know their was an episode mentioning that they became wise enought to see the asgard in their true form. THis would be explaining why all the Aleins look human like its not their true form
"You know, we have satellites and telescopes that can see things like spaceships." "Our ships have never been detected in orbit around Earth before." "Huh...alright..." I fucking miss Stargate, man.
*three seasons later:* _randomly porting in and out of SG-1 during UN Security Council meetings like the next door neighbor nicking your beer_ SUP BITCHES WHAT'S GOOD
Lol! I've almost finished SGU now and through it all, my favorite thing to mumble any time anyone got into Stargate related trouble has always been, "Y'all need an iris."
NightRunner417 one thing I never got with SGU is why the ship planted gates without a dhd? Also why the remote dialers they carried from destiny were never found later in the Milky Way or Pegasus galaxies. Would help to dial out while on the run to the gate. The handheld dialer does plug one plothole in Sg-1 CotG’s when you clearly see the gate is deactivated behind Apophis. Later its active again. If Apophis had one of those handhelds easy fix.
@@2bituser569 I guess there's no canon explanation, but perhaps they wanted the Destiny gate network as a "private" network, only usable by Destiny crew members. Given that they are crossing countless galaxies, having them open to anyone to exploit without spending hundreds of years studying the lifeforms in that galaxy is a security risk, or unethical. The Pegasus and Milkyway networks are meant to be a kind of public transport, by comparison. As for Apophis, we know from later seasons they have Goa'uld that are experts in Gate technology, and they know how to exploit them. They could have made their own remote DHDs. Of course that establishes far more plot holes if you dare think about it. Where were the Goa'uld installed irises? I suppose they send a MALP through each time so SG1 isn't at risk, but SG1 still arrived at secret bases all the time.
What I miss about this show is that it never revealed everything. The Asgard were just as mysterious and interesting in season 10 as they were in season 3.
Compare to the Aliens franchise where the entire premise of them being 'alien' has been eliminated now we've told they're a bio-weapon developed by an Earth-built android using an ancient alien bio-weapon and DNA splicing with alien wasps... There's no mystery left.
@@DomWeasel should have just shown the engineers creating them I believe David and alien is just recreating them and isn't really the true creator of the species honestly you can still answer the questions and keep it a mystery only if there's more questions to be answered I also wish the xenomorphs were still mysterious because ever since seen the ship on LV 426 I always imagine what its connection was to the xenomorph since it looked just like they do especially the pilot I knew they had a been the creators of the species because both biomechanical Way beyond coincidence and plus with how does xenomorphs are there is no possible way that can be naturally existing there was always something out of place about them that could not be naturally possible which all leads to the point and the impression they were manufactured as living bio weapons which completely fits the whole theme of the xenomorph especially since Wayland yutin always wanted control of them for their bio weapons division.
Because the story was told from the perspective of a small military unit instead of having everything spelled out like Babylon 5. Once you've finished watching the televised franchise you can have a lot of fun re-watching early SG1 episodes and speculating how each new planet visited fit into the Ancient civilisation.
Colonel o Neil has to be one of the best MC's ever written In a TV show. He wasn't special. He didn't have hidden talents. All he had was a good team behind him, friends and alliances to help out, and a relentless positive attitude.
To be fair while he was no Gary Stu/Mary Sue he did have some hidden talents and was special. He was smarter then he let on and with the Ancient gene he could interface with Ancient tech whereas a majority of people could not. Not to mention the Asgard thought he might have been a bit more advanced then other humans hence why they tried to use his DNA to solve their cloning problem creating the mini-O'Neill that sadly was forgotten about.
@@akmi1931 he did not hate smart people. He hated pretencious people. By the way the Asgard thought he could solve their problems, but with that ultimately failing he is not a never was the special one. He was an ordinary officer, just a little brighter and toughter than others, but also kind and humble. What a great rolemodel O'Neill was.
Jack was overwhelmed at being chosen to represent all of earth in the negotiations with the Ga'ould and I can understand why. After all, he was only a Colonel in the Air Force, just a military man without any political skills. The Asgard really should have chosen a high ranking civilian politician with extensive experience in diplomacy and negotiation to deal with this. Someone like Senator Kinsey. As an experienced politician Senator Kinsey would have ... he would have ... uh ... yeah ... okay Jack, handle it!!!!
I mean technically all officers have to have a degree of politicking skill otherwise they tend not to advance far in times of peace. I get O'Neill was special forces so he probably could have bypassed that requirement by extraordinary feats in battle but still he wouldn’t be totally ignorant.
LordOmnissiah moving up to General and through General ranks require politics. Its a shame they never officially showed Hammond having a third star ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️. He was promoted to same job as O’Neill was in last seasons and Jack got a second ⭐️ ⭐️.
@@TalkingHands308 Yup. It feels like they tried to do a Battlestar Galactic, darker version of Stargate and it just didn't work. What really peeves me is that they canceled Atlantis to go with that garbage.
@@AnthonyJ504 Yes, seriously. It was like they thought getting all "edgy" and whatever was going to attract the new young crowd but instead just alienated the already set fanbase...
I’ve done the whole box set 3 times. Did the Amazon episodes many times more, sporadically watching all my favs over and over. Universe sucked. Really liked Atlantis, but disliked that they stopped it early for Universe. I’m optimistic about what I hear is a new show coming soon, 2022 I believe.
0:19 “Never been detected in orbit around Earth before” Technically correct; it was mere three episodes later (Point of View), that the radar views in -SGC- SGA very confidently showed the approaching Asgard ship (albeit in a parallel universe).
Could it maybe be that the last time the asgard were at earth was... Well a long time age when the most sophisticated detection systems were... Binoculars at best
Ah yes, the Stargate of yesteryear. When General Hammond was in command, O'Neil couldn't say five words without four of them heading in a smartass direction, Thor was a new thing, Teal'c was super shiny and Teal'c-hair was still well off the radar, and the Goa'uld were _super_ annoying. Edit: I whoopsed and spelled O'Neill's name with one L. It's 'O'Neill', with two L's. Fun fact - There's another Colonel O'Neil with only one L, and he has no sense of humor at all.
The O'Neil with one L having no sense of humor is a bit of a dig at Kurt Russel. His character only had one L in the name and also didn't have much of a sense of humor in the film heh
@@Arkalius80 Granted, he was basically a wreck at that point. First shot of him we see is where he is bawing his eyes out after his son had died. Whole mission was basically him looking an excuse to die and not giving two shits who dies with him, until Daniel got trough to him. If you think about, the whole smartass O'neill of the series becomes much more tragic figure, because it looks like he has developed that sense of humor to help him cope.
Its not woke enough. In “Stargate Awakens” Carter gets to yell at Hammond without repercussions, everything is the patriarchy fault, and Daniel is Danielle.
There are still gems. You have to shift your focus. Although I understand when you don't want to. After all, when ugliness encroaches, willful ignorance hurts the heart. And yet, we have to fight for the light, not against the darkness. Where attention goes, energy flows. ... Choose your battles wisely.
It's more that the Asgard (as they were written at the time) put their trust in deeds & not perceptions of importance like rank & public perception. Thor trusted Jack because he personally had witnessed his worth & knew he was trust worthy, he had no other options as the other humans he knew of either he knew couldn't be trusted or he just didn't have enough experience with, after that his trust in Jack specifically was fortified when he was found to have a very high level of ancient DNA making him even closer to their old ally then they'd seen in 1000s of years. Later Thor showed the same trust for the rest of SG1 & Hamond, Daniel even had a nice new science ship named after him for his achievement in reaching ascension, a feat the Asgard were incapable of.
An advanced alien race, capable of "beaming" directly into the most secured parts of Cheyenne Mountain... interstellar FAST ship travel... weapons almost unimaginable... ALL that OP intelligence... and STILL they come to the conclusion that O'Neill is their guy???
''The Asgard will attempt to negotiate with the Goa'uld System Lords to include Earth in the Protective Planet Treaty.'' ''...That's a good thing, right?''
Sure, you will be safe from (our) attacks, and in return there will only be some austerity measures and structural adjustment projects. ... Do you have a global central bank yet?
@Paul Pugh and there weren't that many of them as well although I'd guess that they might also have smaller ships for more mundane purposes which would put the number over 100 but not much higher.
Their military ships are also crazy huge. Given the low population, and how fast they travel, and being able to travel via star gates on top.... wouldn't need many. Although, it's possible smaller personally-owned ships were more common. For recreational travel & scientific research.
@@Nick-jb4xi did they even have personal ships or belongings in general? Not sure if the modern Asgard have the same concept of personal stuff we do or if it's all managed by their council and so on. Don't know if they have recreational stuff either although there is of course the problem that whenever we meet them something is going to shit so we just would not have seen any side of the Asgard that is not research or their fleet regardless of if it even exists.
"Do we need security?" Yes, let's call some guys with rifles for the intergalactic alien that just teleported past all our other security, into the most secure facility on the planet, with zero effort or even having been there before. These are the guys your bullies are afraid of, be glad they like you.
It's really funny that Thor told Jack that he will be sent back then Thor leaves the room leaving jack alone and now confused on what way will he be sent back.
"Coronal, do we need security?" "Well sir, if we did, they wouldn't be much help against a dude who can beam in ands out at will. Imagine an A-10 sent back in time to 1066. Would any of the best solders in the world at that time be able to do a damn thing about it if said A-10 chose to support one side or the other? Or simply chose to wipe out both sides? "The A-10 is only about 1000 years more advanced that the Normans and Anglo-Saxons. Thor is more like several thousand times more advanced."
"Would any of the best soldiers in the world at that time be able to do a damn thing about it if said A-10 chose to support one side or the other?" Yes, they could draw out the A-10 then hide and keep doing that until the A-10 ran out of fuel. Good luck finding jet fuel in 1066.
@@mavoc3094 hold up there Neil Tyson, pretty sure the primitives would either see it as a god and leave it alone or think its a monster and leave it alone. we're talking about people who believed in magic and were the epitome of human superstition. Both armies would see it as a god killing their enemies and they wouldn't know what fuel was so they wouldn't realize to hold out till fuel ran out. The most realistic scenario is the armies would freeze while getting massacred, or they would crap their pants and run or maybe just keep fighting thinking the gods were supporting them. Not that even in the modern age you hear an A-10 and almost piss yourself knowing what it is, but put it in 1066 pretty confident the battle would be over. A great example is the first pilgrims fired their rifles scared the natives till they knew what it was and how it worked.
Actually, about 90 thousand years more advanced. Humans had about 10 thousand years of history. In SG:A its stated by the Asgard that they have about a hunded thousand years of history.
I would say I miss this show, but I have watched all 10 seasons of my collectors edition at least 4 times now. I think I have seen all 10 seasons a total of 7 times, when you include on air, and Amazon Prime. However, I do miss that there are no more worth while Stargate shows on air... yet. There is always hope for the Stargate universe.
Watched it through a few times myself. Fantastic show! Season one's a bit of a slog - as most 1st seasons are - but well worth sticking with. Excellent character development too. Got my fingers crossed for more Star Gate goodness in the future.
Yeah, there were not satellates at place before...i mean what was the last time the asgard visited? Over thousand years ago? (Not counting Loki who was unauthorized)
@@Cx10110100 If Loki's science vessel was undetected, pretty sure the military vessels would be undetected too. Hell, the ship is still not being detected by any of the "modern" satellites and sensors.
@@Cx10110100 Do you have any idea how big space is? Every telescope simultaneously looking up wouldn't be able to cover all of space. And I'm pretty sure the Asgard would have countermeasures against visual detection.
I love how in the beginnig asghards ( sorry for typo ) dropped in or beamed anyone from earth as they wished, but as sg1 got their respect in time and earth became more powerful, they stopped doing that
@@BYERE Hey.... THEY asked for someone dumber then them to solve their little.... "Replicator Fleet-Problem" :D So....... in my book that was done by their own actions ;)
Asgard could have build a secondary colony in our galaxy. Let all research about their cloning stay here safe from replicators. Maybee kidnap gou’uld leaders and replace them with clones with a different personality.
I really like how O'Neill, despite not always seeing eye to eye with Daniel, immediately recommends him and acknowledges his skills in comparison with Daniel's are less suited to the situation
It becomes a bit weird when you realize the voice of Thor is Michael Shanks. But I really love this scene... Well.. I love every scene of SG1, but Richards humor (with Peter, and all the writers ofc input/output) is so superb! Sci-fi with a bit of humor... I also love Orville ofc! and most of Sci-fi out there...
Thor: "With your permission, The Asgard will attempt to negotiate with the System Lords..." Hammond: But can we trust them? Trust them with what? Why? We're facing certain annihilation. Can really only go up from there, no matter their intentions. And either way, it's not like we could stop them.

I find it a bit interesting that Richard Dean Anderson does a great job playing O'Neill and always looks like he should, EXCEPT when he is in his formal military attire. It just sits wrong on him. I dunno what it is.
The friendship Earth had with the Asgard proved invaluable on many occasions, however the one exception is when Anubis tried to send an asteroid towards Earth and make it look like a "natural disaster" which it and of itself was a complete lie, and the Asgard refused to help them deflect it. Granted SG-1 did succeed in preventing their own annihilation but this two-sided way of doing things was completely ridiculous!
Daniel Jackson, The only linguist on staff who can't even pronounce the name of his mortal enemy. Goa'uld., it's really not that fucking difficult. It's only been been pronounced correctly by every alien species and every Jaffa including T'ealc almost every single episode. You'd think eventually it would be memorized after a while.
Thor says no human has ever detected a asgard ship in orbit before, bu someone is looking up in the sky could probably see the ship in orbit, especially something large as a asgard mothership, even in daylight.
@@ONEIL311 It's invisible to radars but lets say it parked near the ISS, someone looking out the window would see it. Or when it entered the atmosphere and turned in to a fireball, people could have see that.

What noone knew at the time, was the Asgard were bluffing the Goa'uld. They didn't have enough ships to engage them due to the war with the Replicators.
