It's interesting that they're about the same order of magnitude as out actual ocean haulers. I would have imagined that they would be much, much larger. If you had a ship with 50 of those containers, it would be impossibly large to steal anything from

@@bigrichman100 if you as a pirate manage to get your hands on and operate a jubjegator why would you worry about some random cargo ship, just go and conquer a sector in the outer rim lmao.

@@Julian-pw5mv But when you're dealing with trade, there are never just one or two, there would be several in a convoy. That's not including the escorts which would also be captured, growing your fleet. The amount of cargo would mean even greater credits into your coffers, giving you the ability to simply either buy several planets and eventually a whole sector, or control the trade in such a way that the sector would have to align with you to get what they needed. Simply conquering a sector puts too much of a target on your back while putting the ship, at more of a risk.

The Xizor transport has turreted normal lasers, not turbos. It gets a little confusing because a lot of things will say Laser TUR and it's unclear if it means TURet or TURbo. Ironically there's a mission in XWA where you need to protect three of those Xizor transports from of all things Black Sun pirates. I had a hard time of it till I read a guide that pointed out that they're actually quite well armed and decently durable so you can fight best by staying close to them instead of trying to keep the SUPAfighters at a distance.

Bulk Friends Forever! The containers and transport ship were one inseparable hull in the original X-Wing game, but it blew my mind that in TIE Fighter they could spawn separately from their transport and be pulled around by tugs, and suddenly there were containers everywhere.

The Container Transport is my favourite cargo ship from Star Wars. I like the way the actual ship takes a minimal amount of space as it is basically a skeleton of a ship with places to attach the cargo pods around it. A thin connection between the engines at the back and the cockpit at the front and the cargo clamps around it. And it has just enough guns to make pirates think twice but not so much that it becomes a priority 1 target for attackers. Besides, these kinds of ships would be quick to load and unload as you just move around the crates with other ships and there's no need to dock to a station or land and carry everything through a cargo ramp.

One of my favorite appearances of this ship is in the game Jedi Knight. In the first level, there's a place with an exterior cargo elevator, and before you walk onto it you can turn to the right and see one of these massive ships docked. If you use the flight cheat code, you can actually fly over to it and stand on it, and get an impression of just how truly gargantuan they are up close.

A BFF-1 is also visible on Nar Shaddaa in the Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight game. You actually walk across the exterior hull of one parked over a chasm to get from one building to another. I also got thinking that the Class A containers that these carry look a lot like the containers on the Conveyex train in Solo.

The Acclimator would have made a fantastic freighter in the outer rim, especially for trips from one side of the rim to the other (in one go). If any managed to fall into private hands post clone wars.

I remember an X-Wing mission against an imperial convoy of BFF-1s and CR-90s. I was just to identify the ships and cargo, not engage, so when TIEs showed up, I'd "trench run" down the center of a freighter; any TIE following me would more likely impact. The pilots of one BFF-1 and a CR-90 would always run into each other, too.

there's nowhere to put any turrets without massive blind-spots and adding manover thrustes to something to such an extream mass of cargo would be v.hard.

in the game these things traveled in convoys and you never had enough torps. You usually had to do a fly by to identify the cargo then disable or destroy smugglers or enemies. The disable missions often had an escort mission at the end.

Seeing something like this, the visuals make me think 'torpedo boat' from my time playing table top. Add a quick release mechanism for the pods, some disposable engines and maybe a plasma punch or something on the front for some initial hull pen (along with some extra explosives if you've got the budget) and you're set. Granted you'd have to figure out a way to get their shields down first and conduct a bombing run to get within 1 turns movement for the pods starship speed so that it reaches its target that round but that should be doable. I'd have to do some accounting though to see if the cost of replacement pods was cost effective.

I love your videos and added lore, but a BFF-1 bulk freighter is about as "pirate-proof" as 3mm of cardboard... ;-) Getting through those shields even with a single X-Wing doesn't take you more than a minute or two with fully charged lasers. As they have no weapons, there's also no need to spend time evading defensive fire, nor is there any risk this thing can run away in normal space. Their only chance of escape in case of an attack is a quick hyperspace jump. The BFF-1 bulk freighter's design obviously followed more economic reasoning and the assumption that escorts are available in more hostile environments. In contrast, the Xizor Container Transport is indeed another breed. It can make the life of attacking fighter pilots, especially non-shielded or only lightly-shielded ones, miserable, not to say a deadly endeavour.

Ok... I have a serious problem with the xizor transport. If you flip the containers upside down you can fit 3 more containers on the damn thing. This is fucking space, there's no god damn weight limit. Sure you accelerate slower but if you're hauling twice the cargo that's twice the profit!
