R.I.P. John Cygan, the voice actor for Dash Rendar in this game. He also did other video game characters. He was a true legend.I hate when one of the best peoples like him die. It breaks my heart.
if done correctly it would be alot better than solo and kenobi. of course i dont trust disney to make any good star wars these days. hopefully they sell it back to lucas
@@bigmikeobama5314 Dash Rendar is the Han Solo type, so how do you get a Harrison Ford association in people's heads even if he's nothing like him? Blade Runner 2049. Have Ryan Gosling play Dash Rendar, and have him battle Darth Mall's torso attached to robotic crab legs. Using his ingenuity, he'll be the first regular guy to take down a Sith Lord.
Ha ha. I had it on the n64. I went to my uncle's house one day and he was playing it on the pc. I saw the cut scenes and I was very jealous and freaked.
Color me surprised. I loved this game back then on the N64 but until right now I didn't even know there was a version with actual fully acted cutscenes. Absolutely mindblown right now :O
I always thought it was funny that Xizor honestly believed he could use Palpatine as a puppet, when Palpatine's pretty much seen through Xizor's schemes.
Darth Vader saw through it too. I believe in the book Darth Vader was the one who killed Xizor blew up his skyhook with Xizor still inside it from his Star Destroyer. Years before Shadows of the empire Palpatine had Darth Maul kill the old leader of Black Sun and I think I recall Xizor took over Black Sun in sort of revenge for that.
@@ryancentnarowicz Xizor wanted revenge on Vader because he was responsible for the death of his family on Fallen. One of Vader's secret weapon facilities had a biological outbreak and Vader ordered the entire region including the city to be destroyed to prevent anyone from finding out about it.
I always dug that still image of Dash, that rough, tough, grizzly, 30 something manly man with crows feet, 5 o'clock shadow, somewhat looking like Kevin Costner. Dash was cool.
It's kinda weird that they didn't have one unified look for him since this was all a planned out multimedia event. Some illustrations and photos of him give him brown hair and looking like Kevin Costner as you pointed out, some make him look like a gritty version of Richie Cunningham, the action figure makes him look like Crix Madine, etc.
Fun Fact: IG-88's line of "You will detain me no longer." was also said by Boba Fett in the Shadows of the Empire graphic novel to a bunch of rival bounty hunters, asking to be cut in on the bounty for Han Solo.
Whoa this game had actual cutscenes??? I played the N64 version and all that had were slide shows with subtitles. These scenes are so cool. Also WHY THE HELL isn't Shadows of the Empire made into a movie yet?
Too many "adult" themes for the Disney crap that is star wars now, including how Prince Xizor used "pheromones" to sexually lure Leia during the comics and of course the constant "I want to kill Vader" thing from the same guy.
shadow of the empire is one of the most forgoten gems of all the hecking time, like first of all they actually made a understandable and coherent side story that doesnt throw away anything and cohexists near perfectly with the og moviesand also has his own shine by just looking at how much it had at the time obviusly the only bad side is the fact that due to technical reasons everything was compacted to be in the n64 but still the fact that its still a blast to play makes me feel chills, i shall thank everyone that made this game
For me as an N64 player, this is unseen footage. Those cards didn't have enough space for cutscenes, so they went for static images with subtitles instead.
Shigeru Miyamoto had a small influence on this game. When it was in development for the N64 he advised on how to make the in game camera work and told the developers to make sure that Dash's feet where visible at all times when they where on the ground.
Shigeru’s a total boss. It was thanks to him that this was a pretty good game and a memorable side story. If the camera was not as aligned well as the final project, and I ended up falling off ledges because I couldn’t see where my feet were going, this game would have been terrible.
SOTE is such a great media campaign. The game, novels, comics, and figures are all done well. Disney is foolish not to include it in their fan fiction.
Disney (and LucasFilms) were sinfully foolish tp have just decided to scrap and entire universe or just stop producing content for the universe in general 😤
Yea...princess leia getting seduced by a green guy with a thorny spine that screws a robot on the side. Rougue one ruined such a perfect storytelling and character growth.
I like it that 10:12 is in the same deleted scene from episode IV prologue, where Luke finishes building his green lightsaber before heading into Jabba's Palace.
According to toy galaxy one of the people who worked on the project had a Portuguese boyfriend called Xico ( pronounced “Sheeko” ) and always thought Xi both sounded and looked cool. They added zor from razor to make the name exotic and dangerous.
@@f-22raptorlandingzone30 it makes sense now seeing them in The Clone Wars series with the Fumanchu and top knot inspired hair. They’ve strong Chinese inspiration; the Black Sun Empire.
auranit lol kids like you are lame and the number of them are too much to count lol. Maybe that's why life these days is so boring. Funny people are disappearing
I wish they would make a Shadows of the Empire inspired movie. Instead of having Luke and Leia in it they could be replaced with maybe Kyle Katarn and Mara Jade hanging with Dash Rendar.
I don't think you can just replace Luke and Leia or any of the OT characters because Shadows of the Empire was supposed to like a hypothetical OT episode set between Empire and Jedi. The game makes it seem like the story is all about Dash Rendar and that the rest of the characters are replaceable, but in the novelization and comics, there's plenty of focus on the OT characters. For one thing, Xizor is trying to kill Luke in order to gain the favor of Palpatine.
@@axebomber2108 Why not? They slowly replaced our beloved characters in the abomination we call "The Sequel Trilogy". A new Shadows Story doesn't even have to be the same one from the original timeline. It could be something new entirely like when they put Thrawn in Rebels. Besides you can't cast Mark Hamill as Luke that young anymore unless you're rebooting the original trilogy.
I wish Disney made this into a movie, some wrinkles would have to be ironed out, like Xizor plan, and the Vader- sidious dynamic, but it's all there, now, without Carrie, I dunno how they could do it, but they should do it. A lot of the things in Shadows was great stuff
Oh man I wish these had been in the N64 version rather then those still oil paintings with no voice acting and just text , would have helped me understand the story better when I played the game when I was 9
The penultimate scene on Tatooine is clearly inspired by a cut scene in Return of the Jedi. Which makes me wonder: who knows if back in 1995/96 Lucasfilm was planning on releasing that scene in the Special Edition?
FANBOY Most games of LucasArts at that Time were Great. By 'that Time' I mean before Disney took over. I really enjoy Jedi Academy, Oryginal Battlefronts and more.
I clicked on this video thinking it was a fan made project. I was very surprised to find out that these cutscenes are official AND you didn't actually die at the end of the final mission. I got bamboozled from multiple fronts by playing the N64 version.
The environments and vehicles look really good, but the CGI characters are actually kind of scary. I think I preferred the artwork stills in the N64 version sometime. Noticed also that the PC cutscenes don’t include the scene of Dash talking to Han on Hoth or the scene where the emperor and Xizor talk, after the spaceship infiltration stage.
IG-88’s voice sounds like his vocabulator is badly damaged. I guess that’s mainly due to the voice of IG-88 I’m more use to from Star Wars Empire At War: Forces of Corruption.
If Boba returned to life (despite being declared dead in the RotJ by Lucas himselves) then who known who Dave&co might bring back this time from the legends.
Where’s the cutscene with Prince Xizor talking to Emperor Palpatine? Was that only in the N64 version? I felt that scene was important because Xizor gave the plans of Endor to Palpatine in that scene.
I loved this games story and esspecially loved how cool dash rendar and his outrider were its too bcad now star wars rebels has made a bunch of kids the owner of the outrider
Update: It is indeed the same type of starship as Dash Rendar’s Outrider, but according to Rebels director Dave Filoni it’s not the Outsider itself. According to EW, the person who originally designed the ship for the Shadows of the Empire video game now works on Rebels, so Filoni let her put it in. A rough underrated gem, this game. One would even like it more if they checked on the rest of the SotE Multimedia Project. Ah, those were the days. Shame its Prequel equivalent, Bounty Hunter (featuring Jango Fett), doesn't have a modern multiplatform rerelease. At least SotE still lives on the PC (I recommend the GOG version), alongside Episode I: Racer (which also has Switch access).
The Nintendo 64 lacks of cutscenes, but having a Nintendo 64 in the mid-90 was like having a Playstation 4 in the mid-2010 you are able to play the same pc games
Learning about shadows of the empire and how it made of making a Star Wars movie without actually making a Star Wars movie making a game, book, comic, soundtrack, and a toy line makes me kind of wish they would something like this again the closest thing I can think of is high republic
Back when Star Wars still held magic, Boba Fett was cool and the continuing adventures of Luke Skywalker held so much promise. Back before Disney destroyed everything. I love this game.
Well, you're not wrong since I did enjoy both Disney and Star Wars but only when they were separate back then, kinda like the same thing for Marvel too when that happened. Tho' confession is I did sorta enjoy that Bad Batch show since it's from that Clone Wars cartoon I watched on Cartoon Network growing up lol.
It's rather interesting to see the fact that LucasArts reused some of the uncanny valley models from the infamous "Masters of Teräs Käsi" game for SOTE's PC CG cutscenes, especially Luke and Leia's.
shadowslayer205 the book and the game are different stories. As a game, it's not based on the book so much as it's telling what happened from solely Dash's perspective while the other stories were being told in the book and the comics at the time. Shadows Of The Empire was a multimedia project set between Empire and Return Of The Jedi, with each piece of the multimedia project (book, game, comic) telling different parts of all that went on in that time period. The project was designed so that you could enjoy each work of the project both separately and together.
I have asked Pablo hildago is this book/game. Story canon , he said No ..,really can't see why this is not an official story.. .it all fits in the right places..
Anyone else surprised (or not surprised) that the cut scenes from Star Wars games in the 1990s, are better than 98% of what disney has tried to "force" feed us? See what I did there? Oh well, guess all that's left is old cut scenes, novels, comics and dvds.
