top levels of major tournaments, you would probably have an easier time with a different army. But for local game store and kitchen table play, GAR os totally fine. And the minis are still fun to paint. Factions wax and wane out all the time, see Empire as an example. I encourage you to take some time and try playing locally before you completely drop out of the game.

I mean if the thing that someone enjoys about this game is trying to figure out how make the strongest lists and win tournaments I don’t think that’s wrong, and similarly if the thing a person loves about this game is just playing for fun with buddies that’s also not wrong. Basically, as long as you treat yourself and others well, play the game how you want! :)
