The irrepressible Stargate team faces their biggest challenge yet as they set out in search of the ancient artifact with the power to defeat the villainous Ori before they launch a devastating attack on planet Earth. Eh... I think it would devolve into your more run of the mill Sci fi show at that point with a lot of small fledgling societies coming out of the wood works in a human centric and populated galaxy which would ultimately lose the flair and attraction stargate had. That the bad guy was some all encompassing threat on both a physical and philosophical level. That Earth was always the under dogs attempting to find a means to best their enemy using the limited resources and technology on hand etc. After the end of this movie pretty much Earth Humans would have the full knowledge of the asgard coupled with the full access of the ancient city of atlantis and would most likely also gain access to the Ori city as well and its knowledge. They would have the knowledge and data base of three distinct and incredibly powerful civilisations at their disposal and no real enemy of which to reasonably be a threat without jumping the shark to introduce something more powerful than the literal followers of an off shoot of the ancients using ancient technology and religion as a weapon. As much as I'd like there to be more stargate I think this was a good place to end it. I heard destiny fell into the trap of making the show more about the characters having a back and forth drama love triangle nonsense thing and I'm glad sg1 and atlantis avoided that trope for the most part but without getting absolutely ridiculous with inventing a new enemy or else getting tedious with complex politics and fallout of the various shows there's not much else ground for the show to cover. The Asgard even pretty much say as much reaffirming that Humanity is the 5th race. Not just that they had potential but they had now reached it perhaps sooner than they were ready for but absolutely needed at that time when the asgardians were dying out. They peaked. Humanity that is. There isn't really anywhere else for them to go but up.

Amazon is trying. Unfortunately the writers strike is happening, and it could all go sideways the longer it goes on. They seem determined to use this extremely valuable property they bought, but how it turns out is a story yet unwritten. (I didn't do that intentionally, but it fits with the strike.)

The Priors are Hok'tar genetically advanced humans, but unlike those on the true path to ascension (like the ancients), they seem to need the staves given to them by the Ori in order to use most of their powers effectively. I wonder if the staves work after the Ori and Adria are gone? Possibly not!

@@lamario295 Without giving them Asgard hyperdrives the trip would take wraith millenia... Asgard warship - assuming it could find naquadriah to refuel on the way, would take freaking half a year to get to Ori Galaxy. (Assuming several means like 7-8 billion lightyears Destiny was away from Earth - it would take Asgard warship 111 days of sustained maximum speed displayed to traverse galaxy... Even Asgard warship could not do this for this long - it was emergency cruise speed which risked burning out the either the drive itself or field emmiters which kept ship in subspace... At regular safe cruise speed it would take like a year for the best Asgard (and thus anyone ever) had to reach this distance) if it was like 20-30 billion lightyears it would 5 years at best with supply and maintanance pauses....

The cinematography is epic, all with the battle of two ascended being, with the response to what the origin was actually. Perfect gold. A freaking masterpiece.

Epic cinematography? Hardly - overlit as most TV shows are for low production costs from minimal lighting set up time after/during set building. The effects are also weak sauce, they did this in the 90s for Kosh vs Ulkesh in Babylon 5 - so making a weaker effect years later is not at all impressive.

@@mnomadvfx Which budget was larger, do you think...Babylon 5, or Stargate during the Crisis? This movie was made in 2008 right at the moment everything crashed. Their budget was shrunk considerably. It was that, or total cancellation. Not bad for low budget. Also, the house market crisis cemented Atlantis early cancellation (season 6 & 7 had already been partially written)

Its so good seeing an ancient brave enough and crossing the line to help for what he believes is right. It would be so good, to have a serie about the Alterans, Stargate Alterans... her daily lives a billion of years ago on that galaxy, showing Merlin young, and so much more. It would be awesome.

She was given permission to interfere. As it only takes one ancient. Thus they did not break the treaty of the 4 races. The 5th had no such treaty..

SG1 era of Stargate was the golden era. Now that Amazon owns the IP. I really doubt we will ever get anything that good ever again. They'll either reboot and molest the IP with their own BS ideas or they'll make another disaster like Star Gate Origins and bury the IP for good.

I LOVE how they all knew each other's faces enough at this point that the moment Daniel figured it out, Teal'c was ready. I also feel really bad for the Doci, I kinda felt it would've been appropriate for Teal'c to sit with him and explain that he too had been under the sway of false gods, but there is a path forward.

@@refulgent_fanta I wouldn't be too sure about that. That administrator who first burned Daniel and Vala and was then made a prior seemed to be in there for the power and certainly felt free to reinterpret the parables as he saw fit in later episodes. Besides, overcoming one's beliefs is difficult. If it only took truth, perspective and empathy, our politics would be a lot less messed up. It takes people being able to admit they were wrong and complicit in a number of horrors and people don't just do that. Also, just presenting them with the point of view of their victims also requires convincing them that it was true. They could always just deny it and say fake news rather than admit they've been wrong.

The Ark of Truth is a indoctrination device, it overrides personal beliefs quite effectively. Plus without the Priors the Ori Warships lose their most effective weapon. With the Ori and Priors they can’t BUILD any new warships to the same standard either

The Ark of Truth is a cognitohazard which the Foundation should have contained in a high security site as a safe SCP. I think they would be researching it for use in a Broken Masquerade or as part of SCP-2000.

@@Groza_Dallocort Haha, the two universes are kinda in compatible. In the SCP universe the Stargate would most certainly be under their control and none-of this would have happened because they wouldn't have used it nearly as much. Definitely would have all gone down a lot differently, wise cracking Jack Oneill would have never been let anywhere close to the Stargate if the SCP was in charge of it.

@@Groza_Dallocort Oh god not the replicators!!! They might figure out what makes him tick and create replicator versions of him! Ultimately though if humans could contain him with our limited tech then so could the Goa'uld or Wraith. He might take out a stupid and overconfident system lord or 2 before they just beam him into space or into a star. The Wraith also have been shown to be very adept at figuring out how things work, especially biotech, and turning it back against us, have to be careful what you send their way haha.

Dudes, there is 0% chance that will happen The writer is not that dumb to make one extremely stupid blunder, Look closely at which table's leg teal'c shot, clearly it's the one that due to that leg being broken combined with the chest weigh will always results in the table falling towards the doci thus the chest can only show the truth to him The ori maybe gods or adria is goddess, but the writer is God

@Jay Morales Most won't. The Ori didn't actually want their followers to ascend, so the Path of Origin was merely a ruse - it was not actually a way to ascend. As for the OP, the ships are no longer a threat: they can only be piloted by Priors. I'd also expect most regular soldiers to defect once they see all the priors defect.

The closest thing i found is showing understanding for the feelings of a person, showing the concept of logical fallacies, the thought of "would you allow it if it was your neighbour", logic and search for underlying principle and the idea that every man is just a man, people are generaly more good than bad and that bad people can only live by taking from good people. In that order. And then i explain that i didn't figure this out, but was only lucky to find it and think about it.

@@SigalDa Actually they aren't thinking of themselves,, quite the opposite, they believe that if they use their powers for anything other than observing and presumably exploring the universe, they will become the Ori and thus a threat to everyone. This is also fill in why Anubis didn't want his people to worship him, he feared that if his people started to worship him and he started to draw power from that, that he would force the ancient hands and they would attack him in force, instead of just allowing him to go around doing evil stuff until Oma had enough and accepted her punishment.

Just watched the movie yesterday - a fairly decent effort for the time and its limited budget. Of course, there is no point to watching this movie without having seen the ninth and tenth season of SG1 beforehand - as they do form a continuous narrative - like the twenty-hour-long movie... Overall, though, the story is solid and the actors are good - I actually miss such adventure-filled sci-fi with rather smart, even philosophical undertones, as the current crop of sci-fi TV errs on the side of morbid horror and drib 'photo-realism' like in "Expanse", "Altered Carbon", etc. If only someone could actually combine the realist thoughtfulness of prop designs in "Expanse" with more exciting & vivid, even sumptuous visuals of The Ark of Truth, and conceptual exploration of faith from SG1 season 9 & 10 & The Art of Truth - well.... That, of course, won't happen as you need a visionary to take such risks... Dune is kinda close and the movie is coming, but it does look more minimalist, less sumptuous, and it does not have that crucial "our" point of view vis-à-vis Earth....

I do agree that without having seen the last few seasons of SG1 and therefore be introduced to Ori arc, watching this movie is rather pointless. BUT if you got the box set of SG1 DVDs including "The Ark of Truth" (from which this clip is taken) and "Continuum" , then on the disc with this movie is a sort of "recap" with the clips/excerpts from episodes in the Ori arc which are the most crucial ones to understand the conflict; very useful if you have not seen the series at all or if has been a while since you last saw the series and therefore needed a refresher.

Funny thing is, the Ori themselves were never truly evil. They were simply corrupted by their own power upon becoming ascended. Remember, when they first began they wanted to help people. But then they developed a god complex that only got worse over the millennia.

True that energy cant be destroyed, but we dont know what happens if they strike each other. Could be that fractions of their energy gets seperated from them elsewhere just like the energy of fire is spreading into hot air wich pretty much dissipates into the atmosphere. 1. They couldn't since they were in the Ori Galaxy. 2. The Altearens believed in their rules of no getting involved in the lower planes. Even if it meant that the Ori would enslave all humans and gain power enough to destroy the Altearens. Only Merlin and Morgan stood up for humans.

I like to think that they did. Once Adria ascended and SG-1 used the Ark of Truth to weaken her power, Morgan Le Fay was able to get in the first blow and keep Adria trapped in eternal combat, just like Oma Desala did to Anubis. Then, with Adria weakened and trapped, the Ancients could intervene and kick her arse. Heck, I imagine they did the same to Anubis as soon as Oma demonstrated that she’d learned her lesson by dealing with Anubis personally, since he was her responsability. The Tau’ri simply never learn any of this, since the Ancients don’t like chatting with them.

The Hippy Griff actually in the case of oma vs Anubis I read they are locked in eternal combat since they can’t physically kill each other , the other ancients won’t step in and destroy Anubis but rather keep them battling forever...this way Anubis can’t hurt the galaxy and oma won’t interfere again and repeat her mistake - Morgan vs adria it’s a little different but I doubt the ancients will help there either since 1 they are in another galaxy and 2 Morgan still broke the rules by helping - the ancients in my opinion aren’t for the side of good or evil... they just sit back and observe and grow more enlightened
