Sir; my hat off to you. As I playing STO; and am over 50. Seen the Star Trek O.S. on reruns, watched Star Trek the Motion Picture in a damn drive-in. Watched a plethora of Trek videos over the years. THIS IS BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST TREK VIDEOS I HAVE EVER HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF WATCHING. My respect, and admiration sir. Thank you for a smile, and laugh. It's hard for someone my age.
Unfortunately it's default design makes it look like a spoon with Nacelles. I don't know why they would even bother to have that when the other variation is far superior.
@@GESSO217 The ship looks like a spoon from an angle, all other points of view it looks like a battle ship while looking starfleet. Beats the flying bus with the 4 nascelles.
I've always felt that Starfleet is vastly more advanced than they let on, the Federation has a society that fosters cooperation and sharing of knowledge. Starfleet does just enough to see off the latest threat and keeps the appearance of parity with its adversaries.
It’s about time that the Federation has a battle cruiser and a battle cruiser fleet. I think it’s overdue. With all the federation had to deal with over the centuries I think it’s a little too late for the battle cruiser but I’m glad it’s here. It would’ve made perfect sense for the Federation to build a battle cruiser ship during the Dominion war or even the war with the Borg. But I’m glad they have it now. I wished Paramount plus would explore the 25th century. You’re doing a good job with the new Pike series. I’d like to see them go into the immediate future after the events of Jean-Luc Picard season three.
@Ministry Of Holiness it would be a LIE if it wasn't....it was unofficially apart of the anti borg line of ships, Lets not forget Sovereign class survived an encounter against the scimitar, and honestly I would not owe that completely to plot armor. There was some but that ship took a total beating
@@shanenolan8252 honestly the galaxy and nebula were Always battleships their issue was they weren’t fully armed. The war refits are mostly just ships with upgraded equipment and all space being used efficiently. Pretty sure the large spacious rooms are STILL there as well.
@@SuperGamefreak18 yes believe the war build one's and new engines, shields improved weapons and galaxy served as a carrier or fleet support vessel and where often build with the science section or civil compartment unfinished. With extra weapon and probably extra shields. I have read somewhere that this major refitt, was four time as powerful as the original galaxy class vessels. With upgraded technology from newer ships . ( intriped , anti borg ect ) and quantom torpedoes, and could carry twice as many torpedoes. ( probably half and half ) and the latest photon torpedoes seen on ds9 wete far better that tng sean one torpedoes. ( but yes even before she was a peactime battle cruiser. I remember in yesterday enterprise Picard called her a battleship
@@michaelsasylum you can to a t5x...but your better off jsut getting the Arbiter (the t6 Avenger), supposedly its trait is one of the best in the game.
I always found the Avenger-class to look like "What if we took the design aesthetics of the Odyssey/Ent-F and the Intrepid class\Voyager and they had a warp mutated lizard ship baby in the Delta quadrant, and This ship is what it would be! Also thanks for pointing out the Akira's twin boom design influence as well on there. She was my fav for a long time, Usually named USS Amon Amarth and was FUN. I might whip one up and try it again though I'm currently funning around on new miranda class types. With the pilot specialization officers slot that ship is Really Fun too!
I’ve used this ship in game and it’s easily one of my favorites. It’s tough looking and it’s definitely a brawler when kitted out right. One thing not mentioned in this video, with regard to the VATA weapon, is that the torpedo actually is actually much more versatile than explained. It will actually re-target the nearest enemy if its initial target is destroyed. As if that isn’t cool enough, the whole time it’s headed towards it’s target, it’s firing micro torpedoes as well. Yeah. A torpedo that fires torpedoes. It’s really one of my favorites. Couple that with a decent Avenger build and you’re clearing space pretty easily.
Yeah she's a beast if you kit her right and don't mind putting her right up front in the thickest fighting. Good skills and she's a brtue that will hold the line and hammer the enemy into submission.
I raise you one Alita Strike Wing Escort. It's my fav of the Fed Escorts [really love the Akira], not to mention an absolute monster of burst damage with the full Heavy Escort Modifications set and Quantum Warhead Module...when you see their shields drop, hit them with about 16 torpedoes to the face, counting my high yield 3 quantums xD
@@toryunaminosaki1022 I do like the Alita for what it is, but I’m just not a carrier guy. For me, my go-to escort right now is the Mirror Universe Adamant. I love not being tied to the stealth fighter set for the battle cloak (although I still use the warhead module and agony quad phaser cannons and repeating warhead launcher. Kitted right, you decloak, outflank, bitchslap, recloak. Rinse and repeat if necessary. I have yet to kit for PVP but I think it’s could be nasty there too. One tactic I’ve been playing with that shows promise is actually equipping the VATA weapon as well and launching it at the last second so that it auto targets the next guy as the original target gets vaped. I’ll cloak, come around while the VATA softens the new target. Then I’ll decloak and finish him off. I can run through 5-6 targets before the VATAs finally smash into the last guy.
@@JosephKinney I run SRUs in the hanger slot with the eng boff construction shuttle wing, gives me nice survivability without sacrificing that much damage. But I'm currently working on getting enough Lobi for the NX Refit, love the look and wish Ent lasted a little longer so we could see it on screen
I Love this more practical and Battle ready Design. Starfleet Ships in The past looked very thin and vulnerable especially the constitution Class. The Avenger has a Design looking very sturdy and could Withstand Couple of Torpedo Hits even without shields. If i'm an officer or crewman on this Ship, i would feel really Safe. 👍
Nothing about this design is practical and battle ready. It's all art design here. Thicc Boi means girth and battle ready! Nope. There are still exposed nacelles, exposed impulse drives, windows galore and it's fat and massive. That would mean realistically within the 'technobabble' of Trek lore, either the ship is made of feather weight super duper secret alloys or it has super duper secret top the line impulse engines with never before seen RCTs for manuvering. Thicc Boi could have armored up but with the windows everywhere, I doubt it. That's not practical to have all those port holes everywhere where you'd want to armor the 'citadel' equivalent. This is a ship designed by Fisher Price. It's not battle ready, it's 'Child Safe'.
@@Nurhaal - agreed. The Defiant is the go-to for Starfleet warship design. It has hardly any windows, the nacelles and impulse exhausts are pulled into the armoured nacelle cowlings, even the torpedo launchers, sensors and deflector are covered by armour. I could make a battlecruiser that took those elements but it would look very different to the Avenger class. And would probably have pulse phaser and quantum torpedo turrets.
He says in the video that it's got deployable ablative armor... Voyager "Endgame" style. The nacelle supports are massive. It carries ridiculously powerful weaponry. It carries tons of support staff and has room for scientific work... often a rather integral part of war and its products, that. It fits the Starfleet aesthetic, so makes a fitting flag seat. Nurhaal in particular seems not to have listened to the video. Nagillim might not have either.
My Avenger looking Inquiry class is the USS Begbie. Jumping around the galaxy, finding large crowds and jumping in demanding to know who spilled my pint. Gloriously violent little ship.
I like seeing Starfleet design and build a ship primarily to *destroy anything that opposes it.* As dedicated as they are to exploration and science, we've seen that sometimes they really need to bust out a super-badass monster of destruction (or even better, a fleet of them) when war comes knocking and won't go away quietly.
I’ve always felt that DS9 used the Defiant properly, as in it didn’t have it’s own crew, but instead was assigned to an outpost, and was only crewed as needed by those assigned to the outpost. The Avenger class could do the same, but for Starbases, which of course had far more Star fleet personnel available
This is my main ship and fly her 99% of the time, a Fleet Battle Cruiser T6X using the Arbiter hull and pylons with the Avenger saucer and nacelles (no fins). I love it. And FINALLY a vid look at the ship. Out of the box, she looks like scrunched Odyssey.
The Avenger looks AWESOME!! I'd love to see it on screen!! That said, can we take a moment to talk about the Earth Space Dock?!?!? A structure *SO LARGE* that multiple full-sized starships can fit inside!!!! Seems to me, it should be able to fitted with enough weapons to provide a strong defense for Earth, and a serious deterrent to any bold enough to come within range!!
I LOVE my Inquiry. Got it running a Polaron Cannon build, bolstered with Narrow Sensor Bands and Mixed Armaments Synergy, with Energy Overdrive as one of my Starship Traits, and a LOT of shield bleedthrough. I use it as a sharpshooter against bigger ships.
One of my fave Star Trek PC games of ALL TIME, was the wonderful "Birth of the Federation", based on the highly venerated Master Of Orion II game. You could play as one of 5 Races/Empires, Star Fleet, Klingon, Romulan, Ferengi and Cardassian, each with unique and complimentary ship designs, as well as "special attributes" specific to each empire (i.e. Romulan had the best spies). Absolutley loved that game and for its' time, the ship battles were incredibly well detailed and controllable. The game also enabled you to conquer other well known minor systems/peoples and species, fight some of the more famous "monsters" from Trek (i.e. Crystal Entity) and of course, eventually face off against The Borg, which like the Antarrans from MOO 2, grew stronger in later game system invasions. For those who love the nostalgia of playing a game strongly referenced on "The Next Generation" shows, this is HIGHLY recommended! 🤩
For several years this was the only federation cruiser that could reliably use dual cannons, and was the perfect platform for the build i had on the Vor'cha, KDF side, with its high turn rate for a cruiser and high momentum just like the Vor'cha, if you build to give it a good bit of speed its capable of pulling off power slides to make dual cannon volleys, it can then easily swing back the way it was moving, or change direction rapidly.
Seems on par with a fan design of mine, & good video... As for those overtly critical gate-keepers at the air-lock, go out an inspect the exterior of the station & No you do not Need environmental suits for this EVA... I insist...
It does feel like they drew some inspiration from the Intrepid-class, too, judging by the shape of the saucer and the positioning of the deflector dish. I think the entire hull has ablative armor, though, with additional heavy armor deploying whenever the ship goes to red alert, for added protection. Makes me wish I had the time and computer processing power to play ST:O, just so I could play with this ship. 🙂
My opinion is that if Starfleet is going to have a "battle cruiser", the design should be as different from your standard Starfleet vessel as possible. That's why I like the design of the Khitomer Alliance Battlecruiser over the Avenger class. In fact, can you do a video on the Khitomer Alliance Battlecruiser?
That thing really isn't that good and the visual esthetic is horrible! Hell, the only one of the 3 Alliance vessels that I even like is the KDF/RRW hybrid. But to each their own. If you enjoy it good for you, but they really dropped the ball on it in my opinion.
@@Stronghand-yw1lk I'm just saying that if you are going to have a Starfleet "battlecruiser", the ship shouldn't look like every other Starfleet ship in the fleet. My point? Be unique. At least the Defiant class looks different enough to live up to its name.
I have her, served me well. I prefer my Endeavour now because it's an actual battleship and I don't have to worry about maneuvering in something that is twice the Avenger's mass and length
It looks a tough little ship however, I feel that it should have a pair of structural support pillars blending from both sides of the deflector dish into the saucer section. The two flat cut offs where the neck finished and inverse section of the saucer section just look like it's missing something which would greatly improve the design and strength of the ship.
3:45 There was once, a VERY long time ago, a Game called Lightspeed. For the time (late 1980's) they had 3 types of strike craft, that you could deploy from your "mother ship." There was a fighter, a torpedo, and a kamikaze, which was basically a "fighter" sized torpedo, aka they took the fighter chassis, took out all the weapons and just filled it with boom. The unique draw to this was you could set it to auto ram the nearest target or you could pilot the silly thing yourself albeit remotely, and this included the smallest torpedo's. As the years and decades went on, I noted this absence in space combat ever since, every time, being annoyed that the torpedoes were fire and forget only. I had been sooooo spoiled by that one game. I'm glad through V.A.T.A. this is finally making a comeback.
Most of my characters in STO spend at least some time in the Arbiter (for the trait unlock), but a few of my characters fly kitbashes of the Arbiter's hull, nacelles, and pylons with the Avenger's Saucer. Interestingly, there's also a much darker, "Avenger," material in game. Something I really like about the Arbiter and Avenger is (what appears to be), the "indexed," shuttle bay. Along with (to a lesser degree) the Aventine class, it's something you almost never see on Federation ships, but it would mean the ship could retrieve and launch shuttles in combat, while being able to shield the strike craft from enemy fire. Also, a minor nitpick, it doesn't have a cloaking device as standard equipment. When it was originally introduced to the game it was one of the few ships that could be outfitted with a cloaking device (Along with the Galaxy-X, and Defiant,), though that restriction was removed in a patch earlier this year, meaning now you can stick the cloaking device on any ship you want.
I got it when it was introduced eons ago. Loved it then, and grabbed the T6 Arbiter and used the Avenger skin for it. Nasty little 5/3 ship. Haven't used it for awhile, got hold of a Verne and went full Space Wizzard.
My absolute favorite Federation ship. No matter what new ship I got, I always found myself flying the Avenger again. Even after I got the arbiter class, I still went and gave it the Avenger rework. I think the avenger class is one of the best designs as far as looks perfectly explaining purpose. Everything about that ship just says "Ready to fight".
Last comment because I like being an anorak, neither shields nor structural integrity fields prevent you from being jam on a bulkhead, inertial dampeners do that via the deflector dish, integrity fields prevent the ship from sagging under its own weight in variant gravitational conditions and act to strengthen the hull overall, the ship and people for example would be fine going to warp without them but without inertial dampeners they would all be jam at 10% of impulse. Michael Okuda's books age 12 have a lot to answer for.
Your videos are well explained about Star trek vessels. Future star trek vessels in Future television series to come to seeing what Star trek looks beyond the 26 century.
I got this ship in game and also out of game, I bought the ship when it was released on Hero collectors and sits next to the Defiant, definitely my 2 favourites
I truly love your Sass. Soooo refreshing to hear such. ^~^ Take no prisoners. I truly like this design. It fixes that god awful fly through neck of the Odyssey class.
Have you thought about doing Audible Book Narration? I’d used my credits on books if you narrate them just like this video. Quick, witty, and full of inflection.
I love this ship. As far as would I pilot/command it… My main character has an Avenger and Arbiter class in his mini fleet of ships. Right next to my Defiant class…
@@KatsuRyu I went from one of those with the stealth fighter set to the Adamant. Absolutely no regrets. And I loved that ship. I just always felt it could use just a tiny bit more something here and there and this switch essentially delivered that. Right away, the built in battle cloak eliminated my need for the stealth fighter set (which was primarily what I used it for)
I seem to recall that Star Fleet always had a Dreadnaught Class ship.... If I'm not mistaking, this was the first ship class that employed the 3 Warp Nacelles.
I'd like to see something like that revamped to have all the capabilities of the Prometheus. That would be like having your own all-in-one battle fleet.
It was ment to be used to fight the iconians and borg exclusively as I do have one lol I used it to finish the game the first time around, I currently use a massive temporal ship and a carrier which I love
Other than the Enterprise D, it is the ONLY practically designed federation ship with external nacelles. All the other ships have very weak structural designs. The Defiant has nacelles incorporated into the fuselage, so I am not counting it.
I agree, The Avenger is a beast of a ship. Though, i am curious, about the Progression of starship classes from The Sovereign Class, through through the Odyssey class leading to the Avenger Class, and beyond...?
Amazing that they can take the same design language, tweak it with fins, reset windows, and angle of the nacelles and turn it into any manner of space ship they desire.
I always thought that the Sovereign already fulfills this role, but I guess games gotta game. That said, Sci Fi tends to throw the term around but originally, a Battlecruiser was meant to hunt down and win against Cruisers, using it's speed and maneuverability instead of Battleship armor but having the same weaponry.
Even though this ship is a battlecruiser, I appreciate the design team's effort to keep it looking like a Starfleet vessel. It is still a nice looking ship, and I like the 2400s designs and paint schemes of white with black detailing. I think that as eras move along through two turn of the centuries, there should be noticable stylistic differences that visually define them. I don't play Star Trek Online because I don't care for Star Trek as a constant series of wars, which I feel betrays the whole point of Star Trek. I understand why they do it, though, because it adds lots of playability to the game. Still, I have come to really love some of these ship designs, so much so that when they get canonized in Star Trek Picard, I think it is really cool. It is actually a nice show of respect to the designers of the game that these ships are worthy for use in the shows. No one should get upset over canon, though, because it is easy enough to choose which one you prefer to be the real universe and the other to be an alternative universe. Who cares what you are told has to be, just run with whatever you like best!🙂
