My theory is that she's Galen Erso's daughter, Jyn's half-sister. After going back to work on the Death Star, Galen remarries and has a kid-in order to keep up the ruse that he's a team player. That kid grows up to join the First order, rising in the ranks, to subversively try to take it down from within, just like her father.

I'm betting Phasma isn't a member of the resistance; instead just doesn't support the First Order's world-destroying device of death and destruction. Like Finn, she doesn't exactly need to be part of the rebellion before she can do things to help it. And she doesn't have to go full traitor in order to help, either. She can still be part of the First Order while not supporting their ideals entirely. A morally (and literally) grey character. But, that's just my bet. I'm sure Ep 8 will prove us all wrong regardless.

She's not the first female Star Wars villain. Remember the bounty hunter Zam Wessel from Attack of the Clones.

The book on Phasma’s back story tells a different tale. She doesn't care for the First Order or the Rebellion. She only cares for herself.

Phasma was not the first female villain in a Star Wars movie. Zam Wessel was. And if she doesn't count because she wasn't in the movie enough, A: That same logic applies to Phasma, and B: Then Asajj Ventress was in the Clone Wars movie. And there was a female villain in one of the Ewok movies too.

Dang, this fits in perfectly with a theory I have, that Phasma is actually Sabine from Rebels working to take down the First Order from the inside. And yeah, Sabine isn't British, but she might be faking to blend in better.

now that you mention. it she does say "you're making a big mistake" in the same tone as I've seen under cover cops in crime movies say it to other less aware cops. If she's not an under cover resistance member, I think if nothing else Gwendoline Christie thought she was. Besides this fits in well with some of the stuff Cassian says he has done in Rouge One. They can even reveal thst Phasma belongs to the Intelligence corps from Rouge One (or what they grew into after the events of Rouge One and the civil war).

Assuming this is false, I'm just putting it out here. I would have given her a bigger part by showing her in the trash compactor, calmly radio some troops to get her out, then when Poe Dameron and the Resistance pilots come out of hyperspace to attack the base, she rushes off to correct her mistake and re-raise the shields, only to find that Finn, Han, and Chewie have destroyed the console. So with one last chance to set things right, she heads straight to the hanger, gets herself into a fighter, and starts shooting down X-wings in some sort of more advanced version of a TIE interceptor or something; where she's shown-off to be at least an excellent dog-fighter.

Spoiler alert: at the end it will turn out it was just bad writing.

Hmmm... I am less convinced that she's an undercover agent for the Resistance, but this whole video has made me think that Captain Phasma might be working for Supreme Leader Snoke DIRECTLY. Like Mara Jade (back in the good ol' days of SW EU), Captain Phasma could be a deep undercover agent, but not for the purpose of betrayal, but rather keeping an eye on Kylo Ren (and other poeple withing the order who hold power). Asking Kylo Ren about the villagers? Checking if he has truly committed himself to the Dark Side. Lowering the shields of Starkiller base? Snoke might have decided that he wanted to get rid of it for some reason (it WOULD be sort of worrying to have underlings you may not entirely trust, have control over a planet killer). It would fit well with the naturally paranoid outlook most Sith have about their allies. The Rule of Two might seems stupid at first glance (why limit yourself to just two people, and why have a cycle of teaching and betrayal?), but it was the best way for the Sith to stop themselves from wiping themselves out.

Captain Phasma is a character idea taken from an amateur writers star wars fan fiction called 'Tarkins Fist'. Captain Phasma is the daughter of Grand Moff Tarkin. She has beef with Luke Skywalker, as he killed her father. The actual fan fiction is quite good. And the author was rewarded a small fee for his character idea.

In the book Jay quoted, Captain Phasma doesn’t really care about her allegiance. The book makes it quite clear that she only cares about surviving, even to the extent to cut off her own brother’s leg. Phasma can switch sides instantaneously to remain with the winning side. While the books aren’t as reliable as the movies, the book was well written and fun to read. I highly recommend it!

I like this theory. It's a good theory; however, I'm afraid it is the quality of this theory that confirms it won't be real. This is just too clever and too "in the background" of the main plot to have been considered. Remember MatPat's *"Rogue One" crew becomes the Knights of Ren"* theory? Yea. Great idea, that didn't happen because it's too obscure. The thinking behind it isn't straightforward therefore it doesn't happen. (Like for example the fact that Rey will probably end up being related to Obi-Wan somehow) It kind of irks me how the entirety of the Star Wars story revolves around like 2 families..

Annnnddd if you've seen the Last Jedi (slight spoiler) Finn holding a gun to her head would not necessarily be a threat- due to that nice display of her amours strength when Rose shoots her and the bullet literally just pings off to the side.

I really wish this theory was true. That would’ve been 100x better than *spoiler for the rise of Skywalker, you have been warned* General Hux being the spy just bc Kylo Ren made him angry. She was definitely a wasted character.

I really like this idea, though if she were working for the resistance then Leia would have told them that Phasma is on their side and to get her out safe. I think that given how the stormtroopers are taken as children and Leia was unaware of Phasma's loyalties, Phasma had maybe had a similar experience to Finn. Instead of running away however, she decided to stay and fight it from within, undermining the first order when she can.

Phasma's quote from the book made me realize- what if Snoke's will was to have the Starkiller base destroyed? I mean, in order to rally the troops and enrage them further to quell the Resistance. He doesn't care for how many stormtrooper lives are lost, Hux- a general- made it out alive. And nothing make an oppressive intergalactic force angrier than the loss of a giant super weapon, when it happened to the Empire they literally 'Stuck Back'. And maybe it would help Snoke encourage some more darkside hatred in Kylo Ren. Kylo is very young, and the base was likely the first 'big' thing he has been a part of- something that he has done, and it being destroyed is something to get angry about. This is kind of a "9/11 was an inside job" thing but I just realized it

Phasma could be Rey's mother and she had to give her up in order to go undercover because she knew it would take awhile before she could be important enough for Kylo Ren to notice her and didnt want anyone to be suspicious of Rey so she never told the Father she also had a feeling that Fin and Poe would somehow get to Rey so she let them go

I believe that phasma was Kira or how ever you spell it and that Rian johnson thwarted jj's attempt at connecting his vision by eliminating her from the story.

I have a theory/prediction for Toy Story 4: In Toy story 2 right after the song about Jesse and Emily when Woody tries to go through the vent, Stinky Pete asks Woody, Do you really think Andy is going to take you to college, or one his honeymoon?. So, since Toy Story 3 was about Andy going to college, Andy could get married in Toy Story 4 and since Bonnie is obviously a family friend she will be at the wedding and bring the toys. Like so they will see this and say if they agree!!

Would be cool if it was true but if the book "Phasma" is anything to go off of then she was only trying to save her own skin. Not loyal to the either side other than her own survival. But that's of course book canon involving her backstory vs movie canon where we see her present day actions and no real backstory shown.

I think it was just poor writing on the writers part to not use the character more or to make her dumb...just my guess

What makes me sad is that Gwendoline was so excited to portray Phasma, and her character was literally thrown away. Well, the silver lady lives on in my headcanons.

The theory makes sense, nice work. I had no doubts that she was still alive. Movies often try to make it crystal clear, when a character that is shown in multiple scenes dies. You see Jaba the Hutt strangled and stop breathing, same deal Darth Vader, Yoda and Obi Wan both disappear into thin air after surrendering to death. Obi Wan closes his eyes and let's Vader kill him, and Yoda says it's his time and lays down to sleep, 'forever sleep'. The Emporer falls down a giant shaft and then explodes. The General aboard the Death Star isn't shown dying but he's in the middle Death Star, counting down the seconds before the Death Star fired which we know it never got a chance to and he wasn't even attempting to escape so yeah we know he's dead. Much more often then the death is not certain only 'heavily implied' you can be sure they're coming back. We don't actually see Phasma die. We don't know what happened when she was tossed into the compactor. It would have been a good idea for someone to invent some sort of automatic shutdown code for the inside of the trash compactor in case of accidents especially since we know go a fact they have experience with people almost killed in a trash compactor as mentioned in this very video. So if there were such a device she could have used it, walked out of the trash compactor and been completely free to head to the escape pods once she realized the base was breaking apart. I'm not sure whether she's a double agent or not but she does give me a redeemable villain type of vibe. The type of bad guy who doesn't really want to be a bad guy but feels like he/she has no way out. We'll see what happens.

I don’t think she’s working FOR the resistance, but she is against the first order. She’s acting on her own to help the people who can get stuff done, but need help from the inside. If they knew she was good then there would have been a way for her cover to be blown, but if it’s only her that knows her level of value could be INFINITE

man i was litterly searching for this theroy i though of it like the same day you posted this video. she is a fulcrum agent for the resistance. her armor is made out of darth sidious naboo star cruiser. she could take a blaster bolt no problem it would litterly just bounce off. she know fin cant hurt her and still helps them. she is just like the officer in rebels it is cannon that deep seeded rebel agents exsist. she served as a loyal unit to the fromer empire and saw the evil of the sith. so she used her former status to infiltrate the new first order. snoke is suspicious and doesnt trust her so even though she is equal to kylo and huxly she is not allowed the same authority. it all makes perfect sense. also stay outta my head i i so thought of this first lol. jk

Watching this after seeing The Last Jedi, and reading both the Phasma comic and book is actually pretty interesting. Especially considering she (spoilers for the book sorta...?) is revealed to basically be crazy enough/strong enough that she could take down the First Order if she wanted too, or at least one of the characters in the book thinks she is. It's so heavily implied (and said) that Phasma is a survivor (what with her surviving Starkiller Base and several things that happen in her novel) so I honestly believe if she no longer saw the First Order as a means of survival for herself she could be the help the Resistance needs in taking it down. But shes definitely not working for or with the Resistance.

Agent Kallus from Star Wars Rebels is another good example of this.

After reading the Phasma book I am sure that her loyalties are only to herself. She probably saw the destruction of Starkiller base as a way for her to kill her superiors & thus promote herself. She was the first to know that the base was in danger since she lowered the shield so she would have plenty of time to escape the trash compactor & get to her ship.

Your theory makes sense and it also explains, why Captain Phasma was not the one to fight against Finn wielding the lightsaber, because she would have been killed there and would not have wanted to kill Finn
