hello again this episode is going to need a part 3 I am very sleepy I hope you're having a great day! go watch dimension 20 if you're not, i'm sure that will help! ok nite nite chels
I mean, considering the kind of people in my school, I haven't met a cool person, just a bunch of people trying to be cool and emulate a lot of... decidedly uncool behaviour
So clearly everyone coming in knew it was gonna be a Harry Potter parody, but did anyone at the table expect Brennen to single-handedly try to murder JK Rowling?
I think they do a great job of highlighting the whimsy and fantasy of the inspired media. While holding to task and absolutely roasting things they consider flaws With Blood keep they kind of hinted at Tolkien and his covert racism, having the high elves speaking proper and the orca and goblins speaking cockney. That even though these are super popular franchises with very devoted fans, they do have problems. And making fun of this is fine,
Considering the Adventuring Academy episode with Matt Mercer and the shit that Matt dug in about the power structure and Brennan did about the use of owls, nature's slowest flying bird, it was assumed that any sort of fuck TERFs and the shitty world a TERF wrote while still acknowledging that said shitty world was deeply important and formative was going to be cool. And Erika and Aabria also went ham on it. Lou also sort of get a couple of moments of being able to do so in character, and I think Danielle only got her shots in in Adventuring Party
@@lowkeylokii4205 i mean kinda, but i think for someone who has spent his entire life watching everyone he cares about die or get scared away, and then getting negged by wizards for a few days, he's doin alright
@@MenachemSchmuel I suppose. but warning wizards that he's going to literally kill them accidentally without magic by beating them to death is still concerning regardless of upbringing lol
@@lowkeylokii4205 that’s not what he was saying. He’s saying he doesn’t need to use magic to kick them to the curb. And he doesn’t want to use it. Because if he does, he can’t guarantee they will survive. So instead, he will break their legs. Because that’s mercy for him.
"DON'T TOUCH MY BLOOD!" feels to me like it came out of the same place in Brennan's mind-palace as Avanash the Bones Guy. He just has the best characters out there.
I died when Lou ( I think) told her to "...NOT bite your wand in half !" FYI..... This is an insult you can use for someone who's really dumb.... "Do you realize that you have the same amount of brains that a slug would be embarrassed to claim that it owned ?"
Brennan is so epic. His ability to be so depressing, pathetic and kind... But suddenly a dark cloud appears and he straight up becomes the embodiment of evil.
Evan: "Hell is a dark forest where your dad opens his ribcage and invites you to dance." meanwhile at another school of magical teens- Gorgug after dying and going to a dark forest: "are you my dad?" And he meets his dad at a dance.
@@completebuffoonery3925 I don't know if this was on purpose or just word association from Brennan's brain(or maybe just mine) but it that's just a theory. A (tabletop)game theory.
@@Closer2Zero honestly it probably wasn't. Later I found another clip of a teacher(or maybe a demon/devil) telling gorgug that the forest he was in was actually orc heaven. Still fun to think about though.
I'm forever dying at the others cracking Brennan up. Lou going "I have no problem with you going off on this kid" and Erika's "isshhhues". He is so used to saying wild shit while not laughing both as a DM and in Breaking News and it is the best thing to see him crack.
YES, I love it when someone manages to crack up a master of comedy like Brennan. In EXU Calamity, Sam Riegel got a full belly laugh out of Brennan over something that Brennan later categorized as one of the few "perfect jokes" he'd heard in his life. For those who want the clip, look up "Loquatius last speech | Critical Role | EXU Calamity 4" here on YT, but it's much better with full context.
"But you know what [emojis] are?" *"It's like from The Emoji **_Movie,_** Right?"* Now THAT is the SADDEST thing Evan has said, and that's saying a LOT.
Lou excitedly scribbling down "McRib" is fucking priceless and my good man should be defended at all costs "Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick... riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiib... _please."_
10:24 Jammer reacting so casually to Evan's outburst like "Now I got no problem with you going off on this kid". Is so fucking funny to me. Like hey you can roast the shit out of this kid but maybe we should talk about it
@@dylansickinger545ooof. As someone not named Evan IRL but Evan Kelp is my spirit animal, please look out for that buddy of yours... cause we REALLY need it sometimes. Like... a Jammer/Lou at the right time saves lives... real talk.
What I love about Dream is that she doesnt do the stereotypical try to fit in teenager thing. She puts on a persona she thinks will be better, which is realistic
@@diegomorones-castillo2225 I'm guessing she is trying to be authentic. It is a trend we got from Asia, so it might be how they pronounce it and that Muck-bang is the Americanized version. Would be my best guess
I know what mukbang is but I'm gonna be honest, the first time she said it in episode one I thought she said she's "doing a milk bong" and I was like SHE'S DOING FUCKING WHAT!?
Erika ishii dives into every single ttrpg role I've seen so much she's almost unrecognisable. It's fascinating and so awesome. Need to find long running stuff she's in, I think she's in l.a. by night?
@@CalamitasDeus Considering Erika's inspiration for Dream, and that Dream is implied to be a diehard fan of tumblr fanfiction, she is 100% hoping that Evan was thinking of Jammer naked.
I mean it's played for laughs, but also there are real people who do that and she's growing and getting better? 17 year olds are shitty and say dumb shit all the time
To be fair, Evan isn't particularly dark hearted (he literally admitted his dream is to be an ordinary guy that everyone kinda liked once he's gone). He's just dark literally EVERYTHING ELSE, which makes him seem it.
I love how at the end of that entire exchange, Jammer goes from “I like you enough to get it right” to “Alright Dr. B-“. Lou is a genius to imply Jammer thinking “ya know, ‘Dr. B’ will cover it even if I was saying it wrong” and make that the punchline of that whole bit.
I heard that this series wasn't supposed to have timeskips, but the pilot program spent waaay too much time just dunking on JK Rowling and other shenanigans like the ground ribs and Dream mooning over Evan Kelmp. And Aabria loved every minute of it and didn't want to railroad them back to her plot.
@@Feasco You can if you only gave Aabria like four episodes to DM. I want her to handle a full series, man. I'm not talking CritRole full campaign lengths, but at least D20 "season" lengths of 16-20 episodes. I feel like I'd really enjoy the kind of stories she could tell given enough time. And besides, if you gave Aabria 20 episodes, she could still devote like four of those to just dunking on Rowling and she'd still have enough time to tell a full story.
Yeah I feel like it almost had to end once Dream and Evan got together, having two PCs get together just seems like something that would be a little awkward to roleplay
I don't know why but even though I've never seen a full misfits and magic episode I get the feeling that Evan Kelmp is just...Brennan. As a teen. All the things he does just seems a lot like Brennan
Evan is like the Tom Riddle of the show, he's incredibly cursed with dark power, but also just wants to be a normal kid and absolutely wants none of it.
Well Brennan did say he grew up poorer than other kids, but he did have a good family. The rest of the things he added for Evan were probably from other kids at the summer camp he was a counselor for, and maybe some stories from his friends.
@@samuelr.6046 oh I’m not looking into it, I just think it’s cool! It’s really the bird facts that ticked me to the “oh no that’s just Brennan with his bird facts and and Evan is like Brennan but with waaaaaay sadder tragic backstory”. I like just seeing the Brennan side of Evan come out from time to time.
@@maurawhite5229 I understand what your saying but it's just a character and I wouldn't project any emotions to it. For example in college humor sketches theres a running joke that Katie does cocaine (she doesn't) but some people take that joke literally.
I love that Brennan has gone on the record as praising the world building of Harry Potter, because it’s world is so memorable and people to this day know what house they belong to. But he will always be down to talk shit about the horrible practices and logistics.
i love evan and his ability to switch from "yeh my friends :D" to *is legit the final boss of the final dungeon in the final pocket dimention that is in of it-self a miniture plane of hell/hel* dude goes from Betrayer god to angsty tean in like 2 secounds- and its awesome!
Yeah, but think about how stereotypically American they're being. A magic table where they can order anything they want, and what do they ask for? McDonald's.
HELL IS A DARK FOREST WHERE YOUR DAD OPENS HIS RIBCAGE AND INVITES YOU TO DANCE is a line that both makes me laugh harder than anything and also deeply unsettles me.
That look from Brennan at 10:39 that just says "Lou, buddy, I am not going to hold it together, you need to take this scene for a moment" and he steps up and takes it like a champ.
I'm wondering if the early mention of Dream and Sam knowing each other from a "Sailor Moon" fandom community is a tease to her having a transformation sequence at some point.
@@MammalianCreature did you mean to direct that at James Nash? with the presumed intended word being loli, as in short for lolita, rather than lolli, as in possibly short for lollipop? cuz what alpha reaperion said seems to be correctly spelled, if a bit chock-full of hyperbole
10:58 I love how after Evan's sad, serious story, Dream's only response is the word "soft". There are so many things I adore in this series, but I'd forgotten that little moment and it's just wonderful.
