@@Bob-jd4nr This and season seven should've been called the "Homage to Star Wars seasons" as Anubis was basically the Stargate version of the Emperor, his kull warriors were his version of Clone troopers and Darth Vader. Daniel as ascended being was Jedi-esque. The space battle in "Fallen" was reminiscent of the Death Star Battle in ANH and ROTJ. and the battle over Antarctica and Jack being frozen were homages to the Battle of Hoth and Han Solo being frozen in carbonite.
Could Daniel have killed him though? Even Oma, who is a full blown ascended Ancient (and an old and experienced at that) had to sacrifice herself and lock them both in eternal combat (which doesn't kill him anyway, and suggests that their power is equal, which is interesting considering Anubis is only partly ascended).
While planet busting can be quite useful, I appreciate a superweapon with lower, "tactical," setting for faster, closer, and safer firing. I see Anubis does too.
Man i love how he plays a literal anubis, god of mummification and afterlife. Partly ascended and yet dangerous as a system lord. Also scavenged across dead ancients and their tech so...
This is the one episode that really puzzles me about Anubis. Goauld among their followers never give up the "I am a god", but amongst themselves they are open about it being a lie. Anubis is very different. He genuinely believes he is a God, but he's actually smart about attaining more power. It's obvious that he sees everything and everyone beneath him. So I'm really lost why he felt it necessary to mention to his ignorant and faithful follower "What you just saw was not my doing." as it makes him seem honest, not one to BS people, but in later episodes he has a lot of moments where he uses BS that makes this episode seem like a fluke. Personally, I'd like to see a spin-off that tells of Anubis' life - what he did that were considered unspeakable to the Goauld, how he tricked Omah, and how he rose back to power with full fighting force.
anubis obiovsly thought ancients werent inferior in power, but inferior in ambition and petty rules, he would also known about the ori and their power, wich he wanted to attain for himself, the fact he recognizes he is not quite there yet is not humility, its perspective he was forced to accept, ascension while not destroying his megalomaniac urges, gave him deeper understanding of his own limits
A true god does not need to to brag with other peoples archievements. He let's his own power speak for itself/himself. And he had plenty of power and archievements to brag with. I found it noticeable that Anubis had a distinct dislike of fellow Goaulds. Something that goes beyond mere ambition. In turn he showed a certain - I would say respect - for certain Jaffa and Humans. Herak failed him at least 2 or 3 times, but still was kept around. But he killed Goa'uld for the slightest mistake all the time.
@@christopherg2347 Technically speaking, ascended beings are Gods so in a way, Anubis's entire attitude was different than the other Goa'uld because he perceived himself to be the genuine article.
Never realized it before but as an ascended. Anubis knew everything the Ancient knowledge. So at this point. he already knew about it all. the weapon outpost on earth, Dakara superweapon, naquadriah, the eyes. he just needed a way to justify to the others how he could have acquire them with regular knowledge. thats why the eye was just plug and play for him. I would have love to have been in the Ancient Diner when he was planning for this superweapon. Oma: you are building a mothership with a superweapon you cant power Anubis: I am a Goauld we always make superweapons like that. Oma: what about this port with "the eyes go here" Anubis: well I read in this scrap of papyrus from Ra's long lost archive that the eye of Ra could be use as a source of power.
working side by side with a "god". i found this to be very interesting episode. especially when herak tries to shoot daniel only to realize he cant be killed, leaving the "gods" to their bussiness.

Varen Shan The planet was still destroyed by Anubis’s ship, sure it wasn’t torn to tiny pieces but destroyed none the less, so I’d say that this super weapon is far more economical and useful than the Death Star, when comparing the difference in size ( moon sized space station vs a 2-3 km spaceship that get you similar enough results ) and the tactical firing solution to destroy threatening fleets.

After all it used lightning (?) as opposed to the standard "ammunition" / "guns" of other ships (including the Asgard), Whereas the Asgard beam weapons (developed after the initial confrontation with the Ori Ships?) did prove effective (at first?) So to me the biggest factors would be: - The effectiveness of this weapon on Ori shields - The effectiveness of the shields of his own ship against Ori weapons - If it was 1 V 1, or like we saw multiple Ori ships (and would they all just target the Anubis ship because it would be perceived as the bigger threat)
@@notsureyou I know what you mean, and if it is a 1on1, it could be interesting, both Ships ( Ori and Anubis Mothership ) are strong, both Offensive and Defensive. However, Ori Ships dont need to charge their Weapon, they can shoot right away, and their Beam Weapons ( my Guess: Asgard Beams, just on Meth ) are pretty strong, strong enough to penetrate Anubis' Shield? But Ori dont fight fair + they have many more Ships, if it is against 2 or more Ori Ships, Anubis will lose. And even if he can fight off 2 or 3 Ori Ships, simply more will come and in the End he will be beaten. Another interesting Fight could be the Wraith Superhive vs Anubis Ship vs Ori Battleship vs Pegasus Replicators.

@@notsureyouit didn't use lighting. It's a similar weapon to the plasma Lance's, just a different execution of them. Lighting doesn't act like that when Anubis fired the weapon at Abydos. It's not lighting. At all
Stargate came too soon, the trouble with the show was they were never sure if they were coming back next season and SyFy + MGM were not exactly reliable benefactors. I always felt Anubis and his technological insights should have remained the primary antagonist for the remainder of SG1, and they never should have revealed him in any human form. He should have been a practically unkillable evil, a mysterious presence with more knowledge than any single individual, gathering strength in the darkness of space and building up over a few seasons, like B5 and the shadows.
No. It was about as perfect a time as you could get. Shows like that now would be criticized into the dust, no matter what they did... and cancelled after the very first few episodes.
All I have to do is look at most of the other “popular” shows on tv right now to know how this show would look if it was made today. Most writers today seem to only care about political opinions or agendas instead of enjoyable story telling.
@@spectralassassin6030 Just because a show or movie has an political message and agenda doesn't necessarily make weak storytelling but it depends on what the political message are. For example there are several WW2 movies with anti nazi message but also good story and that is fitting because of how horrible the crimes were and how relevant it still is today. Although many of the newer shows aren't that balanced.

@@Amann0407 Yes that's what I meant. Life really took a big crap on Daniel. It was already too late. By the time he had a way of ascending Sha're or indeed saving her in one of MANY other ways such as the Goa'uld extraction machine or the Tollan device that forces the host to take control, she was dead. What still mystifies me though is why you can't just hack the Goa'uld parasite's head off during surgery and then stick the host body in a sarcophagus.
To be fair, I don't think Daniel "trusted him" necessarily. I think that Daniel thought that Anubis would legitimately believe that if he stepped out of line Daniel would take him down and that he wouldn't do it then out of fear. But, of course, Anubis knows the rules even better than Daniel does. So he probably knew that Daniel couldn't do anything against him without being taken down by the others. So he pretended to believe Daniel's threats but as soon as he had the eye he basically told him to go fuck himself because he knew Daniel couldn't do anything to him.
I have always at some level despised the Others. Throughout Anubis, the Wraith, the Asurans, and the Ori arcs; humanity is left to struggle as their mistakes. Their failings, errors, hubris. They simply don't deserve to be called Ancients, Ancestors, or even Elders or Wise. They were vagabound failures who went from one mess to the next until they had to leave corporeal existence behind having run out of beds to shit in while refusing to clean up their mess in the others; making it the next person's problem.
We have made some pretty AWFUL mistakes in our history, and remember, in Stargate Lore, the Ancients were the FIRST evolution of our form... I think the phrase is Like father, like son And ultimately, they did recognise their mistakes, and that by their actions, they only made things worse, which is why they made the rule that ascended beings could NOT interfere with the lower planes, or mortals. Think about it, once they’d ascended, they could have solved all of the problems they created with just a SNAP of their fingers... but considering their track record, with trying to make things in the galaxy better... how might that have gone now that they possessed all the power of the universe...? Sometimes the only move is not to play
To a certain extent I agree with you. They are hypocrites, arrogant and definitely selfish. But I get their 'no interaction allowed' rule. It makes sense. Nonetheless they should have done something to stop Anubis or at least let Daniel stop him
@@SigalDa Unless doing so gained them more power or they had to band together against a common enemy! It is possible they would not able to kill Anubis and if he had some advantage in battling the others they might be interested in joining with him!
It's interesting how he directs it right at the pyramid. Sure it might just be to use the Stargate for an increased yield, but he's also destroying the center of power of Ra, who was once head of the system lords. It's sort of symbolic in a way.
If the Pyramid was the epicenter of the blast, nothing would have survived, it would have made more sense if another place or multiple points on Abydos were targeted and the Pyramid's destruction was incidental!

So when used against a planet,the blast radius of the weapon is only powerful enough to destroy several kilometers worth of land from the point of impact. I wonder how effective it is against an Ori mother ship
@@victorselve8349 no, even with anubis's ship at full power, the eyes of the Goa'uld do not stack up to the Zero point energy Tech or the hypermatter reactors of star wars. The death star technology is the real planet destroyer, given the stations massive size and all that firepower is definitely capable of knocking down Ori ships.
@@varenshan7731 just rewatched the episode, Teal'c states that they must assume that Abidos has been destroyed but later Skaara states that they died in the blast from when Anubis fired on the pyramid so I guess Teal'c was referring to the settlement? As for the power output of the eyes I think the only data available is "powerful on their own and 10 times stronger if used together". We don't even know who made them, although I doubt that if they were Goa'uld tech that the Goa'uld who came up with them would have shared the technology and not made more so I assume they got it from another more advanced race so it is difficult to gauge their output from the technology level and seeing as Anubis super weapon also seems to work very differently from the directed energy weapons we mostly see in the series finding a relation between their output and the destructive potential of the weapon. As for being as powerful as a ZPM, a half charged ZPM had enough energy that the blast of it going boom could encompass our solar system if detonated from earth so I'd say that's more than enough to destroy a planet. And as for the DS 1 or 2 being able to destroy an Ori mother ship, probably yes, I mean Ori motherships are tough and Stargate technology is generally superior to Star wars but an Ori mothership still isn't planet levels of resistent (although if you want to take it to the extreme a Ha'tak can hide in the Corona of a blue giant for ~9 h which would scale an Ori mothership quite high) (also it wouldn't be the easiest target, especially for the DS1 seeing as Ori mothership are way more agile than any Star wars ship in their size and the fireing sequence does take a couple seconds which is enough time for an Ori mother ship to change it's heading and move a good distance
Anubis is an odd duck. My understanding, after seeing the Ori storyline, is that he ascended, learned a lot, and when they tried to deascend him, he was able to resist. This isn’t explained, but if he had followers worshiping him, he may have been strong enough to resist the effort…being consigned to a lesser plane of existence but still not mortal. That or he quickly found a way to augment his strength to resist…or that the Ancients couldn’t do more without destroy him…which was something they would not do. Oma taking on Anubis indicates that a single ascended being can’t destroy another single ascended being. This seems to conflict with Ark of Truth where Morgan took on Adria. Now, Morgan may have had help from the other Ancients…or it’s just a replay of Oma vs. Anubis. Certainly, while Adria had the mantle of the Ori, she was too powerful for Morgan to attack her.
My understanding is that a single ascended being can't destroy another single ascended being under normal circumstances, but they can force them into an eternal battle where neither one can do anything except fight the other. That's what Oma did to Anubis and what Morgan did to Adria. Ascended beings working in concert can destroy or forcably de-ascend their fellows, which is how the Others tended to operate. Likewise, ascended beings can be empowered by worshipers, but the process isn't as simple as having people worship you and requires beings like the Priors to collect and channel that energy to you. That's why brainwashing the Priors with the Ark of Truth brought Adria down to the level that Morgan could put her in that eternal battle. Anubis didn't have any Priors, so his worshipers weren't actually boosting him. That may have been what Kalek was intended to be, but it's hard to say for sure. Daniel could have engaged Anubis in the eternal battle here like Oma did later if he was allowed to do so, but since Anubis was Oma's punishment, the Others weren't going to allow Daniel to do that. Oma pulled Daniel back rather than have the Others step in to stop him, since she knew what they did to Daniel would be worse. My read is that Anubis was fully ascended at this point, but the Others were basically watching him like a hawk, ready to strike him down if he put one toe out of line. This meant while he technically had all the powers of any other ascended being, he didn't dare use any of them. At least until he had a way to counter the Others.
It’s implied that ascended ori without the power boost from being worshipped, are less powerful than ascended ancients. The moment the ark of truth did it’s thing, Adria was fucked…
From my understanding in subsequent episodes, Anubis wasn't sent "all the way back" to punish Oma Desala. Since she created the problem, they forced her to deal with the problem. By essentially causing her to be the one to fight Anubis (seemingly for all eternity), and so to a degree to forfeit her own "life". This is from the episode where Daniel is in the "Diner" (Season 8 episode 18) OR / AS WELL AS Retaking human form could only be done out of choice. So they couldn't send him all the way back, because he would have known that they could then kill him, So he remained ascended, and they didn't "deal with him" because they put limits on his actions.... I guess they were waiting for Oma to deal with the problem that she created, Since why should any of them forfeit their "ascended life" in an eternal battle with Anubis (in order to keep him from doing bad things)
@@notsureyou - The flaw in that is that they could, and did, return Daniel when he broke the rules…unless you assert he chose to return as his punishment.

I miss this show so much. Daniel does his best but the save the planet but the ahole Anubis does it anyway. You can see that Daniel is so sad and upset by this.... I don't blame him at all.. poor Daniel
anubis and later the ori showed us that the ancients were a bunch of asses.... with some few exceptions...... they let anubis have the knowledge he gained when he ascended, even though by their own rules they should´ve wiped it. and with the ori they were totally fine to let galaxy after galaxy be taken over by the ori (who would´ve come after the ancients at some point). the ori grew more powerful the more believers they had at one point they would´ve been strong enough to wipe out the ascended ancients
i say they were not asses but too ridged in the following of the rules even when bending the rules would benefit everyone, Anubis stole the knowledge and they were unable to take it back only banish him which in itself only worked part way, if he could do it as a system lord then it fine, and he took advantage, same with the ori armies conquering a galaxy spreading a religion, yeah normal low level unascended stuff no interference, and it kinda understandable to appoint i mean when you broke the rules when you do what you want with that level of power you become the ori,

Because the other ancients wanted to keep Anubis alive to punish Oma. So when Daniel try to strkie Anubis, Oma decide to stop him herself and send him back to mortal plan otherwise the ancients would have simply killed Daniel.
@@haiirorinenori1038 Oma wasn't trying to stop Daniel being killed, the other ascended wouldn't have done that. However if she sent him back she could leave him with his ascended knowledge locked in his subconscious, and she could leave him in a place she knew SGC would find him. The other ascended beings wouldn't be that nice, they would have totally wiped his mind and dumped him on some random world most likely. But as Thomas Edwards says, we don't actually know that the others would have definitely done anything to Daniel. Daniel and Anubis are both "mistakes" of Oma's and they are both ascended. A fight between them as ascended beings should by ascended rules be fair game. I actually think Oma was saving Daniel from the fate she eventually adopted for herself. If Daniel tried fighting Anubis it would be exactly as when Oma did it, an eternal fight that he can neither win nor lose. Oma would rather "sacrifice" Abydos than Daniel in that moment and choose to ascend the peoples of Abydos and descend Daniel for that reason. Daniel can do more good than just taking down Anubis if he is descended, as an ascended being at that moment his only action for the rest of eternity is keeping Anubis from being able to do anything and that is not what she wants for him. Also remember that Oma couldn't descend Daniel alone, that would require collective action by more ascended beings, so almost certainly Oma's faction which Daniel was a part of was involved in picking him out of the fight and then descending him.

The weapon wasn’t really like a WMD it was more electrical I don’t think it would have much power hitting a grounded target, anuibis tactic was target the stsrgste because it would overload it and blow up
I think the planet was completely destroyed since the stargate probably blew up. But when SG-1 returns, that's just what they're seeing in the ascended realm. Abydos is gone.

You know... if Daniel had known then what he knows now (in terms of the Ancients) I wonder if he could have asked for a partial descension. I wonder what that would have looked like and how that might have worked out.
It's a demonstration of power, to destroy all those who would stand in his way. Abydos stood in his way to power, he had to make an example of them. If he shows mercy, his enemies would remember that. He would be considered weaker.
This is a theory but i think the other reason was that he obviously held a big hatred towards Ra and wanted to show his hatred by destroying whats symbolizes and resembles him. Its logical considering that Ra was the one who banished him and made him fall from power as a system lord. It may be his way of spitting on him and giving the entire galaxy a warning.

If I were sg-1, I would use the tech to destroy the ori to destroy the ascended ones in Milky Way galaxy. And then send the tech to every galaxy with a stargate. Wipe out all ascended everywhere.

Silent Gamer2015 just like humans it doesn’t affect everyone..... we know know RA was younger then yu , remember YU was an outcast for a lot of the early Gould dynasty, he was around when Apep was the emperor, RA, Toth, nut, Anubis and Osiris where his (sons) this is about 22.000BC RA attacked atok lost favour anuibis became apep’s trusted hand, anuibis killed apep (those unspeakable crimes Anubis committed it was that) RA and the others rebelled anuibis fled eventually YU killed Anubis or so he thought. After Anubis fled RA became dominant his close advisor bastet and the others created the system lords. anuibis came back and tried to destroy all life in the galaxy again those unspeakable crimes and as I said yu killed him (he thought) Then RA was destroyed by earth and a lot of the others...... that’s why anuibis was not interested in the system lords he wanted the old ways back him as emperor. YU was the ONLY! Last remaining system lord to really know him other then Osiris.
I remember being so disappointed in Daniel. He was always a knowledgeable person and really expected Ascension to make him wiser and more canny. When Anubis went to fire I expected Daniel to use the opportunity to just steal all the parts to his weapon and leave a silly note or something. Instead he foolishly attacked Anubis directly knowing he’d most likely be stopped.
