What actually happened when it said start with key fob. You actually had to press the button with the key fob. Like have the key fob hit the actual button. You can also do that when your key fob battery dies just a little "fun" fact

The key needs to be inside the truck or else you need to push the start button with the key for security reasons. My ram does that all the time even if I'm just trying to start it standing outside of it. Killer build though , super excited to see that first drive👌

That is going to be the most badass Dakota on the road! I’ve owned a 2003 reg cab 4x4, V8, 5 speed Sport, I bought new. In dark met grey, that was an absolute joy to drive, on an especially off road. Great towing, on one trip from home on mass, I drove to Ohio, rented a tandem axle, 16’ enclosed UHaul one way back, loaded with 40, 80lbs. knock down picnic table kits I bought wholesale off the Amish to sell back home. With 40 in the trailer was approx 5,000 lbs with trailer, plus another 12 loaded stacked in the bed, covered with two tarps, a HD cargo net and three ratchet straps, holding everything in place equaled just about 900lbs in the bed. The truck itself weighed only 4,300 lbs with a full tank of gas and me behind the wheel. So the CGVW on a Cat Scale came to exactly 10,018 lbs with a full tank of gas, tools, straps an cooler. The truck was specifically ordered to carry 1,900 lbs with the HD cargo package, plus towing package for 6,000 lbs. with a total CGVWR of 11,000 lbs.! So I was very close to the max. I had absentmindedly loaded the trailer a bit on the rear weight bias side, that actually helped end up keeping the whole rig totally level, from the trucks front bumper, to the trailers rear end! That road very well all the way home through the big hills of PA. Driving there at 65-70 mph with cruise control in 5th gear, with the 3:92 limited slip gears have me an average of a respectable 20 mpg, towing over the same route home at just about max CGVW, it averaged 11 mpg! With the cruise control set at the speed limits of up to 65 mph, with very little need to downshift, only in the longest grades in PA, was a forced to go to 4th gear, to maintain 65 mph, with the HD Tow/Haul packages the temp stayed right at 190! In hot summers heat of 90+! With the AC on and tunes blasting! It was an adventure not a trip! That netted me a cool $4,000 profit after all expenses! The truck was just barely over 2,000 miles an 2 months old! I ended up owning till I traded in 2014, for a new Dodge Charger R/T AWD. The only issue I ever had, other than brakes, shocks, tires, oil&filter, cap, wires and plugs, was warranted ball joint replacement! The dealer provided, with the ball joints from a 1500 Ram for good measure! I paid just over $20,000 for it new with incentives, then with just over 89,000 miles in 11 years, I got half my money back in trade! About 6 months later, I got a ph call from a kid in N.C., asking me if I was the previous owner? I said yes I was an asked him how he found me? He said there was an old receipt he found under the driver seat, that had my name and ph number on it, when he removed the seats for a complete detailing! He said he loved the truck an thanked me for taking such good care of it! He sent me pictures over the next couple years from The Outer Banks, takin on the beach!

With enough patience,money and time anything is possible

Congradulations on geting the Dakota to finally run again. Now the hard part is to find all the gremlins which will require a good amounts of time & patients. Make sure for leaks & temperature. Take it easy on the test drives for functions. But in the long run, the rewards will definately pay off.

Wow it blows my mind the work and effort that had to have gone into this congrats.

You can seal the ports in the abs module with small ball bearings and put fittings in to hold them in. The brake pedal sensor probably goes to the abs module.

The message means they literally want you to press the button with the key fob. It even will start your car with a completely dead key fob.

I had an issue when I had a big system in my truck I had to ground motor to chassis motor to body with 4 gauge wore and fixed my power draw issue.

THe ABS is needed because that sends the brake pedal signal to the pcm. All the modules work together. In fact you'll need that ABS module for the factory line lock to operate.

Yeah people hate on penzoil.... I don't personally use this, I use royal purple, but that special formula penzoil ain't bad.

What people don't know is that it has been tested that Penzoil ULTRA Platinum is one of the best oil you can buy. Tested by Project Farm on RU-vid

Just you know, the “specifically designed for SRT engines” just means that pennzoil paid dodge more than anyone else to have that title. I don’t personally think it’s a bad oil either way

My Dad had a 5.9RT Dakota yellow. It was on the cover of hotrod magazine eat back in the day. My Dad drove the rig for Mopar in the late 90s early 2000s. He traded his blue and white viper back to Mopar on the truck. The truck had every single aftermarket part it could have made by Mopar. It was a cool truck.

Huuugggee congrats man!! Can't wait to see the build get closer and closer to driving out of the garage. Side note (you also may already know this) but the oil filter you use on the Hellkota can also be used on the 4G Rams with the 5.7. I've been running that filter for over 3 years on my 2017.

You pre fill the oil filter so that way you don’t have to add another 1/2 quart since you’ve already filled the filter.

My dad says this is all hard. No it isn’t. If you’re lost just get pin outs for the modules and Ecuadorian and trace all the wires to the correct components. It just takes mad time. You guys are amazing for putting that time in.

yo i work at a chrysler dealership and the oil is on point, filter is one i havent seen before but the only thing i recommend for now on is to lube the gasket on the oil fliter is creates a tighter seal and this the pressure of the engine is leaks slowly trust me

I watched that swap from day one. custom fit motor the dash, console wiring harness he stripped the, hellcat and custom fit into dakota. Was a beater truck he bought looks stock under hood.

You may be able to delete the ABS module if you find out what connections close the switch. Then just run a jumper wire on the plug.

I wish they would make tiny trucks with an engine like this. I was never that into dakotas but after seeing this one in that beautiful blue my mind is changed. I want it to damn bad

There is nothing wrong with Pennzoil. I think that reputation comes from a long time ago. I ran Pennzoil in my vehicles for many years with absolutely zero issues. I have recently switched to Valvoline synthetic, mostly because it seems to be more readily available in my area

Finally got to hear it start. I was wondering the location of the air filter, will it get enough air. On the Hellcat they had the opening next to the lights that went to the air filter box.

When the key fob battery is dead you can still start by pushing the start button with the key fob itself.

Key fob battery is low. That's why it took a few minutes. It said hit start button with key because the signal is weak so instead of your finger you use the key and it would have worked right away.
