But, yeah it didn't take them long to realize that (male) fans don't have any problems whatsoever with an *ACTUAL* strong female character who doesn't wear booty shorts and a tank top.

@@1acroyear1 If I remember correctly, it was actually Amanda Tapping herself who found the "Just because my genitals are on the inside..." stuff to be annoying and asked for it to be toned down because it made her character annoying.

Too be fair, she was a bit of a Mary Sue. Best and brightest in her field, atleast on Earth and always prevailing any challenge when the need arises.

She would be no better then him if she did. She showed mercy which makes her better then him. From there he was defeated by a woman women now had claimed their rights thanks to Carter.

"Strong" and "independent" are code words for "likes to bitch" and "doesn't like to listen" respectively. If you ever come across a woman who describes herself like that run away. Carter is not and has never shown herself to be anything like that. Captain (now Colonel) Carter is an illustration that women can (just as men *always must* ) achieve their goals in a meritocracy without deferential treatment. I believe this is why guys like women like Colonel Carter, Kara Thrace and Ellen Ripley. They carry their own weight and don't request special treatment, but they won't bitch you out if you pull out a chair or open the door for them either.

Yup, that's true. And out of the three you mentioned I find Carter most appealing.

@@1acroyear1 most of the 'female power' movies and scenes are stupid and ridiculous. But here it comes across much more realistically, since Sam is highly trained in modern military combat and she's fighting an arrogant primitive who grossly underestimates her.

@@rwalper Completely agree. She's not the secret heir to some awesome power. She's not possessed of some hidden strength that's being suppressed by unfair forces. She's not The Chosen One. She's not just plainly head and shoulders above everyone around her. She's taken her lumps and earned her stripes and doesn't take victory as a given. That's why she and the pitifully few true strong women in fiction are so loved- whether they're in sweaty underwear or not.
