Honestly one of my most anticipated things about Starfield is seeing Davey's *Scrappy Aesthetic* building style

I have no doubts the outpost system will be in depth; there's a skill called commerce (shown at 14:21 in the Starfield Direct) for opening and running businesses, which is probably related to the outpost system. They likely wanted to focus on the newer gameplay mechanics as we already know they have been doing outposts systems well from their last two games.

For the named crew i think its going to work like the special vendors you could find and recruit in fallout 4. either random event/quest unlock related. i hope they do a semi-deep dive into show settlements work. like if we can increase max crew. what we can produce and how decoration works.

The modular build and the free camera building really screams no man’s sky to me. I like that, i think NMS is very similar to Subnautica in that respect. It seems to lack the ground modifications like NSM and Valheim’s flatten and raise ground tools.

I hope outpost inhabitant pathfinding works well. I remember how de-motivating it was in Fallout 4 creating these elaborate and cool settlements only for the NPCs to pop up on the roofs and unable to use stairs. Really killed the "make your own settlement" feeling.

Norespawns, first I'd like to say that your settlement build videos are part of what finally convinced me to get Fallout 4. Now on to the main topic: One thing I want to know, but that nobody covering Starfield rumors/info seems to even ask the question about is if you can give custom names to your outposts or even planets you claim, because that would be really cool. Heck, I have a long-term plan to basically spend the first 100 hours or so of gameplay just scouting & surveying systems (and selling the survey data for money to keep exploring) until I find a really good star system that has at least one earth-like planet with life & like at least 5 other planets and/or moons that have a decent amount of mineral resources & set up shop there. Heck I even have a whole themed set of names for planets and/or outposts that I build in this system that will become my own vest-pocket space nation: The habitable planet will be named Etheirys, with my main/"capital" outpost being named Amaurot, the primary biological research colony being called "Elpis", and main general research facility being called "Akadaemia Anyder," and so on... And if you know where I'm getting these names, then you are a person of culture. ;) I don't see why they wouldn't at least let you name the outposts, since you can give custom names to your CAMPs in Fallout 76....
@norespawns
@norespawns Год назад
id be very suprised if they dont add renaming tbh, considering currently they have default names such as 'outpost 1'

Unless Camps for 76 got WAY bigger after launch, the Outposts in Starfield will be absolutely massive in comparison. I think the radius from the Beacon is 100m. So a 200m diameter; about 656ft for those in the US. It's enough room for multiple habitats, extractors, storage facilities, power stations, a landing pad for your spaceship, and room to spare for other stuff.

I loved base building in Fallout 4, I know a lot of people hated it, but I loved it. What I really want is for the game to give me a reason to build bases (yes plural) I would like to have a reason to build one on this planet (some resource unique to this planet that actually has utility/value that makes setting up a base to acquire that resource worth while...) and on that planet, and another on that one... I know some people just like the have "houses" but I like bases to do something for me, give me some reason to construct them. Eve Online lets you construct bases, to say process ore, and you can invest in "improvements" that make processing ore faster, or more efficient, you can also open them up to other players to use (for a fee) so the base can make you side money. I know that Starfield wont be an MMO, but what if NPC's could land at your base and buy things from your "shop" or use you ore processor or stay at your "inn" for a fee, so many possibilities. Maybe implementing all of them is impossible, but I love for a "base" to have an actual purpose and base "management" to be a thing. I know a lot of you hate that idea, so, if you don't want to manage it yourself you could assign an NPC to do it for you for salary of course. None of this matters I suppose, what I want isn't going to change anything, but I wanted to chime in anyway, here's hoping base building is fun, but also useful.

I loved No Man's Sky a lot. It lacked a deep story that you could interact with. I'm hoping that Starfield will take the best things about NMS and mix it with RPG. If Bethesda does this right I'm going to dump a lot of hours into Starfield.

I just really hope we can establish our own space stations. Sure outposts are nice, and I look forward to building one on every single one of the 1k planets with each one having their own theme, but I really want to be able to build an outpost in space itself, so that I could have my very own Citadel from Mass Effect, or just a refueling station for myself, or a docking hub so that I can store my stolen ships, and the list goes on. Don't forget being able to establish outposts at sea, as there will no doubt be planets that are entirely ocean, and I know we will likely be able to build underwater outposts on them, but being able to build something like Kamino has in the water would be amazing. Let's also not forget we need to be able to do something on the gas giants, as with any realistic or semi realistic space game, they have to be included, and I think i'm not the only one who would like to be able to establish an outpost on them. I just really hope Bethesda has gone all out with making the outpost system as deep as it should be for a space exploration game at what is close to the beginning of the expanse into the stars, but no doubt if any of what I desire is lacking modders will implement it, as these are all some pretty big things that I am surely not the only one to desire.
@cdeford
@cdeford Год назад
Modders need things to mod, so you don't want the base game to have too much extra stuff. As long as there's a way to mod it in it's better to have as blank a canvas as possible.

Have you played No Man's Sky? The building here is SO similar, down to the domed greenhouse structure you would find in NMS. I'm not sure flat foundations with nothing on them will make a lot of sense in this context because if it is like NMS the point of the habitat is to be indoors where you have a breathable atmosphere and are safe from unsafe weather conditions. Thanks for this video! You're my favorite FO4 builder and I can't wait to see how you do in Starfield. Will you be doing ship build videos too? I think that will be a lot of fun to see what can be done there.

Wonder if we'll be restricted to modules or if we'll get separate walls, floors, ceilings, like in FO? Still, looks interesting and honestly the modular concept should make it "just work". No need for rug glitches, etc. Maybe? Definitely looking forward to this one and seeing what you do with it! I still enjoy FO4, all the mods (especially Sim Settlements) have just given it so much replayability.
@deozeo4442
@deozeo4442 Год назад
The most insane aspect of FO4 was the settlement creations and Preston Garvey. How irritating was it to be in the middle of a mssion and the message " Failed to come to BFE rescue". Or drop on a settlement to find crops, water pumps, turrets destroyed, settlers dead and no enemy... no heads up? The best work around was to avoid Bonehead Garvey initially and not do settlement building. Yet that is not exactly how the devs saw the game progression to flow. Grrrrrrrr

ill be very much looking forward to some of building videos for this .... the whole game so far is a bit of a mixed bag for me. I'm trying not to watch to much stuff about the game but mainly to mitigate disappointment. but when i saw you posted about the building side i had to give it a watch, and ive got to say I'm a little disappointed by their base game offerings regarding building, considering building a settlement is very much a part of the core game play of recent Bethesda games, maybe they omitted the bulk of what there is to build with to surprise us but again considering this was part of the BIG reveal show case thing and they been at this for what 25 years lol , I'm of a mind where this is it and everything else will come as part a "well if you want it to look pretty your gonna have to pay for a DLC after youve just dropped 70+ quid already" deal, i was expecting some dlc for building side but based on what ive seen, they have given us bare minimum from base game, which leads me to question do i buy this day one or do i just wait and see what comes later on, so i dont have to restart the game over and over every time new dlc comes out so i can get things to look good. considering its bugstheda ( its not a bug its a feature lol ) and how the lord of lies Todd it just works Howard has duped us all in the past with his honeyed words lol i am defiantly leaning to the wait and see side when i used to be that guy who sat whooping in his chair when the trailers dropped and queued up to buy a midnight release. ( foundation to tall thing just urks me like why is there not a foundation support so i can put the thing where i want ! 25 yrs in the making but forgot that glaring detail

I'm finding it hard to be entertained by base building in Starfield as I've already spent hundreds of hours doing this in Fallout 4 with hundreds of mods and new game assets. Here's what happens: you spend a lot of time building your base hoping it will look cool, once you "finish" you assign people to the base, the base collects resources for you... then you're done. That's all. There's nothing more to do. You'll occasionally visit the base to see how things are going but there's absolutely positively nothing else to be mesmerized about this gameplay loop.

I had an absolute blast base building in Fallout 4, of course I ignored their actual needs and turned the camps into walled fortresses brimming with turrets and armed guards. Crazy to think I started watching your videos back in the early days of Fallout 4 where I learned the rug glitch from you. That takes me back to when I used to play on an Xbox One.
