Yeah, I know he doesn't really die, but he does get owned
You have to hand it to Joel Goldsmith for this score!
Stargate is owned by MGM not me.

Such as wire guided missiles, or torpedoes. One of the weapons proposed during the Star Wars program was kinetic kill vehicles, the flashes from the reaction control thrusters makes it look like a pulsating light. What's interesting with these drones are the swarm behaviour. We've actually seen deactivated drones on both SG1 and SGA and yet you saw that Goa'uld ultimate soldier surrounded by much tinier drones, now we did see small prototypes of the drones in an episode of SGA but this SG1 episode implies the Antarctic outpost had both the full sized drones and the smaller antipersonnel drones. I'm surprised we did not see human made replacement drones on SGA as they were beginning to understand the technology of the ancients, enough to make their own replicator, their own nanites and their own dimensional link to another universe for power. The drined are actually similar to weapons and weapon proposals we already have so surely with the ancient databases, we should've been able to produce our own versions to restock Atlantis and the puddle jumpers.

@@johnwang9914 I'm sure that part of the reason for them not (yet) being able to make replacements is simply from a scripting standpoint. Series television, especially long-running programs, need to have drama. Each increase in the capabilities of the heros requires a subsequent increase in the danger presented by the villains. You want the heros to win, but not easily at least until the end and after risk and effort as shown here. Given more time I'm sure they could have written them developing the technology or coming up with something close. The scriptwriters can end up pulling off this process, and that's one of the reasons SG1 and SGA are so entertaining. Having an excellent cast is essential as well. Plus both shows have a good "feel" to them, combining drama and humor with both short and long-term plot threads. [ I've never really watched full episodes of SGU so can't make a good judgment call on it. The feel of the show seems different, more like the remade BSG (Battlestar Galactica) which I also have never really watched. ]

@@bobblum5973 And had you actually watched the very long running Stargate SG1 series, you might've realized how your post is a bit on the ignorant side. Yes there is a strong need to avoid both technology creep and plot creep just to keep a TV series episodic and having a TV series episodic was once an absolute management requirement. You can certainly see this in the earlier episodes as any possible gain was lost within the same episode, so much that it actually became the motivation for later plotlines such as Senator Kinsley, the shadow stargate teams, the area 51 research teams, the military industrial complex "Trust" etc. But remember, the Stargate franchise has been uniquely long lived and not only overlapped with TV series where the episodic mandates was over ridden by providing an overall grand plot line as a backdrop (Babylon 5), but Stargate SG-1 actually used a gradual technology, plot creep and villain changes just to revive the series. Also the major technology creeps such as the Prometheus, the Daedalus, and what I was discussing, the drone weapons, the Asgard technology, the Ancient database etc. all occurred when the showrunners were expecting the series to finally be ended. Sure, your statement of avoiding technology and plot creep to keep a series episodic is correct but it is also absurdly ignorant if you given how the series adapted over it's very long run and the fan service it was providing towards the end of the first series in the franchise and of course, my post was just about griping on the in world apparent lack of development that should've been possible which was also explained in world lore by having the technology research and development being by the top secret area 51 teams and the problematic military industrial complex "Trust", later shown to have been infiltrated by the Gou'ald, hence explaining why we did not see such developments as they were secret and compartmentalized. Yes, the series started as episodic, but it's uniquely long life brought the use of creep to both revitalize the series periodically, as fan service and utilized the creep as both additional plot lines and provided in world explanations as to why so little creep was shown. Perhaps you should actually watch the series first.

@@johnwang9914 Your claim of my ignorance was premature. I was speaking in general terms for shows in general. I agree with many of your points, they took quite a few of those issues forward into later seasons. We could compare the Stargate series' to Star Trek, and how they tried to handle things in every subsequent new program. Some worked better than others, individual episodes seemed to be the same basic plot, but the main thing is how they were handled in the long run. I thoroughly enjoy SG1 and SGA, Babylon 5 and the Trek series up to Voyager. I have not seen as much of the newest shows, but more due to time and not from disliking them. Any show reflects on the time during which it was produced, which is why some older episodes age poorly and new ones may not appeal to seasoned fans. I tend to think having a decent show to watch is better than having none, so I try to give newer shows a chance when I can.
@johnwang9914
@johnwang9914 2 года назад
@@bobblum5973 The point is, the plot and technology creep issue and management to maintain the series as episodic is obviously blatant in earlier episodes and the series has been long enough to enjoy both technology and plot creep strategically as well as establish in world explanations for some of it so indeed even in your own words of not having watched the series, it is your ignorance that shows in your post.

Always interested me that the Ancients wouldn't interfere directly, but would allow the tech that they left behind to be used.
@retrospect6904
@retrospect6904 3 года назад
well all the tech was developed back when they were flesh and blood. The non-interference policy was to prevent anyone ascended from using their god-like power. they strongly believed they would no better than than the Ori if they interacted with the lower plan. Also, they believed ascension was only a step in further enlightment, interaction with the mortal plan would be like taking a step backward.

Watched it for years, yes, well, the Ancients had a few opportunities for success but morally chose to avoid that course before they took the road to ascension - the weapon that could effectively detonate any ship coming out of hyperspace, the planetary defense turret, the orbiting defense cannons, even the Asurans and time travel. But, there were risks and ethical issues with some of those items. They moved too fast against the Wraith and got overwhelmed, arrogance never helps. Cityships=rock

@AirsoftSteveCope I totally DO NOT remember making this comment, haha! Yes, I agree with you. The Asgaard had brilliant weapons and shield configurations. I actually don't see the Ori necessarily doing very well against the Wraith, unless their shields are able to withstand Wraith attacks indefinitely. I could see that beam weapon splitting a Wraith hive ship in half in seconds but if you have 300 hive ships against 3 Ori vessels....those beam weapons only fire so fast.
@The_Lucent_Archangel
@The_Lucent_Archangel 14 лет назад
@IAMSilentdeath Um, yes they were Ancient. Atlantis, the alternate reality (10x13 The Road Not Taken), and numerous references made throughout SG-1 and SGA established that that the drones from Antarctica were not only Ancient in design, but that they had the capability to thwart an ORI attack on Earth. And they were plenty more advanced than even Anubis.
@InterstateLoveSong
@InterstateLoveSong 2 года назад
The only problem I have is the power of drones. They obviously hadn't settled on how powerful they were yet. While it looks very cool and impressive to have what appears to be thousands if not tens of thousands of drones, Atlantis and later SG-1 show this was massive overkill. Guess it raises even more questions about drones. As you see them swarming the ships and punching right through multiple times. What does it take to use up a drone? If they are physically intact, can they be recovered and recharged? Did O'Neill just waste a shit ton of drones to really stick it to Anubis? Or Maybe these drones were not as powerful as the Pegasus counterparts? I guess over millions of years the drones could have been upgraded. But you see in Antartica when Atlantis leaves, they have Puddle Jumpers and such. Why did the Ancients stagnate so much?
@nickcphs5678
@nickcphs5678 2 года назад
I don’t think they stagnated to much it was like why make something better if what you have works. Most if not all have ancients most powerful weapons came during the war against the wraith. It does seem even with us it takes a war or a life and death situation to advance our tech as well. I just don’t think they had no need to to keep advancing there tech.
@toddkes5890
@toddkes5890 9 месяцев назад
The Atlantis 'The Tower' (season 2, episode 15) had the drones being externally powered, so when they activated the main engines to drain the last drop of power from the 'king's castle, the drones lost power and fell out of the sky instead of killing the village.
@ExanRev
@ExanRev 13 лет назад
@Tract05 Most likely they had a much larger force (maybe 150 or so hives) during their war with the Ancients, but cut way back after things died down to save resources, IE like any military force usually does right after a war. And considering they have no sort of shielding (I think their ships were designed to withstand lots of small hits that could be regenerated, not massive piercing beams), they'd get walloped by the Ori.

I hate to say it, but with the advent of 3D printing and other technologies, it'd very conceivable that swarms like this could one day be real, just imagine scaling up say bacteriophage biochemistry as a single drone, an intelligent macroscopic bacteriophage like swarm akin to a genetically organised robotic technology
@technerd89

This was incredibly wasteful when you consider the effectiveness and scarcity of Ancient drones. We saw a Hatak go down to as little as 2, surely Anubis's ship could have fallen to a few dozen. Instead he goes for full overkill and depletes the supply so harshly that they have to take most of Atlantis's drones.

Because in the SG1 mythology, the event horizon cannot manifest when an object is blocking the gate - likewise, the outburst of energy can't manifest if there is an object about 1-2MM away from the event horizon. It allows the gate to form but doesn't allow the eruption from the gate any space to materialize. Stargate physics!

@ExanRev Only 60? Did they have a much greater force before the Ancients abandoned the Pegasus galaxy?
