Rick the blond died on 12/24/2016. They have had a number of drummers Andy the keyboard has been with them from late 70's John the base player joined in 1985 Francis Rossi is the lead guitar and vocals is the only foundering member left. They are still touring and in 2019 released a studio albun called Backbone and it is great. some of the songs are on youtube. The shirt looks great.
Absolutely! There's no life without Quo! Still here with us - where are all the "superstars, voices of, casted bands and solists"? They're all long forgotten because there is no substance in what they call music. They mighty Quo had tons of hits and their own typical style easily to be recognized. Quo's been part of my life for over 40 years from my childhood up to now. A never ending love.
First time I have heard of this band. I am 68, first concert Badfinger 1971. Been listening to Top 40 radio, classic rock, and progressive rock channels for 50 years, how did I miss them. Thanks Jamel for bringing me up to date.
@@iainansell5930 I would've said it if you hadn't already said it! Speaking of Brian, Queen's Brian May is known as a big Quo fan who would often be shaking his locks at Quo gigs. He also guested on their cover album and on Rick Parfitt's posthumous solo album.
Simple unpretentious rock and roll . I like their version of john fogerty's "rocking all over the world " plus "down ,down" and finally "what you're proposing " . Peace out jamal .
So glad you’ve finally got round to the mighty Quo. They are a British institution that sadly the US just never got. They are the best live band I’ve ever seen. I know you like songs with messages so try Power Of Rock (live 1989) which tells how rock brings everyone together.
The frontman Frances Rossi is still alive but sadly the other guitarist Rick Parfaitt we sadly lost eventually, but it did take 2 goes to get rid of him, he died once but got resuscitated, lived and performed for quite a few more years but finally the second time it got him for good, R.I.P Rick
He recovered from his second heart attack and he took a step back from quo. He was working on a solo album which was released after his death. Not a bad album either.
@@bigdaddigaming i think it was planned that he would continue to write and record, but not tour or perform with status quo.. but yah, the sepsis got him in the end... he still owned his share of status quo, as i believe his estate now does..
Re the denim, they started off as a psychedelic group in the 60s with paisley shirts, and flares, and shorter hair, but when they reinvented themselves in around 1972, they performed in their normal clothes, and it became their image almost by accident. Seen them regularly since 1978, always a good show. One year I met up with two friends, and all three of us brandished a set of 3 tickets for their London concert - for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. So we went for all three nights. :-)
What an incredible way to spend three days. The memories are lasting a lifetime. I wish I could have been there with you people . My mind would have been blown!!!
I travelled from Canada to go see this show. Had no idea who they were and when I came back could not find any cds. Took time but finally found them and play Quo all the time. Even my kids know who they are.
I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but you are by FAR the best reactor on RU-vid. By FAR.. Love the connection you and your family make with subscribers.
The Quo are brilliant! I saw them many times at my homecity of Newcastle Upon Tyne in N. England. They used to love playing our Cityhall venue as it had amazing acoustics ( many rock bands said the same, it was a victorian building built for sound) one time, seeing The Quo they refused to come offstage at finishing time because it was such an incredible vibe & the bouncers just gave up & let them play for another hour..amazing
Loving your reaction to Quo, man - they won't win many Grammys and the pretentious music pseudo 'experts' will ridicule them because there are no deep 'messages' or they don't 'challenge their fans' or don't have 25 minute guitar solos, but you nailed it; they're energetic, enthusiastic and fun. And that's why they are adored the world over and have been for more than half a century. I've been lucky enough to see a good number of their shows here in Oz and was always left exhausted, sweaty, deafened and happy. That 'guitar dance' that you like so much is something of a trademark - check the cover of the 'Piledriver' album. Many thanks for reacting to a band I've loved since the early 70s.
Yep they were a psychedelic band then, had another hit "Ice in the sun". Had less success and morphed into full on denim rock n roll boogie. Super good
Had a few top 25 s here in Australia ;US in 60s 70s did not really rock mainly slow ballads and disco in the billboard charts i have here and a lot of country as well but very little rock
Saw them live on numerous occasions and they never failed to entertain. More UK hits than any other band. It's been nearly 60 years since the founding members met at school.
It's so good to see an American enjoy this band. I've followed Status Quo literally since I was born (36 years) thanks to my Dad. They're still going today (59 years in total) but they've had a few changes to the line up since this performance back in 1990. They've had 2 drummers since and Rick Parfitt (the blonde hair one with the white Telecaster guitar) sadly passed away in 2016 and they've now got a younger guy in by the name of Richie Malone. Out of all the members in the band today, Francis Rossi (the one with the green Telecaster guitar) is the only original member.
Jamel, please review some of the 'Two Tone' bands of the early 1980's, The Specials 'Gangsters' , The Selector 'Three Minute Hero', The Beat 'Mirror in the Bathroom'. Just like Detroit, the English Midlands Coventry, Solihull and Birmingham made cars. Just like Detroit the industry failed the migrant Black and local White workers. Out of those sad times came a totally unique form of music, a blend of both cultures. Jamaican Ska and British Punk Rock. It's angry, it's tough, it's anti racist and it's the tunes of our childhood. You really need to hear these tunes Brother!
The chemistry between Rick and Francis was always something so special and it always came through in their music. God rest Rick who left us back in2016.
I was at this gig, Knebworth 1990. I was way to young to get that waisted lol, Dirty water from this show was epic, the volume of the crowd singing the song was epic, the video on RU-vid really doesn't catch how loud the crowd really was. An absolute amazing day that will never be forgotten, the line up was mind blowing. They don't do gig's like this anymore, today's rubbish just don't stand up.
I didn't even know how they were at that time, but I recorded the entire show. Imagine my suprise - they owned that show like Queen owned Live Aid. Still listen to that set.
This band Kia the oldest other than the stones still playing. There are so many good albums and songs for you to listen to. Their last album from 2019 called backbone is the groups first album without founding member Rick Parffit who passed away a few years ago. They have a distinctive beet. They have done a few covers of other artists over the years. When they perform live on the big stage you know you’re in for a great nights entertainment. Go the Quo.
I see you have the T-shirt. 😄 We partied to this music in my teens. And still it rocks. Not many months, since I was up with my friend, watching this group, on a big screen, playing it loud, and drinking some beers.
A great underrated band!! They never received the "popularity" that they should have and that is a shame. Now that you have found Status Quo.. PLEASE PLEASE check out their 1968 hit "Pictures Of Matchstick Men". It is a bit more psychedelic sounding. The live performance from back then is the best way to experience it. You will not regret it!!
I remember Knebworth 1990 very well! They bill was so good it was broadcast live on tv & I recall recording it on a 4hr vhs tape on Long Play. They did release a double DVD of Knebworth 90, but it had many many tracks omitted. I remember it was absolutely pelting down with rain by the time Pink Floyd headlined the show. Also recall Jimmy Page looking under the influence when he guested with Robert Plant. If the powers that be had any sense they’d remaster & release Knebworth 1990 on Blu Ray. Other highlights were Phil Collins, Genesis, Eric Clapton, Dire Straits & Elton John. The last show before this one at Knebworth was in 1986 which saw the last ever Queen show with Freddie on vocals which made up the majority of the audio used on the album Live Magic.
1986 I saw a concert at Wimbledon Stadium which was packed. The line up was...The Alarm, INXS, Status Quo and Queen! Has to be the best concert I ever saw. Quo were amazing! Still love their music!
First time I have heard of these guys ( I am from Canada 🇨🇦 and in my 60's) and I really like them! Could you PLEASE react to the Tragedy Hip New Orleans is Sinking. PLEASE PLEASE!! Like this band they never really made it big in the U.S. like Rush did but the are an iconic Canadian band 🇨🇦 Thanks!!
They even had fun with that. Album a few years back was entitled "In search of the fourth chord" And Rick once accidentally admitted in an interview that at least one of their songs had 5 chords lol
@@glenchapman3899 I've been teaching myself to play the 🎸 & I know around 30 chords, but can I do what they do? Not a chance! Talent is so much more than 'technique'!
I love (just about) all kinds of music and in fact have just compiled a 70's/80's disco playlist for my Truck (I'm a long distance trucker) but when I hear Quo it's like... Oh yeah As the lyrics to one of their song goes... "No fancy pants, no dinner and dance 12 bar blues give me half a chance (Rock n Roll n you) It's just basic chunga chunga chunga with good lyrics that our minds aline to on their wavelength. But they do it "oh so well" Great Trucking music .. "tootling down on the highway doing too many miles an hour"
Hi Jamal this band is still going 48 years they have been performing for , did over 6000 live gigs to an audience of over 25 million people . sold in excess of 118 millions records I think in longevity the Rolling stones have been going about 50 years but in terms of gigs i don't think their is a band in the history of rock that can match them I first seen them 44 years ago in Brisbane Australia what attracted me to them was the way they played the ball busting rock i went wow and have been following them ever since. May i suggest if you want to preview any of their other songs go for Big Fat Mumma live version
This song starts out like "Blowin' Free" by Wishbone Ash.. Now that you are digging into the Status Quo, you should also check out their British cousins, Wishbone Ash.. Request "Warrior", "Blowin' Free", "Sometime World", "The King Will Come", "Persephone", "Phoenix", or "Errors of My Way".. Consider one or 2 if you can.. Thanks.
Great band to listen to as a kid. Hope you had a good christmas jamal an happy new year. Lets hope is better than 2020. At te moment im in hospital wattching your vids with a badly broken leg in 2 places. Oh well as they say...shit happens 😂😂 but im having a boogie to your vids. HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎸🎤🎵🍷🍸🍺
I guess they're an English band. I've heard the name but don't know their songs. I'm also assuming this concert is in England. That's a ton of people, so I guess they were huge over there.
YEEEESSSSSSSS they are known for their double denim, lol. But also it was the 80's when they blew up soooooo, lol these guys ended up being called "dad rock" coz they didnt really swear, they were always clean and polite and there wasn't really any major scandal, they became kinda the level for middle of the road, dad rock, rock n roll band ........ but growing up in the UK in the 80s they were everywhere, they were HUGE and have die hard fans out there and they still pack out arena's
Francis swears all the time LOL. I mean he's not being mean about it, but his wording is just often vulgar. Like when he talked about the original line-up's reunion and trying to understand the fans' enthusiastic reactions, he described it as "to them, it was better than porn" LOL I know they became light entertainment in the 1990s.
Jamel i don't know if you know, but time travel back to July 1985 to the greatest concert there has been so far, (LIVE AID) who opened the show, obviously The Mighty Quo with Rocking All Over The World. Check it out it was Awesome. Bonus it was the original Quo (The Frantic 4).
I would REALLY love to see you react to Roll Over Lay Down by Status Quo - blind, with no research beforehand! They’re my favourite band and I love your reactions. Infact I found your videos because the son of one of the band members posted it on his Facebook!
I saw them live in 1984 when they were.... splitting up..... yes, that didnt last long. lol Glasgow Apollo. Everyone jumping up and down and there was plaster and dust falling off the balcony, there really was. The balcony was visibly moving up and down :)
I'm so glad you're doing this band! Classic Oldies: 'Paper Plane' 'Down Down' 'Roll Over Lay Down' 'Softer Ride' If you want a long one, there's a full 12 minute version of '4500x Times'. And a more obscure one: Dirty Water- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gGXQDEgDOzI.html They released a new album last year called Backbone: 'Liberty Lane' 'Cut Me Some Slack' 'Backbone' Maybe worth a listen of recent stuff. Quo are still going though one of the 'leading' figures, Rick Parfitt died in 2016. It's not the same without him but they're still a cracking band. Amazing live. P.S. They did a Christmas song called 'It's Christmas Time' Maybe worth keeping for next year ;)
Followed them for years i even have a set of drum sticks given to me by John Coulahan back in the early 70s still amazing so much memories of there gigs x
Fantastic reaction Jamel, check out BAD COMPANY and the track 'Can't Get Enough ' with the best rock singer in the world Paul Rodgers, all the best for the new year buddy, cheerio from Glasgow.
