I had one of these back in the 2000s when I was totally skint and with 2 young kids to feed and get around. I bought it solely on its price BUT when i was in a tough spot that car never let me down and was reliable. Seeing this car now makes me think of those miserable times but without the car i would have been in big trouble. its a good car which changed my view of Citroen.
I've owned 2 of these. Engine 1.6 liter 8v with ABS and A/C. Really a very solid and reliable car, very cheap maintenance. I've sold the first one at 340.000 Km still running smooth, the other one currently has 145.000 km and it's almost perfect (first one was Nov/1999, the second one Jan/1999). I would definetely recommend this car!
Xsaras had a massive boot wich mase rhis car very useful and multi purpose. One of them, a 2 liter version, was the first European hybrid car ! Too bad it was never released.
the respect you're giving this car i just cant--- this is one of my favorite 90s cars and just ahh. sadly didn't get these iceland so i can't save one myself proud of you for rescuing it and nice to see an early pre-facelift being saved!
Here in Spain these cars are everywhere and are cheap, beaten up and considered rather ugly and non-desirable from an enthusiast perspective, but it's always cool to see people from other places apreciate them
@@PSPMHaestros I have a Phase 2 Xsara but with the 90hp 2.0 HDI engine, and I love it, and the car is tireless! It is 20 years old, I started working almost 4 months ago, I have already put 7,000km on it (it has 240,000km), and every day, it starts at the first try, even in temperatures of 47 degrees under the sun, the air conditioning has not been repaired for more than 14 years old and in less than 30 seconds it was already blowing a lot of cold air, unlike my father's 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander that always sleeps in the garage, it has failed 4 times in less than 1 year.
This car cant be saved...:) The main structure is rusted into powder. You can buy decent ones for 1000 euros, and it would take much much more (if even possible) to make this particular one MOT ready. In mainland Europe many of these is still running daily - most of them post facelift though. Im not a big fan of Citroen but the Xsara was a pretty reliable and good looking car IMO. However (maybe fortunately) it doesnt feels and drives like a french car, it feels more german than any other Citroens..xDD
It's funny to see people calling the Xsara an exotic car in the comments, in France most of the people think this car is trash but i personnaly think it's not the best car but it's a great one. Great job fixing it 👍
Great Citroen. I wish I had one of these. I like its color and the condition it has been kept in. Remember, next time open the radiator cap slowly and not so immediately. Good thing you didn't get burned.
My mom had a 2.0 HDI, it was such a comfortable car, I kinda miss it, the major complain was the noisy engine, I currently have an mk1 Citroen C3, with a 1.4 HDI and I love it too, it's quite a quirky car :)
That's cool. To be honest I had to choose my frist car between Xsara (facelift) and C3 mk1 (facelift). I ended up with the C3, 1.4i 73 hp cuz I prefered an Euro 4, but I gotta say, Xsara is so confortable🙃
I am not a fan of the French, honestly. But I must admit, the Xsara, the Saxo, the Peugeot 106,205 and 306 are marvels of their time. Had it had its rust issues solved back then, it would still be a very decent looking, relevant little car today. But now.. it is only a shadow of its former self - not bent on dying, apparently.
You will have to make the sills and probably the floors in this Citroen and this car is ready for further driving. These engines (XU, TU) are the best engines in the history of Citroen and Peugeot.
That is definitely an interesting car, and this is the first time that I have ever seen one. :) All cleaned and patched up, I bet this car would look beautiful! :)
Cutting those rockers off and welding on some new ones would honestly make that car look about new. That motor barely has any kilometers on it. It wouldn't take much to get that car perfect.
When i saw the thumbnail i just had to click , i have the same car , except mine is diesel. Still runs and in my opinion has a very beautiful chasis what a car!
What a maschine! Wonder Car! Still runs like a champ. They don't do them like this anymore ;( I can't believe some fools basically threw away such astonishing ride. Owners should be ashamed !
This is what you get from winter in Estonia. Checked the licence plate and it was bought new in Estonia in 1998 and in 2011 is flag from MOT as "too much rust".
I had 2003 xsara break with 2.0 HDI almost 10 years ago and it was good reliable car, affordable but unfortunately some electrical failures were everyday life. I am suprised with this rust. My car in 2014 had no rust at all.
@@marcuswoodgate4026 man, you don't understand - xsara was abondoned 8 years ago, it had about 15 years - it was written, that because of rust - it's strange to me, becuase body of my car after 11 years was in perfect condition
@@pawek9143 I stand by my original comment. Every car with suffer differently. Depends on a lot of factors. Just because your car was immaculate doesn’t mean they all will be.
I have the same car in 1.4i 3 door version it has only 25k kilometers it's my first car and it is great for a beginner driver. it's cheap and very comfortable . Nice vidéo 🥖🇨🇵
@@taunus1990 I bought it from an old man he traveled about 500 kilometers a year, I did 10k kilometers with it I only have an electrical problem with the ventilation the part cost me about 15 euros. The engine works perfectly
@@sel2_mer my friend i have opportunity to get an xara facelift 1.4 benzin /petrol 2002 and looking quite good with a lot of gear What you think should i get it, honestly?
Fired right up. André would be proud. I’m so sad we can’t get quirky shit like Citroens here in Canada. I was clearly meant for Europe. You do amazing work with these cars.
Which sucks because I'd buy a C3 diesel manual in "Rouge Elixir" in a heartbeat. I don't need a Fiat. I had a 500 a few years back and it went 100k kms before it blew first and third gear.
seeing this car, so many memories, had exact same one, used everyday for straight 18 years. 230k km. Hearing that overheating alarm tone still stressing.
I'm heavily biased because xsara was my first car, but I think it makes a great daily. The variety of engines offered was huge. I personally have 1.8 16v, 1.9td and 2.0 16v. The 1.9 td is for sale btw :)
I'm really interested to hear what's happening with all those cars that are getting started again and given a new life. Are they being sold to people who restore old vehicles or just stay in Flexiny's yard after the videos? 🙄
Superbe voiture dommage quelle soit autant rouillé sous les bas de caisse, sa va elle à bien démarré après 8ans de repos, superbe vidéo comme toujours je te remercie allez à la prochaine fois salut flexiny 🚗🚗🚗 ✌
I just wanted to write about this. You don't have many French cars on the channel. It would be nice to see old French cars like Peugeot 205/305/309 or Renault 19/21.Great video, but why was the ECU make a noise at high revs?
Wasn’t really a bad car the Xsara! I had so send one to it’s maker some years ago due to a catastrophic head gasket failure (1.6i) at just over 200.000 km. Sad but the owner didn’t want to spend the money on what was an otherwise good car!
That vehicle sitting in the woods long time eight years air tires new battery stick shift take men power as a team seats good condition four cylinder favorite color blue happy Thanksgiving my friend
I had the Special Edition of this car, exact same color too. Unfortunately I had financial troubles and the car was starting to cost me way too much, so I had to sell it. Great car to drive, do miss it sometimes. I now drive a 1994 Piaggio Vespacar P2 three wheeler by the way haha, talk about a difference. Love it tho.
