How do you use astrophysics (or physics in general) in your everyday life?
@mobius_one
@mobius_one 5 лет назад
While driving, I accelerate at the bottom of a valley between two hills, and coast over the top. This was always reminiscent of how it is more efficient for a spacecraft to accelerate at perigee, when it is moving fastest. I'm curious if this is actually a more efficient way to drive.

In November 1999... a Wednesday, I mentioned casually to my mother that we were going through some rocks in space and that we could see a meteor shower, that night I was tired and went to sleep... then later on at 3:00 am She woke me up and told me to come along to the terrace. There we were, me and her, watching lots and lots of "falling stars" everywhere... I was in Venezuela at that time so it was at the exact same time, I realize now, that Neil was at the Brooklyn Bridge watching the same thing... that moment was precious to me, for many reasons, and more so because she is not with us anymore, and remembering all those great things we did together makes me smile.

Order of popularity should be in sync with order of priority. Sexy drug addict whores get far more attention from humanity than science. Were only technologically and scientifically advanced because of a small group of people who have they're shit straight. Most of humanity is actually responsible for the opposion of advancement and the slowing down of the achievement of goals like preserving and protecting the planet and getting us to someplace else before the planet can no longer sustain life.

I once had an experience of wich i was glad that my best friend was with me and also saw it happen because the thing was so unbelievable that they even put that sort of things in movies or fairy tales. But i once when i was just turned in my begin 20s i had a girlfriend and we just got to go together for a short time so it still was exiting and because she was just 18 and a careful mother she had to be home before a certain time, but because we were in love she was way too late so me and my best friend and his girlfriend walked home with her so she would be safe. And the moment i kissed her goodbye and opened my eyes i saw a shooting star in the sky!!!! I was just stunned and couldnt believe it and the moment i turned around my best friend just started to say wooow at the same time as me. I know most people wouldnt believe it when they hear this story but it was very very real and i am not the only one who knows it, even my girlfriend then who didnt witness it didnt believe it. For a short moment i thought it was a sign but that relationship just didnt work out and it was just extreme rare coincidence.

Mandatory Uranus joke. Apologies in advance: Science: "Uranus got slammed hard, which explains it's axis" General Public: "lol, he said Uranus got slammed hard" New Tinder line: "I'll slam uranus so hard, it'll change your axis"

There is so much synergy here. I always knew Russell Peters is smart because he makes very astute observational jokes but seeing him here genuinely wide eyed interested enough to formulate his own questions just makes this that much more fun to watch. Next guest... I propose The Rock Johnson talking about space and earth rocks (hahaha!)

I think the frequency of discoveries increased when we started issuing patents. They are quite the incentive.
@kjetilhvalstrand1009
@kjetilhvalstrand1009 4 года назад
I think that decreased slightly, most stuff we get this day are things that use technology invented in 1600’s, 1700’s, 1800’s and 1900’s. sure making discoveries now but gets harder and harder to find something new, sure we eventually have cleaner energy, get other planets and get better understanding of different environments in solar system. Until now their lots things that has not been looked as economical beneficial, climate change will change focus, and maybe take technology in different and new directions. So maybe you are right make it will increase a bit.
