Many times I have seen vids of self defense and other "jkd" people have the opponent too close, already in a stance or have hands up first then strike. On the street you may not have time to do all that and just like what Bruce said about being able to strike in any position yet some just ignore that and do the patty cake trap.

The community reminders makes more sense in retrospect about Bruce Lee and wc. I always thought it was "off" that he had those photos of him and Dan, in his modified wc stance , showing various responses for the same & different attacks, but no follow up explanation, photos or instruction, but thanks to IFO, it makes perfect sense. Bruce was displaying boxing & fencing principles thru a wc on-guard stance, where he started, he was about to drop in favor of a a better modified and advanced use of a boxing stance designed to use the total body as a weapon. In addition, the wc modified "starting"/stance was better suited to clearly show fencing principles because the stance was similiar to having a sword in the hand. The "energy" was used in addressing adverting enemys attack because Bruce still had a Chi Sao vocabulary based on his background, but was in the process, thru research & testing, abandoning it because of SUPERIOR and more advanced, effective , adaptable, easier, simplier , devastating, direct, faster, powerful, non-telegraphic, explosive application of Boxing & Fencing principles to modern street combat & hand-to-hand warfare. Hence, ONE of the reasons he never got around to publishing it.

Too much good stuff for free..,take advantage chaps. Even that slow 3 piece combo was fast because it was smooth, no wasted movement, polished, "sudden" , explosive and non-telegraphic.

careful how we led, it can led an art to a wrong direction. this can led others to think jkd revolves around techniques and more techniques. if look straight ahead and see a punching bag hanging, that's jkd, an art with its own muscle memory, nothing more.
