Kenny, you're most likely going to see that car back in a month or two. That engine is suffering from VCM (Variable Cylinder Management "ECO" cylinder pause) induced oil burning, plug fouling, and ring sticking. This happens on cylinders 1-4 as they are the ones that are shut down during cylinder pause. Check Alldata as there are numerous bulletins out on these J35 engines for re-ringing the cylinders 1-4 to resolve it. However, defeating the VCM (using a VCMuzzler, VCMTuner or similar device) and replacing the plugs will allow the engine to run on all 6 cylinders and will usually clean up the rings over time and resolve it. An oil additive to help clean up the rings might be helpful, as well, but usually defeating the VCM will resolve it and allow that engine to give many more miles of service.

Thanks for longer video. I never throw out the old extensions for when i need a really long one. The plug gap would only stay at where it was set going in for a short while anyway. I use a rubber hose to set the plugs back in the hole , then the socket for the hand torque. VW uses that rubber plug at the top of the coil that causes more headache than Honda’s studs and nuts. I have left tools or parts under the hood and went back under the hood looking for the rattle

Kenny, It’s the VCM that is deactivating the rear bank of cylinders. The bores are becoming glazed. This will happen again. Eventually the rings will freeze and send more oil to the cat. Do your customer a solid and deactivate that dang VCM. There is a product called the muzzler 2 that will fix this. Enjoyed Vid.

I liked this longer video especially since I own this same vehicle. I leave the engine cover off because mice love to sit under it and eat nuts and poop there. I was going to change the spark plugs as they are about due for a change and now I know what I am getting into. I check my oil regularly and noticed the dip stick has to be pushed in until it clicks in place for it to be seated to get a good reading. Thanks for the tips. I enjoy your demeanor and your tips.

With a Honda or Acura V6, you have to synchronize the plugs, timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt (if needed) and definitely valve adjustment On top of the coolant and oil change With the valve cover off, may as well put new valve cover seals and check that plastic pcv for brittleness 😊

Yep.. Good ol honda vcm. ! New plugs will help for awhile but with that mileage the vcm activation will foul them fairly soon. Rear bank on v6 . Along with glazed cylinder walls and Honda extreme low-tension rings that engine will destroy the cats. [ oil !]. If the engine is shaking it's due to the constant misfire shaking the motor mounts and destroying them.

That engine has a service bulletin for piston rings clogging due to cylinder management. The fix is the Re-ring the back three cylinders 1-3 and possibly the number 4 if compression is low. Cylinders 5-6 do not deactivate so they are not affected. plugs will last 15-20 thousands miles and will repeat concern once fouled. BUT the cost of spark plugs every 15-20k is way cheaper than a Re-ring. Choose wisely.

I can tell you that one of the things I have liked best about your videos is that the havent beat around the bush and wasted my time. I don't want to watch another mechanic change his oil, or replace plugs unless there is a point to it, and something to learn.
