Those of us not of the UK know that this is not a Status Quo song. This song was written and first performed by John Fogerty and made it to #27 in the US a couple of years before Status Quo did it. "We Lavs the Quawe" whenever we get Quo on the jokebox in the bar. Quo get some stick, but they really were the only band to open Live Aid. Not because "Rocking all over the World" was the obvious lyric for n event that was, well, rocking all over the world, but because like them or not within 3 minutes 100,000 are all in the same rhythm space. Every artist had their own fans, and every fan wanted to see certain acts, but by the time Quo had finished their first song, everyone was there for everything. Quo get mocked for being 'more of the same on every album', but almost everything before '76 is incredible. Anyone who doubts Rossi's guitar virtuosity needs to listen to Unspoken Words off Piledriver.

Live Aid had a KILLER line up, here's some songs from that day you ought to check out. - Elvis Costello "All you need is love" He turned that enormous audience into a CHOIR! - David Bowie "Heroes" He played directly after Queen, so he had his work cut out for him... But he delivered in spades! - Teddy Pendergrass "Reach out and touch" Pendergrass had been in a car accident and was paralyzed from the waist down, he really didn't feel like performing at all that day. But as soon as he was wheeled onto the stage, he turned the crowd into a gigantic congregation. - Elton John featuring WHAM! "Don't let the sun go down on me" Elton didn't know it yet but with the special guests, he introduced a brand new super star to the world. Because according to Andrew Ridgelley, as soon as George Stepped into the limelight, he knew that WHAM! was over, George Micheal for the very first time revealed himself to the world as the mega talent he was and not just the lead singer of that Teeniebopper band WHAM! But Ridgelley also said that he never felt bitter about it.

Status Quo played their farewell tour in 1984 (I saw them play at Selhurst Park football ground), with the intention of becoming a recording-only band. They were invited to open Live Aid with Rockin' All Over the World, which was the last performance with drummer Pete Kircher, who had replaced original member John Coghlan after he left the band in 1981, and founding bassist Alan Lancaster. After that Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt recorded solo albums (Parfitt's was never released) and then a new line-up of the band was put together - still with keyboard player Andy Bown, who features in this video - and they continued to have hits and play concerts into the 2000s. A great fun band, which endured despite being dismissed for knowing only three chords.

I don't get how a band that absolutely tore up the UK charts for two decades with straightforward rock & roll couldn't get more than scant attention here in the USA.

Like many on this side of the pond, I had pretty much written off Status Quo (pronounced STATE-us Quo by the band) as one-hit wonder. "Pictures Of Matchstick Men" was all I'd ever heard by them. About 15 years ago I came across a later Quo song I liked "In The Army Now", which led to a much deeper dive into the Quo catalogue. Turns out they've had TONS of hits in the UK and Europe, BIG hits which never got any attention over here at all. They've been one of my favorite bands ever since. As a side note, I think they were also the initial inspiration for the movie "This Is Spinal Tap." Not only is the band's name similar, but the film tells the story of a band known mostly for their big psychedelic hit in the '60s who have since gone on to a harder rock sound.

Always loved Status Quo. They toured here (oz) in the 70's with Slade. Check them out Get down and get with it live.

Bro, if you haven’t heard the Isley Brothers cover of seals and crofts “ summer breeze “, you should check it out. It was sampled by a huge rap artist too

Opened Live Aid ❤ Queen were on at 6.40 pm , the classic performance 😍 Rick Parfit , in the pink shirt , was arrested in Monaco with Roger Taylor, drummer of Queen . They went to the Grand Pri and then went on what we Brits call " the piss " 😂😂🤣🤣 , getting drunk . They spent the night in jail 😂😂😂 Status Quo a great old Brit rock band. Whole live Aid day was Epic . I was there that day 😍😍😍❤❤❤

This performance in 1985, Status Quo were finished working together, they had reformed especially for this performance. However on the back of this, they were contractually obliged to make another album and so in 1986 they reformed with new bass player John Rhino Edwards and on drums Jeff Rich, as Francis Rossi (Singer and Lead Guitar) wouldn't work with Alan Lancaster (Bass Player)anymore.

Yes, you have got to check out more from them. I've seen then several times and they've been blowing the roof off for nearly 50 years because they are damn good at what they do. Try "Down Down" next.

I had never heard of the Status Quo until they were mentioned in that Teenage Fanclub song- The Concept. "She wears denim wherever she goes, she said she's going to get some records from the Status Quo". Not sure if you ever did any Teenage Fanclub song- reactions, but they are worth a listen.
