Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker movie review - Breakfast All Day 

Nothing about this movie was satisfying. That ending broke me. What happens to Ben broke me.

JJ Abrams is creatively bankrupt. “Idk what to do, oh let’s bring Palpatine back” This movie is a mess.

Thank you for addressing the “bias” talk. I think that people who say that don’t actually understand 1) the meaning of the word “bias” and 2) the what film criticism is/what the job of a film critic is.

How did I not know that you 3 continued after What The Flick! Been really missing your detailed reviews and varied perspectives.

Just got back from the theater about 2 hours ago. Flawed yes, but I couldn't help but love it anyway. I enjoyed Force Awakens but was disappointed that it was a retread of A New Hope. I did not like the Last Jedi, but not because of the new Jedi powers. The space chase that went on for 2 hours with people leaving and coming back just didn't work for me. And the last line from Rose - what was that? (not the actress' fault thought! I have no issues with Kelly Marie Tran.) The Rise of Skywalker was crammed too much, and it showed, but I still loved the story with Kylo and Rey. That, for me, carried the whole movie. I loved the ending. I just did. Maybe it was safe, but I loved it.

Awesome discussion! The prequels were tedious but at least have some themes that pin things together..but the threequels are really only pinned together by fanservice which makes for a trilogy that is solidly "eh".

The original trilogy was revolutionary. The prequel trilogy is what happens when that revolutionary now has the keys to the kingdom. Oftentimes it doesn't work out quite the way you want it. The sequel trilogy is when future generations take the mantle to try to recreate that initial revolutionary spirit through imitation instead of innovation.

This is the ONLY review for The Rise of Skywalker I've been waiting for!

Mr. Robot Season 4! You guys need to watch it and talk about it! It’s unbelievably good!

Found you guys because I couldn't get enough of BOMBSHELL. Also happen to be a STAR WARS fan. By the way, I don't care what Megyn Kelly says, Santa Claus is a black man.

The dramatic moments and the action sequences in STAR WARS EPISODE IX: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER aren't bad at all, but they aren't memorable either. Even the worst installments in this franchise have at least 1 of each. The 1st scene confirms that the villain all along was the same villain in the other 2 trilogies. Come on! It wasn't until this moment that I realized that this sequel trilogy would've been a lot better without the original characters. At least without them in the main cast. You can't have a sequel feel like an epic finale if there already was an epic finale 3 episodes ago unless you focus on only new characters. A big flaw in EPISODE VIII: THE LAST JEDI was that, after spending an entire movie having characters meeting each other and bonding, the heroes were separated into small groups with different subplots. This movie has a lot more team work. Well, except when REY walks away without telling anyone. That happens way too much. I was annoyed at her attitude and how the others would look surprised every time. I'd even argue that certain bad things wouldn't have happened if she had stayed with her friends. 5/10 *Spoilers ahead! * What does it say about modern cinema when the last major release of the entire decade uses so many obvious cheats? By that I mean that it, if we don't see the dead body, the character isn't death. I think that became obvious a long time ago in our own galaxy. I knew that CHEWBACCA and BEN weren't really dead. The former especially because, as an OG character, he would've gotten a proper send-off. What's weird is that, in cases like these, we get a complicated explanation on how the character survived after the revelation. Here, we're left to assume that BEN is powerful enough to survive a fall and REY says that CHEWBACCA must've been in another ship (without confirmation). While we're on this subject, I knew C-3P0 would regain his memory because, after it's erased, the situation is treated mainly as a joke. I already knew what was coming, but the characters didn't, so why aren't they more upset? He called you his friends, you assholes! By the way, I expected a reference of any kind to the memory erasure in EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH. So REY is PALPATINE's granddaughter? But we didn't know that he had a son in the 1st place. That's not how plot twists work. When I saw EPISODE VII: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I predicted that KYLO wasn't going to be redeemed. He never seemed like he was as manipulated as ANAKIN was when he turned to the dark side. It always felt like he was completely aware of his actions... including murdering his father. And... yeah, he got redeemed. Showing HAN forgiving him helps the subplot not feel as uncomfortable, but I'm still not completely OK with it. When it seems like POE and the others are about to lose, LANDO shows up with reinforcements. While it's a total deus ex machina, I give the movie credit for not doing a complete 180 in which the heroes have the complete upper hand. We see ships from both sides being destroyed.

I am lifelong fan and very easy to please. I dont mind Ewoks. I enjoyed Prequels. I liked Solo, I liked Force Awakens, and I loved TLJ. Heck I even like Holiday Special: we finally see Kashykk, and both Bea Arthur and Carrie Fisher sing in it so whats not to like? But even I have my limits. This movie jumped the shark for me way tooo often. This is the first time I truely hated a SW movie, and I blame J.J.Abrams.

Kinda hated The Last Jedi at least as a sequel to Force Awakens. Kind hated this one too.

7-9 will be remembered as a corporate Frankenstein. honestly it’s so pathetic how 7 was purely a reaction to the prequels and a copy paste hack job, 8 was purely a reaction to 8 and a tonal disaster, 9 was purely a reaction to 8 and was a mutation of a movie. Honestly the sequel trilogy is pathetic.

star wars needs to go away for a couple of years and come back with a straight plan of where we want to go with it and how we want to go there. Give us something new without completly disrespecting what came before the Mandalorien so far succeeds with this

The Last Jedi is the most visually stimulating of the new 3, but.... He made a lot a mistakes, specially with Luke Skywalker. It’s not enough challenge you expectations, you have to surpass them. People growing up with this trilogy will become more vocally about how they love this trilogy, the same way how people are saying that the prequels weren’t THAT bad.

The films script was problematic, mostly because its laden with disposition and very on nose moments. It barrels along so much that its impossible to emotionally engage with anything at times. Set piece aftet set piece with little room to breath.

I agree that Rian Johnson's movie was so so much better than JJ Abrams first try. Abrams damn near ruined the thing.

I'm 100% with Matt on this. I'm a lifelong Star Wars fan and I loved it. I realise there are problems but they don't diminish how great and happy I felt watching it.

Episode 9 is also all kinds of great. The Kylo-Rey dynamic is the golden star of this trilogy. Kylo's relationship with his parents, Luke's continued participation, the use of Hux's character, Rey's final scene, Lando, and Finn-Poe's relationship were all great.

If you even put a MODICUM of thought into the story of this movie it completely falls apart in a sequence of plot contrivances, memberberries and the worst part of all is it BREAKS LORE and ruins the Original Trilogy. Any Star Wars fan should be ASHAMED to enjoy this movie as a part of the Skywalker storyline.
