Starfleet's Defence Cruiser! - Norway Class - Star Trek Starships Explained 

As a norwegian, I say we need to see more of those ships.

The best part of the Norway class is you can always give the order to warp with "go fjord!"

Never clicked on a video faster! Norway Class is one of my favourites and its so underrated and underused!

That empty void in between those nacelle struts looks like it was purpose-built to hold a variety of mission modules. I can imagine that those mission modules were due to arrive next Tuesday when the Borg inconveniently attacked and the call to arms meant that any of the Norways involved in the Battle of Sector 001 were there bereft of said modules in a time when they may have proven to be the most useful...

This ship is a delight. I hope we see her again one day.

You cant do a feature on the Norway class without mentioning the Squadron Star Trek fan films, set on Norway class ships. The CGI and design are excellent.

It needs a "minor refit" to fill in the space between the split warp struts so they are a solid single piece. Perhaps a oblong mission module or similar?

I just noticed that one of the ships at the Battle of Sector 001 got destroyed when it was caught in the blast from the exploding cube.

I captain one of these in Star Trek Online. She can take one hell of a beating and dish it out. Funnily enough, I packed so much stuff into the ship for tanking (keep in mind, they classify her as an escort in STO) that she's able to hang with the dreadnoughts and battlecruisers people bring to the table.

loved the video. I have seen a couple of videos where it was suggested that the Norway class could be used as a freighter in it's civilian life. The space between the nacelles being used to hold cargo modules. Much like the Millileum(?) Falcon.

IIRC back when it was first shown that gap in the rear was supposed to be for mission specific modules, just never followed up on.

I'm a a fan of the Norway class! More of them!

In the video game Star Trek: Starfleet Command III, it was stated that a Norway-class starship had a crew complement of 337 personnel three passengers and fourteen dependents. It also appeared in Star Trek: Legacy as a playable starship class.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Norway class feature on the screen again. It's a shame the files probably got corrupted.

Fantastic ship design, easily in my top 3. Check out Squadron if you haven't already. This is one of the few classes I would readily believe can land.

This is the only Borg buster ship that I don't like - it looks like a flattened out iron & the nacelle struts are too weird. I appreciate you doing a video, though!

Uh oh. the size comparison chart mistakenly lists the Enterise E as a Galaxy class ship rather than a Sovereign class.

Im not sure if this has been covered elsewhere or not. In the second of the Kelvin timeline movies we hear mention of a Dreadnought and Manowar class starship. Given that these ships aren't just concept but a Dreadnought is complete and captained by Pete Weller we can assume they are secret but not exactly new. Are these ships ever mentioned outside the Kelven ti.eline because it would really change the dynamic of the series if they are series canon.

This is another one of those classes that would look a ton better if flipped upside down!..

I was about to say that there is no way that the Norway class should be classified as a Cruiser, since it's clearly designed to be a lighter warship. She even has a configuration similar to the Loknar-class Frigate FFS! But under modern classification, the Norway class more than exceeds the length and weight in metric tons of modern Cruisers (or what few remains)!!! But even still, it is about half the length of a typical front-line ship (Galaxy, Sovereign), and I doubt that the Norway class would classify as a top tier ship class. I'm tempted to classify them as Frigates, because they are clearly meant as fast support ships, but the size comparison hints at a medium-sized ship. There is a reason that the space between the catamarans are there, and that is to save weight that would make it a heavier ship. That, and they'd be easier and faster to produce. I'd even argue that she is literally a Destroyer hull with warp nacelles strapped on. I mean, it's possible Starfleet could come up with additional classifications (and probably would), but you can only do so much until it becomes too confusing. As far as production goes: these should have been one of the most numerous warship-capable designs in Starfleet's arsenal (along with the Defiant class), replacing the Miranda class as the premier support warship, since most military forces depend on Frigates and Destroyers to make up the bulk of their forces. For every Heavy Cruiser or Battleship analog, there should be about four of these. They should be everywhere: patrolling Federation space, escorting sensitive convoys in contested space, busting pirates, you name it. Everyone would be able to identify them right away, because they'd be a common sight. The Oslo class (which is in need of a redesign BTW) would take over production in 2379. There is no way that the Norway class would have been taken out of service by 2401. They are just too useful, and even if we went by the registry of the prototype (64-something if I recall), and said that they were first introduced in 2364, it doesn't seem too farfetched for a 40 year old class to still be around, when we see the Akiras (built roughly around the same time) and a Shangri-La/Constitution class still hanging in there.

Why had starfleet tachial no though of add ing a mirenda class roll bar or akira class tactial torpedeo roll bar between the 2 norways aft warp nacelle pilons struts

I'm a big fan of the Valdres in STO. A tough little ship with a hangar bay of Valkyrie fighters and the Mjolnir experimental weapon. It's the t6 version of the Norway. Although the regular Norway is a much better ship IMO

There are at least a hundred fans of Star Trek and Svenghoolie who want a Norway class named the Berwyn. This I know.

It's definitely not a defense cruiser in Star Trek Online. It's a strike wing escort and pretty offensive in nature.😂

Great name for a class, but for me, it is not an attractive vessel. Definitely not like the more attractive Sovereign, Akira, or Nebula classes

Maybe use a subtle watermark instead of the blinding white graphics that take the viewer out of the fantasy of what's happening on the main screen. The pop-up interaction reminders were also quite annoying.

It's disappointing to see the impulse engines on these SH Nu style ships going overboard in their layouts and numbers. Impulse engines are not direct thrust like thrusters. They are supposed to use subspace to improve their performance so that you don't need so many. Essentially they reduce the mass of the ship so the thrust to mass ratio is more favorable. So if you slap 6 massive impulse engines onto a ship with their respective driver coils you can in theory treat her like a jet fighter instead of a cruiser... And that just looks wrong when you have to present the visual language of ship movement and the visual language of shuttlecraft movement.

I don’t mean to be cruel, but I find the accent so hard to follow. If you would speak more slowly and keep in mind your speech impediment makes it hard to understand you when you speak so quickly, it would help. Is it just your accent, or do you find the letter “r” hard to pronounce? Please slow down, take a breath, and enunciate.
