i got a complete Logitech G27 from a guy for 100$ a while back. still having a blast in Assetto Corsa to this day. If you don't wanna spend fat stacks for a higher end rig, the G27 is more than enough for fun and you can get used for dirt sheap. Highly recommend it
Sim drivning can actually make you a better driver I started drifting in for a horizon 4 with sim and when I got my car back I actually drifted better then I hade ever done and I lost my driver license for 6 months so I didn’t drive a real car and when I got it back all my friends were shocked that I drifted better then ever before so it was kinda fun :)
@@trentwadsworth9921 I live in Charlottesville VA. Saw an ad on FB market place (from private seller). Had to drive an hour to get it. Totally worth it 👌
This video definitely came at the right time for me. I was thinking about a nice father and son bonding project during lockdown which wouldn’t break the finances too badly and this fits the bill nicely👍🏼
I was about to give up on getting the G29 steering wheel and the play seat challenge because I was looking into those before I saw this video. As soon as you mentioned those things, I got excited because you confirmed that they were good for starters. Keep the great content coming 🤟🤟
@@gler5136 damn bro that was two years ago. But yes I ended up getting it. Just that gave me a whole domino effect of things. Started on the ps4 then played on the ps5. And since I was interested in racing and sims, my dad told me he knew a guy who worked with race cars and had a sim so he got me a job with that guy. I was able to go to the tracks in Sebring, Daytona, Atlanta, Jersey and The Carolinas. Had my fare share of racing related stuff. And it’s funny cuz it all started with this wheel. So actually thank you for making this video.
I think there’s a misconception that iRacing is some kind of end-all be-all for sim racers. There’s actually a lot of issues with the physics, particularly when it comes to how the game handles oversteer. And the price tag for it is pretty insane. I also would absolutely not discount the quality of AC, ACC, rFactor, and Automobilista 2. I would put all of these (especially ACC) on the same level as if not better than iRacing.
It's not because of the simulation quality that iRacing is "the end all be all", it's the quality of competition. It's just soooo much better racing online in iRacing that any other sim, by miles. The skill, the courtesy, the clean driving, the race craft. iRacing can't be beat.
@@IdealMediaChannel this is true, with games like Assetto Corsa finding actually competitive lobbies with people who are at your level is nearly impossible, whereas with iRacing you can do it without a problem
@@IdealMediaChannel I second this. I race a lot, multiple times a day many days and Iracing has the most choices and fullest lobbies. No it is not cheap but I don't fine it overly expensive either. I have been doing it for about 4 years so with subscription and content purchases I spend about 17 bucks a month and think it is well worth it as I can sit down anytime of day and find a good race with multiple splits. You ref'd about it being cheap vs real cars and so true. I road raced motorcycles for a few years and 3 sets of tires cost more than everything I have spent on Iracing and you might get 1 weekend out of the tires....lol
@@lovethedogsNC I am now curious your setup and how much everything cost, I have never done iRacing but I am getting my first wheel the G29, just ordered for $180 new
@@lovethedogsNCI’m still racing bikes and wouldn’t change it for anything bro I’m more on street kinda guy but don’t mind track days either and you are correct if you want good set of tires for your bike you paying anywhere from 600 to 1k a set and if I get whole weekend I’m happy but unfortunately not the case😂😂😂
I would love to build a setup for two-player racing. I think it would be fun to go head-to-head against friends. It's fine to set up a racing wheel and share it with friends, but to be able to go against them in a race (like at an arcade), that'd be a blast.
@@MarksterC You can do it in Iracing and the other sims. Both join and have your rigs at your house then one of you just "hosts" a race and set a password for the session. You can talk via the in-car radio's in real time. Hosting a private race on Iracing is like 50 cents to $1 (seriously) and you can set the entire format (within reason). Laps, Q format, Weather, Time of day.
Fantastic idea! Remembers me of the Arcade Racings :) Let us know, if you have found such a Rig, or do you have build it for yourself! Thx (You can make probably a bizniz out of it... ^^)
For beginners, the thrustmaster t150 is a real good option. Its a relatively cheap option and the pedals can be upgraded. I have used the wheel for 4 years, multiple times per week and ofcourse it had its wear and tear after that. However, it still worked fine!
When I started sim racing I made my cockpit from an old tread mill frame. I used plywood to cover the frame. Used my folding boat seat to sit on. I had a Logitech Driving Force Pro wheel. Now it's a GT Omega Art cockpit, RS9 seat and a G Pro wheel. There are more expensive options but this is good enough for me. I really enjoy sim racing.
Hello matey, do you know if The Crew 2 is halfway decent to play on PS4 with the g39? I want to buy the game but I don’t know if it’ll be worth playing with the steering wheel
I got a friend of me really into sim raceing so he started to build his own sim in his off time. He made itr comepletly out of metal and paid 120€ for the material. So if you are able to do it yourself just do it it saves u so much money its insane :D
I have the Thrustmaster Ferrari Spider Wheel (can't remember the full, correct name) for the Xbox. I love it. It's a major improvement from the controller. It's not like the Logitech wheels (which are very good), but it is still very fun to use. Comfortable, grippy, easy to remember controls and buttons.
My set up for the last 3 years = PS4 , G29 , VEVOR stand , rubber floor mat ( like the ones used behind a parts counter ) a wooden box that I made and an actual car seat got a pair for free used the passenger side because it was in better shape. Great video 👍
Sometimes the algorithm gets it right. I wasn't even planning on getting into sim racing but I saw this video and was on Amazon 10 minutes later buying my first steering wheel & pedals 😅
I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO GET INTO SIM RACING, ALREADY GOT THE PS BUT DAYUM NOW I WANT THE PC. I'M STARTING SOON. THIS WAS A DOPE VIDEO, IT ANSWERED EVERY QUESTION I HAD ABOUT SIMS. THANKS CHAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great set-up Squidd! I really appreciate all the information that you presented, with some insightful options. My set-up was done with an X-box, a 55” plasma, some 2x4’s and a semi-decent wheel. Nothing like yours. It does make a difference mounting your controls. I loved the video. Brilliant idea.
Sounds like a great setup though Kellington, I wanted to build a DIY rig but living in this tiny apartment I didn't have a place to be chopping lumber/plumbing.
HEADS UP: The G29 has an adjustable spring, the G920 does not! If you dont like force feedback, the G29 will allow you to set how heavy road/engine feedback feel, whereas the G920, unless its programmed in the game, you'll have to remove the spring entirely. Just something to look out for! Asseto Corsa does not have this option as I found out the hard way :)
@@RushhhBTS I'd assume he's saying there is a difference, I think he wanted it off and it's on because of the way he said you would have to remove the spring and learning the hard way. But if he replies with what he means ignore my stupid ass comment.
Because of this video, I got into Sim Racing. Thank you for making this !! I've been doing this for a couple months since I've watched this video for the first time. I'll upload some races soon !!
Just make sure you have the space for these setups. I bought The G29 setup and my shifter doesn't hold onto the glass table top very well, but is still a great choice. At the very least you can get an ACTUAL car for the price of what worthwhile sim racing setups cost for PC so you have to ask yourself would you rather have the real thing or a fake setup. I have about 1,500 dollars in my project car and its drivable. That's close to the same amount of money as a quality:PC, wheel, chair, Pedals and shifter, handbrake is generally sold separately.
Yeah but how often do you drive that $1,500 project car on the Nurburgring? I used to build and race cars, and my ~$2,000 setup let's me "race cars" unlimited for what it cost me to run my project car for a weekend!
@@IdealMediaChannel I drive it every day. Maybe not the Nurburgring, but small town America IS my Nurburgring. There's nothing in Europe that you cant find here. At the very least my car could get me to see the ACTUAL Nurburgring. A chair and computer doesn't take anyone anywhere. I love my G29 and Asetto Corsa. I love video games. But when it cost nearly the same as the real thing, there's a clear winner. Getting out and driving wins everytime.
There’s also the Flashfire racing wheel and pedals set for anyone looking to start on a cheap setup. I bought my Flashfire wheel and pedals for $125 and it works on ps4, PC, ps3, and Xbox 1. It comes with a manumatic shifter that you can use for manual shifting and also has paddle shifters. Each button on the wheel is also configureable! I would recommend that wheel but a warning: it does have a 1 second command delay for the wheel and pedals. If you’re okay with that, then this is a perfect wheel!
I got a Logitech G920 in very good condition with the shifter and a whole rig (NextLevel GTEXTREME) for around $700 AUD and I gotta say it made playing racing games a lot more fun
You Completely changed my mind about the playseat challenge, I considered it for a long time but I thought that if I will have it I will block the entry/exit to my room, didn’t know it was foldable! Thank you so much I might consider buying it! This video was so helpful!
thanks for making this video. I feel like investing my money into sim racing not because I wanna be competitive with it, but I just want to enjoy driving as well as enjoying my golden years with it without having to spend thousands of money on buying a car (including the other expenses you have with owning a car)
My starter wheel was the PXN V900, it was a really nice feeling and affordable wheel for only £125, and if you do have another £75 then you should get the PXN V9 basically a next-gen version of the V900
I mean, if it worked for you, then fine. But the point of this video was to not get cheap wheels without force feedback so you can have a much better experience.
You can still go cheaper. The Logitech Driving Force GT isn’t a bad wheel. I actually prefer it to the G29 imo. The pedals admittedly aren’t as good but are fine if your not planning on using a clutch pedal and the wheel is quite noisy when it’s turned. I use mine on a Playseat that I picked up for £75 on an EBay Auction a couple of years ago, which also came with a Logitech Driving Force wheel and pedals that I sold off as I already had the wheel and pedals. Connect that to a PC and your away. Another cheap Alternative for PC is the Microsoft Sidewinder force feedback wheel.
FYI, if you think you will end up upgrading. DONT GO LOGITECH, Get a thrustmaster tmx, it’s a FFB wheel and goes with all of thrustmasters ecosystem so if you want to upgrade you will have WAY more choices then Logitech,
@@IdealMediaChannel PC2 is AMAZING in VR if you have the pc horsepower to run it. No other game gives you visual feedback at the same level. When you brake, your view shifts forward as it would. Makes you almost feel like you are jostled around.
as an absolute beginner this video helped a TON and the actually video was amazing to just watch its was extremely informative and very entertaining i can safely say that you got me into sim racing
Own an Xbox One. Will be getting the series X when it comes out. I’m going to get a racing wheel for that. Can’t wait. I would recommend it to people that love playing racing sims with friends. You could do a lot of challenges in Forza Horizon 4 or Motorsport 7. And if you also want a realistic racing sim, the best game I could think of is Project cars. Snowrunner is a awesome off-road game for those trucking and off-road enthusiasts. I love my setup and can’t wait to upgrade it with next gen consoles and a racing wheel
For me now the G29 is a bit too expensive. So I started with a ‘good reviewed’ 50 dollar wheel-pedals-shift changer combo. After 2 months, and it’s really good.
find a second-hand one, they would be cheap and in good condition. Trust me so many people get a wheel for Christmas for their kids and they use it once or twice...
If you are *worried* of building a PC yourself, I suggest finding Private PC builders. Why? Well even though it is fairly more pricey, you are getting more out of your money. $650 for those PC specs aren’t bad but you can get better though. Thanks for the video mate. Loved every bit of it
sim racing for life,i asked my dad that i wanted to learn how to drive manual. he said ok. the very next day he brought a wheel setup for my PlayStation, so i practised and when i went to drive his actual car. i did amazingly
I got logitech G25 complete set for 20 bucks. The lady said her son grown up now no time to play. I have been searching everywhere for about two yrs to find a very cheap g25 g27. Found it today. Yay.
One of my classmate’s capstone project for computer engineering was making a sim. He was able to 3D print and design a pedal, wheel, and shifting setup to work with forza 4. He even was able to code force feedback into the wheel. It was a pretty good project
Ideal Media when I go back to school in 2 weeks I can show you the setup, but it’s pretty much just a bunch of electronic switches under each gear which then maps to a specific gear in forza’s settings
I got a Secret Lab gaming chair, I recommend you guys get a fixed chair, don't have to get it right away, but overtime you will find the chair moving to be annoying when you really get into sim racing. I also find using the VR headset to be much more immersive and a enjoyable experience. Just some extra stuff you can get if you really want to get into it.
For 2024, second hand Xbox one s for £100, second hand Logitech g920 for £100 (or even below, or one with a cockpit or gear stick for £150) and you can easily get a sim racing set up for under £200 including the console
Actually you can get a whole sim racing cockpit setup to start out for around 500 dollars. And if you have a ps4 or ps5 and a tv plus some racing games you're only gonna pay around 500 maybe 550 for a great beginning setup
Id recommend the Thrustmaster T150. Doesnt get enough attention for how good it is. Better FFB, more degrees and thrustmaster has the best addons for the wheels
To add up on original comment, of you are on Xbox get Thrustmaster TMZ which is basically the same wheel but for Xbox. If you are on PC get whichever you like more since they both work on PC. Also it's better to get pro variants of these wheels since they come with way better pedals. Also the TH8A shifter is way better than the Logitech shifter but it's also a bit more expensive
I prefer the Thrustmaster T150 Pro over the Logitech G29 mainly because the Thrustmaster Force Feedback is better and Thrustmaster has a better and more open ecosystem. Just food for thought overall. Make sure to get the Pro one, though. Overall it seems that 1000-2000 bucks seems to be the cutoff for getting really into it without going into the extremes. Minus the PC and games costs of course. Stuff like Direct Drive Wheels, vibrating rigs, VR glasses, 3 monitors is for the extreme end of things. You can get a high quality shifter and pedals for below 200 each. A stable rig for 200-500 or even DIY. And then there is simply just the quality wheel that is another 600-1000. Which is why I think the Thrustmaster is a better starting point as you can add the Shifter and replace the Pedals without any ecosystem issues. The wheel itself is better than the Logitech one so it's not the biggest deal that that's the last one you gotta replace for higher quality.
Having made this mistake, I'd highly discourage anyone from planning on clamping a wheel to their desk and sliding the pedals under, and calling it good. The correct seating position, as well as stability in a proper rig is almost essential for the whole experience.
YES,YES,AND YES!! MORE CONTENT LIKE THIS. I have been playing REAL RACING 3 on my phone (Moto Z 2 Play), and I am hooked! I know its not a PC based sim/game,but it gets my blood and sweat going! based on your knowledge and exuberance,I plan on dropping some money on a setup. Thank You Sir!!
I have a Logitech G920 and it's been great. It's a much better experience than using a controller. The only problem is that the brake pedal is too stiff.
having a house being built and having cars as a hobby is very expensive. Wanna still race but cant afford to fix the race car every time it breaks. Cant wait to build my own rig now and save money with sim racing!! Ive got so many spare parts, seats and gear laying around that Im gonna have so much fun using and making this rig very personal!
I have Iracing. I love it. The prices for the membership and then having to pay for tracks and cars can be obnoxious. Other than that, I love it. It has kept me entertained during the pandemic 👍🏻🏁
Thanks for the advise bro.. squiddy ( I tend to forget a lot of stuff sorry) I already got a gaming computer and I got Raceroom. Now I just have to finish the new school year with high honors (it's basically students who has every grades above 90 out of a 100) so my mom will buy me the logitech steering wheel but I want to buy it by myself since my mom and dad already bought my computer with their own money and I don't wanna ask them again so right now, apart from studying, I'm trying to grow on twitch and youtube Edit: Bros if you really don't have any budget to spend on games, Raceroom is free
You can find g29 for 150 nowadays. As well as t300 and t500 for 200 (less value for money, but better) PS4 used go for As low as 150 with controllers which is kind of crazy, but you have to pay a monthly fee to play and that cost really adds up and i regret getting it, PC is indeed the last stop for aim racing. You can buy any super cheap wheel with force feedback like a driving for gt (which i and thousands of other swear by)
Bless me with this simulator, I'm in the refugee camp there's no distractions, people are really depressed,, you can put a smile on our face if you blessed us with this simulator please. Thank you Sir. I'm in Africa NAMIBIA osire refugee camp. God bless you
So about 20 years ago, I had a Sparco seat from my car while it was in the shop, and I got a Logitech steering wheel and pedals and then mounted it all to wood and just kept recutting til the geometry was right and it worked great! And like maybe $60 worth of wood and a fist full of nails. But if you got a junkyard seat that would work great too! Certainly much cheaper and easy to do if you’ve got some tools and have the patience to actually just do it.
Do the manual transmissions actual feel realistic? I LOVE shifting gears in real life, so being able to do this all day in my house sounds too good to be true!
My first racing wheel is the Logitech g920 on xbox and it’s a really good purchase I recommend it but you can not change the wheel that it comes with have fun gamers 👍🏽
Is it only the wheel or you also get the pedals (acceleration, brake, clutch) and The place where you mount the wheel? Also, does the wheel come with paddle shifters?
I'm still using a 23 year old MS steering wheel without FFB and attached an old controller with tireps on it to get some extra buttons. The reason I bought a non-FFB steering wheel 23 years ago was its durability.
That is really interesting! I think it'd be cool to have a cheap setup someday and after watching this, it'd certainly cost more than I thought. Still, cool video and great incite!
i have a ps5 so i hooked up a stick shift, and a g29 wheel and pedals. i play alot of asseto corsa and the crew 2. REALLY awesome setup with the wide monitor, highly recoment, it cost me close to 450 for the whole thing because i got a cockpit because i dont have a desk to mount anything on
The Thrustmaster T150/T300 are really underrated. In my opinion easily the best bang for the buck. Logitech is just rebranding the G25 for more than 10 years now lol
IRacing is a sim, Gran Turismo and all that are just video games. Sim Lab is a great rig option. Fanatec makes some of the best wheels, pedals and all that. Their stuff is on another level from Logitech and Thrustmaster. I'm the type of person that goes for higher end, so I only have to buy it once and it lasts a long time.
@@IdealMediaChannel I started with Fanatec because I didn't want to have to switch and after playing IRacing with it on someone's system I knew that was the only way to go. The best or nothing LOL. Have a good Dell Alienware. Now I need more space for a rig!!! I think R Factor is a pretty realistic game and the F1 series.
For the rig I recommend going to Lowe’s getting some wood and going on marketplace and buy a Miata or 350z seat or something and a tv wall mount and make a rig yourself
I'm getting a PC but I have to build it. Probably gonna play forza 5 when it come's out most of the time with a logitech g29 wheel. It's a dream come true for me.
i would say: if you wanna start/look into it go with the logitech ( if you find it cheap) and if you wanna upgrade go for fanatec with direct drive. . . . . . . . . . Bonus: iRacing cost over 1500 bucks if you want everything.
Big time budget iracer here and great info sir! People over buy the processor more than anything. PC Rig Build: I am late chiming in on this but it may be timely. You can really put a PC together so cheap that will run Iracing. I still run an I-7 3770 with 16g of ram and a GTX1060 and while I cannot run "High" details on everything It still looks very good. You can pick up a used on like this for 300 bucks here. Most bigger areas have a guy on craigslist refurbing stuff. Graphics card: For the card I would go higher than my GTX1060 but with crypto prices dropping used cards are abundant and cheap. Something like a 3060 or 3060ti would perform great and can be had in the 300-400 range. Wheel: I started with a G29 wheel and pedal set just as described and have right @ 2000 races on the wheel. The pedals never let me down either but I realized they were the first thing that needed improvement. The logitech pedals sensors are 4bit which means you have 4095 increments of braking in the travel of the pedal. I had a hard time with the more fine brake modulation as I got better. So I bought some Fanatec CSL Elites (V1) with the load cell option and it made a huge diff. These have 16bit sensors so the same brake travel distance is now divided into 65,535 increments so now I have 16x finer increments vs the G29 pedals. My irating went up without a doubt, I was a ~1800-IR, I am a ~2800-IR now. Now some of the improvement was just time on the sim but some was for sure the brakes. I still run the G29 wheel and have no real issues with it. The sensor are equivalent to the upper tier but i would like to have better FFB and I bet the G29 has some latency I am not aware of. If you have the skill you can be a 3000+ IR guy on a G29 wheel and upgraded pedals. Fanatec has a 1 pedal set now for 79.99. It is not a Load Cell but you can add it and the third pedal for under 250 I think.
