Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Review (SPOILERS After 2 Minutes) 

When Leia died and Chewie found out is what got me.

For the first time in Star Wars history, C3P-O was actually more useful than R2-D2.

Super nerdy complaint but when Pryce first attacks the resistance on Exogol he say's to fire the ion cannons but the ships fire their turbolasers. Just an annoying inconsistency.

Kylo is definitely the best character to come from the new saga.

Ben Solo being a heroic, cocky and slightly clumsy Jedi. Might be my favourite moment of the entire film. It's such a shame we're never going to see him again. It's one of the great injustices of the Sequel Trilogy.

I'm glad you were able to honestly talk about the negatives of this film without resorting to anger as some other fans have.

Ben Solo acted a bit like Han when he was using a blaster towards the end of the movie Also when he called Han "Dad."

Took Luke almost 30 years to finally lift that X-Wing out of the water.

this feels like it's both a sequel to a film that doesn't exist and a weird response to the complaints of the last Jedi

I think Leia died by using the force to allow Han to be able to talk to Ben one last time, draining her life force.

I'll like to think that Snoke is a local species of Exogol, like the hooded Sith followers in the arena. He is just one of those puppets brought out to distract the rest of the universe.

I think Palpatine was literally all the Sith implying the Rule of Two means that once the apprentice kills his master they become one, slowly becoming stronger and stronger with each Sith master. But I think Rey meant metaphorically when she said she was all the Jedi. She has all the Jedi behind her helping her along the way and that good will overcome bad every time.

They should have had one person write all of these movies

You explained how I feel about Ben's death exactly! Every Skywalker's story ends in tragedy. Ben deserved the chance to explore his redemption and heal the wounds he and his family caused the galaxy. It felt like a bittersweet ending, when I would have preferred a hopeful ending.

Do you think the timing of showing the child use healing and Rey was on purpose?

I really liked the flashback of Luke and leia training and I really liked seeing Wedge in the film

In that final battle, did anyone else blurt out "Holy Crap, That's Wedge!"

Now it's all said and done, i hope they finally go (pre)Old Republic with the next movies, to me it seems like the logical era to explore. If the PT/OT/ST served as a middle and end to the wars between the Jedi & Sith, ancient times will serve as a true beginning to their rivalry. Lightspeed in it's infancy, mandalorian crusader clans and their war against the Old Republic, the first Jedi & Sith and their empires, the hundred year darkness, Moraband/Korriban, Sith dominance until their demise with Bane as the sole survivor, and going into hiding... I'm all for it. I have waited since Tales of the Jedi from Dark Horse to see it on the big screen someday, KOTOR sealed it when it was released.

"It's fine" hits it right on the nose for me too. What this film solidifies for me is that there was clearly no overall vision for this trilogy.

Just some quick thoughts (spoilers) 1. What happened to the rule of two? Palps stood by that ideology the first 6 movies, but discards it here in favor of a complete power grab. 2. They often did something that would be a major plot twist, but resolved it a minute later. Such as when hux revealed he was the spy and he was killed a minute later, or when Chewie was supposedly killed but must've been on another transport. 3. So many meaningless characters that could've been great, like lando or the Knights of ren. 4. I liked when Palps said DEW IT, just a subtle quote that made me smile 5. Great job with Leia, it really seemed like her character was meant to be that way in this movie

I personally loved TROS but I like your attitude as a whole like "yeah this wasn't a favorite but there's so much other stuff I love", wish more people were like that instead of just ranting and saying "CANCELLED, OVER, DEAD FRANCHISE!!!11!1!1!!" when they don't really like something

The pacing was all over the place and it felt like they tried to cram two movies into one

Rey's parents looked old enough to have been born during the Clone Wars. The Supreme Chancelor of the Galactic Republic certainly had enough charisma to impress a young woman to bear him a child.

I enjoyed this movie but it would of been better for me if: Palpatine never returned, and we got some other main antagonist threat. Ben got some god damn lines after turning back to the light, and ultimately just didn't. Die. Rey not calling herself a Skywalker. It would of been better if she said "just Rey" forging her own lineage in a sense. I'm with this review for the most part. 6/10 sounds right

Spoiler comment: Snickered in my seat when a resistance dude suggested to 'Holdo hyperspace ram' that Sith fleet when they get to Exogol. Then another says that was a one in a million move. Lmao at least that gripe form Last Jedi was mentioned in this movie.

One thing that really upset me; This means Ahsoka had to die to be up there...

Headcannon is that the old lady at the end was related to the officer in Solo and their whole family is destined to name star wars heroes with no last name.

The only problem in my opinion with this movie is that it’s too much to take in and feels rushed. My opinion is that they should have split it into two parts, kinda like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It would have allowed for better story telling. It would have allowed for a better explanation for some plot holes

This was an error. This whole trilogy should have been planned. It's painfully obvious what a mess this became behind, on, and in front of the screen.

This film should have been titled "Star Wars Episode IX: Threat Level Midnight"

I choose to believe that the title Rise of Skywalker refers to Ben, not Rey.

This really highlights the whole "art is subjective" thing. I actually agree with most of your gripes (especially the Palpatine stuff, although I still LOVED his scenes, I always hated the whole Palpatine clone storyline), but I loved the movie overall. Probably my favorite of the Sequel Trilogy. Yes, the movie has flaws, but I feel like it does a good job overcoming them to present a really satisfying movie overall. I think TLJ is the black sheep of this trilogy. I think if Disney would have given the whole trilogy to JJ so it could all be a unified story, the trilogy would have been better overall. Or, at least have given Rian Johnson a roadmap instead of just saying "do whatever man". Seeing other people's reviews isn't a bad thing, but make sure to go out, see the movie, and formulate your own opinions as well people. Love hearing your take on the movie though!

When Kylo revealed that, my face would have hit my knee if my palm didn't catch it. Exactly what Alex said, I sank into my seat. That really disappointed me. It just wasn't necessary to go in that direction. It's not canon that Palpatine created Anakin, so why does he have to have basically created Rey. Anakin was created by the Force. Why is that okay but not for Rey. And are fans of the film really going to be okay with how Rey defeated Palpatine? I just haven't heard the complaints about the same things that people couldn't stand in TLJ. But I get that it just happened and people haven't digested it all yet, including me.

I freakin love your Star Wars content There have been too many people who have been hating on Star Wars since Phantom Menace and no one seems to want to enjoy it. The only thing I feel wronged by was Snap’s death, moments before step-dad Wedge shows up for a blink and you miss it cameo.

Does no one realize that was Hans medal that was in Leia’a belongings that she used to conjure a memory of him - the heroic A New Hope him- from the force for her son in her last action and then it was given to Chewie because he is the only one left form their original family?

Is it weird that my favorite part of the movie was Poe acting like Finn's jealous boyfriend for so much of the movie? Because it was. Lots of fun, that. The Palatine stuff. Oh boy. I was excited when it came out in the first trailer because hey maybe they'll do something interesting with it. But then they didn't. It just struck a negative cord for me and I ended up frustrated the whole movie. With Leia they did the best they could with what they had and it was better than I expected, but I knew how they did it and I could see the scene from TFA where it was all cut from and that distracted me a bunch. Although I will likely find it funny how Leia is completely calm while everyone around her is panicking in the future. I really wanted to love this movie, but it just made a bad first impression. And that's pretty hard to get over.

To quote the prophecy of the chosen one “through him shall ultimate balance be restored” the keyword here is “through” through Anakin the corrupt Jedi were destroyed, through Anakin the sith (himself and Palpatine destroyed) through his Lineage, (Luke) the light was restored within Anakin and the Jedi order preserved, through Ben was ultimate balance restored through selflessness and compassion saving the one he loved, something Anakin could never do. The skywalkers guided Rey the ultimate dark being, to balance through their teachings. The skywalkers all walked a thin line between dark and light, and through Anakin and the Skywalker lineage ultimate balance is restored, and the Jedi order changed forever. Rey rebuilds the Jedi order with the Skywalker teaching, which will change the Jedi order forever. To quote another important statement from Yoda himself “misread the prophecy may have been”

Did you guys notice that palpatine used quotes from revenge of the sith

I found this to be two hours of amazing action, adventure, visuals, and humour, unfortunately capped with a very disappointing death.

I really wish Anakin had more of a role to play in Palpatines death. He is the chosen one, George Lucas has said so, and the prophecy was to destroy the sith. His prophecy wasn't complete in Return of the Jedi because he didn't destroy the sith. Not only does Palpatine come back but he has all the sith within him and Anakin is not the one to destroy him at the end of this movie.

How is Snoke Palpatine if Palpatine apparently sensed Snoke in the aftermath novels. How does this make any sense. Great review by the way. I agree with you on a lot of things.

They really just made Dark Empire 2: Electric Boogaloo, didn't they

I feel like there were some pros and cons. Some story stuff I like. Other stuff I did not. But the pacing was really bad to me. I couldn't get over how everything just went by too quickly. That's what really got me the most in the end.

The movie was very entertaining. I really liked Kylo, the best by far, and to my surprise, I really liked Finn as well. But... lore wise, it was a mess.

Great review. Everyone needs to take after Alex here. He didn’t enjoy it as much as he thought he would, but he’s not here to bash it or complain. So much respect, seriously. No one seems to be able to do what he does these days. I look forward to hearing more from your take about the movie in the future

I pretty much agree with everything here. So all I really have to talk about is the Sith. I didn't like that Palpatine was just back, and didn't like that now there were just millions of Sith - as a fleet, and as an audience of fanboys in his throne room. It should have just been a splinter faction of the First Order fleet that until now was secretly in his pocket. And his audience just shouldn't have been a thing. Granted, I did like Palpatine's design. He looked undead, and I just loved that his face had a lot more of Ian McDiarmid in it. One thing I did love about the final fight scene is that Palpatine threw Ben Solo into a pit. It was a great little reference to how Vader threw Palpatine down the shaft in ROTJ. There was a lot with this movie that didn't gel with me. And I love Palpatine, but he just should not have been the main villain. I liked the Force Awakens, so I just have to say I'm really disappointed with JJ. He could have done such a better job. If he had just stuck with what Rian had put into effect, he could have still bridged the three trilogies together and still made a really special climax for the series. Kylo could have been the big baddie. Rey should not have had a lineage. There were things about the movie that I absolutely loved, but it was a mess. And now that the Sequel Trilogy is over, I can say that ultimately, I'm not a fan. I will always love Star Wars, and I do like the Sequel Trilogy, but when it comes to the Sequel Trilogy and it's overall plot, TROS is a disappointing climax I love the movie for a lot of its scenes, and some of its "less relevant" story decisions, but I dislike most of the central story decisions and plot elements. It's just so messy and contradictory to the previous film, and over-saturated with fan service that I just can't help but be disappointed.

Film was good for me, a few little changes that would have made it complete for me, probably could be done in a fan edit easily 1) Anakin and Luke being in force ghost form when Rey is fighting Palpatine, would have added a lot more impact to that scene personally and would have kept Anakin as the chosen one 2) Kylo not dying 3) When Rey goes to tatooine, have a Padwan with her calling her Master Rey, would emphasise that the Jedi order has started again and there is peace in the galaxy 4) Kind of with my other point, thought it would be cool if Rey renamed the Jedi order the Skywalker order, would fit with episode 8 how the Jedi order failed and needed to end. Also would have honoured Anakin, Leia, Luke and Ben and their role in restoring peace to the galaxy with the new order emphasising love and not fearing the dark side. Would also be a more impactful explanation as to why she called herself Rey Skywalker at the end

Also Palpatine coming back was like through all that technology and stuff he’s tied to machines much like Vader with nothing but the dark side of the force to sustain him while he waits for a new vessel. Presumably Snoke was a temporary vessel and the Kylo killed that... so back to the old body it is. He talks to Ben through the force like Leia and Luke did at the end of Empire. Idk why this isn’t working for some people. It made total sense to me, but Star Wars has always been sort of up for interpretation which is one of my favorite things about it

I loved this movie. Only thing I really hated was that Ben died leaving Rey to be the last fake skywalker. Each movie in the trilogy I liked but they dont work as a whole unforunately.

I felt a lot of the same things that you did after watching and every time I tried to find a similar response to mine I was just turned off and upset at how negative so much of it was.
