This editing video is for those of you that are completely new to video editing! I go over what a video editor is, the various different popular programs that are out there, and how to use the basic functions no matter the app you choose to use! Even though I go through this tutorial with DaVinci Resolve 17, the tools and concepts are the same across the board. Every app has the same basic functions, so feel free to use whichever one suits you!

This is the best beginner Tutorial I've seen yet. Great pacing. All the information you need to get going. Most others I've seen are either so slow, that you can't get yourself to watch through it or too short so you leave still not knowing anything.

Thank you Casey. I've tried to use Resolve, Premier Pro, Vega and Lightworks in the past and I got things done but never thrilled with my results. Decided to use Resolve more and came across a number of your videos as I was looking for help editing. This is perfect! I had found another tutorial and he went so fast and wasn't explaining what each item was and I tried so hard to follow but I was lost! With this, I just spent 1.5 hours following along and editing my very first video! While it's not professional, it looks a lot better than anything I would have uploaded by myself! And given that my videos will feature a lot of cooking, I loved the analogy! I'm now ready to upload my very first video on youtube tomorrow. THANK YOU!

You taught me more in one 1/2 hour video than I've gotten in ten or so other videos the same length or even longer! 😎 How to use the I and the O; as a shortcut; so you don't have to drag the entire clip into the timeline is something that I was wondering about in Videopad. Im using filmora and am doing a lot of this self taught but you've actually given me a lot of reassurance that I'm moving in the right direction. I went on the advise off this video for beginners,and it turned everything around for me ,now I’m on the walkthrough video by this same guy and it worked for me, I can now put my drone footage and camera footage together with ease,,I’m only 5 weeks inn but it’s all coming together now and if I said I was confused at the beginning it would be a understatement,,thanx for posting these videos, I will post my first video when I’m confident enough that it’s watchable ,thanx again.

This is a great video to get people going with editing in DR. I like to tinker with things and had sort of worked out a lot of these features for myself when editing some recent footage. When I say 'worked out' I mean I was jabbing at buttons, doing basic cuts, edits, fades, etc. and getting some sort of result, I now know why and what I am doing and a whole host of shortcuts. I'll take a look at some of the other videos as I need more advanced features.

One thing that has saved me A LOT of time making my own videos, is to do several takes of something in the SAME video. Now that I know a little more about how video editing works courtesy of your video, here, Casey, I can use this strategy to much more avail. I USED to take multiple videos because I would mess up, or couldn't think of what to say next. This allows me to use the Extravert's strategy of just adlibbing a bunch of things in a row until I hit upon what I want to say. This is what a lot of people do in normal conversation. And I can't see why it wouldn't work in the case of making RU-vid videos, as well. Peace Love and Light, ~ Dave M. ~
