First ever full recording of Inflight Suite on RU-vid. I tried to fit every single bit into this including signals. This will also serve as a concept for my remaster although some things may still change. Read below if you want to find out how this was done: So basically the game has an ingenious audio engine called iMuse. The way the music is played has relevance towards whats happening on screen. For that to happen in huge action such as space battles and dogfight the music bits were split into 2 bars each. So if emotional status occurs, the first two bars of music of tempo 145 bpm will start to play. If the emotional status continues - next 2 bars are being played and so on. If the emotional status changes - the music changes. Every bit of music consists of 6, 8, 12, 14 or 16 of these 2 bars sections. I needed to put them all together, that was easy. The only thing was: the battle intro sequence (TRO) in game files are already mixed up, although in game, when you start the battle you first hear harp solo arpeggios and only when you re-enter that state you will hear full orchestration. So I already had to edit the MIDI file in order to isolate first occasion of intro from the full orchestra version. I call the first state (with solo harp) TRO1 and full orchestra state TRO2. Next, when every bit of music was compiled I needed to think of how to create this full suite: just dumping them into the track one by one would be extremely stupid and plain, so I decided to create my own battle plot: the battle starts as usual, you have some shots, destroying enemy craft and then you will have waves of enemies where you will be failing your mission, but on second try, returning to battle you will strive to win and succeed. It took 5 draft versions and attemps for me to find this exact solve to the problem of fitting every single track in my plot as seamless as possible. Although many bits of music in this suit are having a hard seams between them, in my remastered version this will sound very natural and clean. Now to actually writing a score for this concept and orchestrating it! Thanks for listening!
For those wondering about this, Laserschwert never did the complete in-flight TIE Fighter music, never mind uploading it to youtube. The TFTC Reimagined soundtrack I did was uploaded as a concept piece but does not use every cue and some of the recordings have been altered from the original with my own original orchestrations. It's really cool to finally hear this in its original form, even if some of the transitions are a bit 'hard' as you said. Good work as always, Alexey!
Literally the only reason I played the original TIE Fighter Collectors CD over every “modern” 3D accelerated port. Another subtle quality that MIDI had over digital orchestrations is gradually turning on the individual instrument channels and slowly increasing the volume as you got closer to the enemy ..that anticipation and slow build up gave chills every time
I'm running an Imperial-centered Star Wars RPG campaign, and your music will be a constant background. Thank you SO MUCH for all the tireless work you do to restore these masterpieces from our childhood.
Never clicked anything so fast in my life. This is absolutely glorious, you are making such amazing contribution to the fandom. I love how you arranged all these little pieces into a coherent operatic storyline. As a non-musical person I can't even wrap my head around how complicated all this must have been. Thank you for this, you're salvaging a beloved piece of video game history from vanishing into obscurity. Can't wait to listen to your final remastered version!
Your talent is outstanding Alexey! I am excited reading your response on one of your other Tie Fighter Soundtrack videos that your work will be used in future version of Tie Fighter Total Conversion. I am looking forward to hearing an orchestral reimagining/remastered version. Those are epic!!
