Starcraft 2 cinematics: "We gotta fight for our people" "Hope and courage" "I love you Jim" "I luv u 2 sarah" Starcraft 1 cinmatics: "WHERE'S THE AIR SUPPORT?!" "Thank God for cold fusion! **drinks beer** " **marines getting massacred by zerg** "I luv u sarge"
@@ifound15min Not really. He kind glossed over the multiple massacre, Kerrigan ordering the destruction of multiple worlds, Kerrigan barely being talked out of dropping a billions of screaming bloodthirsty zerg right into Augustgrad, a very crowded capital city. But that's what you get when you try to sum up a point in the laziest way possible. Jim holding a torch for a woman he barely fucking met in SC1 will always be stupid though.
@@Servellion they actually cut missions due to timing and budget that would have had them work together and establish the romance a bit more. Him choosing Sarah over his promise for fenix will always upset me though. Massive simp.
I played this when I was about 11.. I remember one time, my dad told my he was busy with something, and my response was "Your Vodka can wait, my good father." The look on his face was priceless, and I didn't actually know what I was saying haha
+Alonso de Hojeda Too many years of WoW coupled with the shut down of Blizzard North (thanks a lot Vivendi) is what degraded Blizzard to what it is now.
+Peter Campi Exactly!!! Worst thing to happen to gaming history that I know of in my 15+ years of gaming!! And by the way, WoW was excellent when it first came out. Then... I don't even wanna think about it..
My father was a huge Starcraft fan So when I was three years old, I made marine for the first time At the six years old, I could beat five computers This game gave me a lot of memories But Blizzard doesn't seem to love this game any more It was a great time. Jim,
It's been over 15 years, and I still remember the marine asking where is air support, at the time I had no idea what he was saying because english isn't my first language, but the image of the zerg running towards him from all sides as the ship left told everything I needed to know
Starcraft 1 cinematics were dark, grim and gritty... it looked mature and realistic... starcraft 2 cinematics is so hollywood-ishly CGI abused... they look visually stunning though... wasn't bad either... But starcraft for me should always have that dark tone the way it was on SC1
DiscipleCJ2391 They turned it into a puffy cartoon game for kiddies the grittiness that made the first one so wonderful is gone I havnt played starcraft 2 since I beat it in 2 hours not including time wasted on cgi cutscenes all those years ago
Average battle life span of 4.8 seconds was practically doubled to 9.6 seconds with the addition of the battle field medic. this is what a 25 second training time gets you in the Koprulu sector.
I remember when I saw this intro as a kid, seeing the cruiser abandon the men in their trenches, I immediately knew what war can be and never got inspired by war since; it's one thing to be a brave fighter thrilled by action, it's another thing to know that you're just a puppet easily sacrified
That's a lie and you know it. If you never got inspired by war since then you wouldn't like action games, but since you evidently do, your statement is false.
damn. this cinematic is so impressive that i still get goosebump. the absolute despair that marine felt. endless wave of zerg rushing toward you makes you feel so helpless. the zerg ,endless, mindless, the most effect killing machine coming at you without fear swarming you and tear you apart in a matter of a second.
***** Model detail, but not the effects, atmosphere, lighting or sound. All things they had to master to a small nill because they had very basic model 3ding.
@@yashutang8075 As far as I remember the United Earth Dirrectorate uses a very different dating system. So maybe that has something to do with your confusion :D
+Хан Аспарух It's based off the music playing in the background in the Do Lung Bridge scene in Apocalypse Now (which is what the opening cinematic is hugely influenced by).
NPC 001 yo guys i did a little digging and found out that this guitar solo in 1:15 was made by the director of this intro Matt Samia, who plays in a band called Firemelon, facebook.com/firemelon/info/?tab=page_info, he told me that the track is probably gone by now and we can listen to it here in the video only. Be sure to write to him he will answer for sure !
Starcraft broodwar plot was way better because there was no real "good or "evil" just factions whit their own agenda , protoss fighting for their survival , the UED trying to take control of the sector by any means , and Kerrigan slaughtering her enemies , well yea she was evil ;). Now on SC 2 we had this good space cowboys saving the girl, turning Raynor´s revenge into a romance plot (damn) and Mengks as the cliche evil guy who surprisingly NOT , failed any plan he attempted (lol). Dont get me wrong i waited SC2 for so long and enjoyed it but the story could have been much deeper , not so childish and simple. The hybrid part is good thou , since we knew it was coming (secret mission on bw)
cause it took 12 years and SC2 is such a piece of shit compared to other RTS now. they only improved the graphism and added a few units sound to me like a freaking expansion and to make matter worst they decided to split the game in 3 to cash in more money
Fedas Its not that hard, gone are the gritty dark humor along with the epic sacrifices against the overwhelming. With writing that actually had plot twists. SC2 campaign was the very definition of 101 Hollywood Cliches. And honestly I've played WC3 custom maps with better map design then half the missions. As I said in a previous comment, all the designers and developers that created Blizzards golden age have left the company. They are now unable to develop a well developed and designed game aimed towards th more hardcore gamer audience, and now most of their success actually lies in the casual consumer. Not that is a bad thing, however sc2 and diablo 3 were definitely let downs. Edit: Typo's
***** i have to disagree, thats you're personal opinion. I like Sc2 WAY more than SC or Broodwar. but thats my opinion. also sorry if my english is lame its late, i'm tired and just don't care.
Does anybody else hate how they turned the Zerg into lovey-dovey creatures in SCII? Yeah screw you too Blizzard! Should have had Kerrigan killed instead of explaining why she must live!
Happy Reviewer It weakened the tension in the story. Who is the bad guy? Mensk? He didn't feel much of a threat in Starcraft 1. He was part of a bigger story. Why did he all of a sudden become the main villain? He barely managed to survive at the end of Brood War. And now he's dead? And who's the main villain? This supper-massive God-Like creature? I think David Brevik was right when he said, "People matter in the industry", because now we can see it with our own eyes. The developers of the Blizzard Golden Age are gone now, and it shows that they can barely come up with anything decent even with new recruits. People matter man, they really do....
Yeah I hear ya man. I get tired of these Blizzard Apologists or whatever you call them, saying that we have nostalgia on the mind. They don't know they Blizzard lost prodigies on their team. Prodigies don't come around every 10 decades or even 20 for that matter. Because it's been 20 years since Diablo 2 and Starcraft 1. Maybe more. Yet, they can't surpass their own games anymore. They should be like, well we made that game dam good. Let's build off of it. Except this wasn't they case they scraped the old units. This might be getting off topic, but the thing that made Halo great was they knew they had something to keep and build off of just a little. There are exceptions I know this. Warcraft2 was a great sequel and new new game. The first one didn't have air or sea. There's a point though. Don't replace the classics with lesser appealing products.
There could be multiple reasons. Disputes in pay. Developers got tired of new crap stories. Finally, some maybe felt it was time to venture out on their own. In which case, wouldn't be Blizzards entire fault, but still a good bit.
Happy Reviewer agreed, Kerrigan should not have been the focus of heart of the swarm, it should have been some other queen who reunites the swarm. When kerigan was first infested, it was like her evil demonic side that you wouldn't want to cross, like that mission when you had to purge the cores, Kerrigan was freaking scary. Now she is a friendly beasty, who wants to help everyone while voluntarily wanting to look like a monster, I mean wtf
the brood war intro always made me think of the do lung bridge scene from apocalypse now. There was nothing like this in starcraft 2 which is why it wasn't nearly as good.
+Ltpeppers05 It's Do Lung in a galaxy far, far away(: "Who's in charge here?" - and you just expect to hear - "Ain't you?!" And then the roaches come(:
1:03, they weren’t just inspired by Starship Troopers it seems. The ammo count on the gun is a reference to the pulse rifles from Alien. Also, for the book that Starship Troopers was based on, the soldiers also had mechanical exoskeletal suits like the Terrans do.
For all you who miss the good old days; There's a mod for Starcraft 2 called "Starcraft Mass Recall" - it recreates the entire SC 1 & BW campaign for SC2 Search for Starcraft Mass Recall on RU-vid and see for yourselves :)
He's in the little shuttle floating through the debris. You don't see him but in SC2 Raynor hangs out a POS bar called "Joey Ray's Bar". Could be a coincidence but I doubt it.
RIP to the marines who died fighting down there. Back when even cinematics and graphics were extremely Dark, Brutal and Terrifying even before the start of the game itself which was and still is my favourite! The zergs' brutality and the Terrans' hopelessness is so full of thought provoking moments, til death without help when one thought about would have been the only chance of survival and escape is absolutely scary and sad to watch! Bravo to the old schoolers like myself!
Amazing considering that this game was released in 1998 (when i was only around 2 years old) those cinematics are outstanding. Its breakthroughs like this that make Blizzard the best gaming company and make their games some of the best around the world. You rule Blizz!!!
I always loved this cinematic, I thought it was the best I'd ever seen back in the day. I also remember being surprised when the same marines from the beginning of this end up nuked at the end of it. but personally I'd rather be nuked than killed by the Zerg.
When the Brood War expansion pack was being developed, the Earth Directorate was originally going to be a fourth race, basically Terrans but with far more advanced technology. But scheduling conflicts in Blizzard prevented it from happening. Plus they would have also needed to completely mod and balance out the other three races to make a fourth one fit.
I feel this cinematic is introspective to the state of humanity and lack of leadership amidst utter emotional chaos. Letting the system dictate when to fight when to rest when to die and finally abandoning an agenda that they miss the target because of the lack of unity with Protoss bringing unity through destruction.
Won't get siege tank splash damage in a trench, hydras can't get ya easy, and when zerglings do get in, they are all packed in and bottlenecks easy for a firebat to torch.
give me a break, trench warfare was a doctrine that was designed to help the troops against the artillery fire which was the most devastating force in WWI. as the doctrines changed the trenches vanished with the advent of airplanes, MBTS and long range mobile artillery.. 1. mutalisk and the glaive wurms can eradicate anything that is stationed within a trench. 2. ultralisks , lurkers and defilers can turn the trenches into slaughterhouses 3. we are talking about an enemy that can burrow-charge a position. 4. the term you are looking for is WALLS, have you ever watched starship troopers? watch it and learn why walls are a better option to trenches.

You're forgetting these fortifications were likely erected during the Guild Wars, or other of the plethora of Terran on Terran conflicts. The Terran war machine was prepared to fight other Terran, not Aliens at the time.
My father proudly played StarCraft. And when we were little, he showed us this cinematic. It kinda traumatized me XD It traumatized me to be absolutelly adicted to it
Yeaahh I know this comment is over a year old, but I recently was thinking about WH 40k and SC Marines comparison and who would win in a 1v1 battle. The answer (in my opinion) is: Whoever gets the hit first. Standard bolters are essentially loaded with miniature demolition charges that hit their target behind its armour. But each and every 8mm bullet from Impaler Gauss Rifle goes well over the speed of sound and they are capable of eventually penetrating the armour of heavy vehicles, not to mention other Marine's armours. And they fire at the rate of 30 rounds per second, you saw how fast that Marine depleted his clip. So whoever gets hits first, dies, be it an explosive bullet turning your insides into mush, or a cloud of super piercing shreds of metal, changing you and your armour into swiss cheese.
Bruh, space marines have multiple hearts, a rib cage as thick as their armour and can sruvive for a while after organ failiure. While a wh space marine would die from the hail of bullets, it would not be instant and the space marine will always get the first shot in due to their reactipn speed (the sons of medusa for example can predict what their opponents can do so well it means they ALWAYS get the first shot in.)
THIS, was StarCraft. Horrible, brutal, glorifed war. Not that shit they gave us in SC2. Man Blizzard I really wish I could get a chance to talk at a BlizzCon just to say, "You really fucked up with SC2 and dropped that ball big time Blizzard, after 10 fucking year this is what you give us????" Then just walk off stage lol.
+IIIJFRIII Regardless, it was more faithful than SCII to the original in design, it still had Dragoons, and even had the first Protoss unit with a ranged weapon. And a multiplayer that had concepts mixed from Battlezone [1998] (vehicles in FPS), Return to Castle Wolfenstein and C&C Renegade.
3:27 - 4:10 Evoked more emotion than anything I've seen in SC2. I don't even get me started on the final cinematic of the game where Jirard shoots himself.
@@kemonoautumnfall6331 "Admiral the colonies base will be overrun in a matter of minutes..," that and he didn't know who was in charge.. And didn't see the air support right above him. And the way he used his gun. All of which implies he's not a trained soldier but a conscript from the colonies militia.
Interesting thing to think about if you compare this and SC2 cut scenes. The games were 12 years apart, and processing power doubles every 18 months. This means there were 8 doubling periods in processing power. That may not seem like a lot but it means that SC 1 was made with 1/256 of the processing power available! Suddenly these cut scenes are downright cutting edge!!
"I wish new Blizzard wouldn't have done this I wish things were still this good blah blah blah" Guys and Gals it's seriously our turn now. If we want these games, stories, music pieces and we have all these intense criticisms WE are gonna have to be the ones to make it happen. it's our turn to put down the controller make the sacrifice of our time and energy and GIVE BACK. Seriously its been lingering with us and it is most definitely the answer. Who else? Who better? I don't mean to sound cheesy, but I hope someone reads this and understands. Stops making excuses, and puts in the work. It will be fun. We can all contribute and we can damn well do this. (I've posted this on a few videos but only because I truly believe and mean it)
It was the atmosphere and the theme that made them great. SC2 has very high quality animation, and badassery, but not one of them makes me get chills like the 'Amerigo' or BW intro still do every time I watch them. It's like Aliens, it's just badass for life.
As a korean kid in 3rd grade, i didnt understand what they were saying and always assumed the bald marine was DuGalle's son, hence, glaring at his father's BC for abandoning him "because of the mission"
Terran fortifications and technology was suited for Terran versus Terran combat before the Zerg Invasion, since the the Brood War takes place almost immediately after the events of SC1 (Considering the way Chapter 4 The Fall opens), they haven't had the time to update their technology to create units suited to fighting Zerg or Protoss.
You also forgot adapting their strategy and tactics... but then, since the Zerg's stratagems and tactics are dirt simple by design, to be fair, it really doesn't take a genius to realize that nuking them from orbit just to be sure before sending in any surface combatants would be the smartest possible move especially since the Terrans are nuke crazy.
***** what he did was give himself an honorable death since he lost the battle(even though the zerg were still finishing of the terrans) this is like in world war 2 when the japanese generals would kill them selfs and then their forces would fight the american to the death knowing victory is imposible
***** A theory is also that DuGalle was partially mind controled by Duran, who we know was a powerful shapeshifter in service to Amon. Duran wanted to eliminate the UED Fleet, so that his plans may proceed without any complications. It is not verified if he truly mind controled DuGalle, but it's a possibility.
I remember as a kid my friend was like "I got SC come over and play" I get over to his house and hes playing SC on the console... Never seen again after that day.
Fuckin goosebumps here alright. Never knew, even after all these years the intro of Brood Wars still has that epic opening. Something that I couldn't feel with Starcraft 2. But then again, for nostalgia sake, and because of years of anticipation, Starcraft 2 was an inevitable letdown (Well, for our expectations actually). In defending the sequel, I think the team at Blizzard did a great job in expanding the lore, and while the whole Kerrigan/Arthas trope is kinda cliche, it did wrap things up for the franchise. The Zergs in the sequel is less scarier, I can agree on that, but thats because they're elevated to an anti-hero kind of role; but more protagonist than antagonist so its obvious why the developers made the zergs more "cuter" and less uncanny. That, and being that 90s low res graphics was a hit back in the days for being cutting edge at the time - us being in the 21st century with HD video games made us expect more from video game graphics to provide us with more immersion. Lore wise, zerg evolved to suit Kerrigan's preferences? I mean, being an infested human, you'd want some "recognizable" human friendly features if you're going to rule comfortably right? Or maybe the zerg incorporated kawai alien lifeforms into the swarm.
The Xel'Naga temple was on Shakuras. Aiur was lost due to a complete overrun by the Zerg. The Protoss evacuated it . Shakuras is still firmly in Protoss' hands and seems to be their base of operations now.
as the years go by, old blizzard has remained hardcore and no one will surpass them and has not surpassed them, legends with a sad expression on their faces... There won't be any more of these
