You should check your chain tentioner, it sounds like the chain is slapping arrount in this engine. Although i must admit the fact that it runs no matter how much rust the shell has its impressive. You should take that engine out and use it for something else, like for example a portable air compressor or a generator. Sadly the shell is gone, when floor panels rust out like that you know its done
Hello, a nice car! Those engines run absolutely forever. By the way, are parts from that (or from some of your other MB T2s) for sale? I have a MB 508D that is missing the original rear doors and hinges, and I'd be interested in a few other parts also.
Believe it or not, but i did see a video of some dude who started to restore a complete wreck like this that has no floor, sidewalls or roof anymore. And there are alot of people who restore these vans, so search for mercedes 407, 508, 608 and 613. These are the best vans that were ever made and still in use all over the planet. Now the usa was built on Ford, but the rest of the world on Mercedes.
Well, these are not the best engines, because it's a 240 diesel from a passenger car and had only 60hp and was waaaaaay underpowered for this van. The best are the 508/608 with the 3,8 liter engine that is painted green. And even better was the 6 cilinder version, and that engine comes from the truck department, so that was a strong beast with a top speed of 120kmh.
mercedes OM616 and OM617 engines are THE BEST mercedes diesel engines you could ever ask by modern standards still today because their so fucking reliable and easy to fix and they still have parts for them on the market because people love them so much and they just work and keep trucking after so many miles. and great fuel economy too! and ESPECIALLY OM616 engine parts because india still produces parts for their country using those engines under contract by mercedes because apparently diesel is very common around india because emission laws dont really mean anything to india at all tbh not even 2 stroke. the only difference is: OM616 is a diesel I4 engine and the OM617 is a diesel I5 engine.
That Indian version is Mercedes OM616 DERIVERED turbocharged inter cooled direct injection diesel engine, has not much to do with that original OM616 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rDnYigtpjU4.html&feature=emb_imp_woyt
