Richard Dean Anderson was THE main reason Stargate SG1 was so successful for 8 seasons. (He wasn't much in the last 2 seasons so they don't count). He is so modest he would never say that he was the main reason for its success, but it's true. After he left the show, it went all downhill. And he looks great for someone his age and with his health situations. He was/is the handsomest man on the planet!

He is and always will be a legend. Everyone grows older but so what! I am glad he is still around because he is one of a kind. O'Neill was more RDA than anything. Always be a icon even when he's 90.

I think more than everything the characters made SG 1 compelling. Even today, where the looks of the show really not aged well, I like to watch the interaction between the protagonists.

I get very sad when i see my HEROES get old, and of course, not acting more in Their main roles. I feel as if the MOURNING. I feel dead inside. Stargate is my life ... Thanks from Brazil!

G. Reinhold Why get sad? Everyone ages. Be thankful that we have immortalized RDA’s excellent performances in SG-1 and can watch them time and time again.

I no doubt agree that SG-1 did have a satisfactory finish and that a 3rd movie is not necessarily needed. However, with the knowledge that they wrote it and were about to start filming and also knowing what the plot involved (and whom), I am upset that we don't get to see it. I agree with what you've said in regards to Atlantis. They really should have given it a proper ending before starting SGU. It would have also have helped SGU a lot more with a more receptive fan base.

He wanted to spend more time with his young daughter and be a good dad. Gotta respect him for that. Though I too wish he was in those seasons, I can understand why he left.

Any show that lasts for 10 years with 213 episodes and 2 movies would be considered a success. Syfy just doesn't know what to do with shows that aren't reality shows or wrestling. I'm ok with them cancelling SG1 when they did it felt like it was time, I just wish we could get that third movie (it's Jack centered!). The cancellation of Atlantis was a bit more surprising, I also wish we could get that movie as well.

Depends how you define success. For advertising revenue and hence networks (and hence practical viability) then ratings do. But Nielsen ratings are not an accurate indicator of popularity. And popularity is further not an accurate indicator of quality/depth of material. So if you're trying to suggest that the show was not popular and/or of a low quality, then I remind you that its cancellation is proof neither for nor against that assertion....

For me, SG-1 was finished. After 10 season and 2 enemies, everything was fine, and the end was pretty acceptable (I wish they had some kind of "Thank You" text in the last episode with some scenes from all 10 years). SGA was some kind of problem for me. The season was finished, thats fine. But the story is still not finished, which is a very big problem for me. Especially the fact of cancelling SGA and starting SGU, and then didn't even finish that one. Stupid SyFy!

...however if you're just reminding us that the show was not financially attractive for the network to continue producing it, then yes, unfortunately, this is true. Hopefully one day we can (a) fix the ratings system to be more proportionate, and (b) encourage dumb people to enjoy quality material rather than wrestling. This way we solve the problem from both sides. :)

That's simply not true, the fact is they butchered SGU because it was filling timeslots when wrestling could be airing, yes, fucking wrestling. syfy died for me.

SGU was just a terribly bad idea. To start a show, that is going totally off from the original design of the first 2 shows, just to get more viewers and more money, is a stupid idea. Especially the fact to cancell the already popular and sucessful one, just to start it. I liked SGU after I watched about the 1st season. The sad thing is; they had two very succesfull shows with 15 seasons and over 300 episodes and 2 movies... and just ruined everything with 2 seasons/40 episodes of a new show.

He's old. He has a kid. He don't need to look nice. If I was old, rich, famous, and a former member of the Stargate Franchise, I wouldn't worry about my weight.
