I bet it is a whole lot easier to hear a difference in the room. I hear the direct sound of the strings of the guitar being close to the same volume as the amp. It would be nice to hear that there is a difference in changing tone caps only because I have heard so many talk about it. What is the worst sounding tone cap and the best?

I hear no difference. I use headphones. But nice playing!
