I am Japanese and the Steam Deck is my first “PC”. I’ve been primarily a handheld gamer my whole life, mostly Nintendo. I got my Steam Deck early this year, and I think its awesome! Hopefully Valve keeps this trend going and makes a new Steam Deck every 4 years or so!
@@zeroexct This type of hardware is never going to have a long-lasting battery. Full scale PC games are just too demanding for a small frame like this. You will be waiting till 2040 to get a PC handheld that has a long-lasting battery. The steam deck is awesome because it allows you to just play your PC games where you want. If you want to lay in bed, go ahead. Just keep the charger near by since it won't last more than an 80 minutes if playing a new game on high settings.
@@zeroexct good news, the Steam Deck OLED is going to have 30-40% longer battery life, depending on what you're doing. You'll need to measure your expectations on any kind of portable PC handheld though, x86 architecture was never designed to put power efficiency as a high priority. Luckily with Steam Deck, you can choose things like frame limits to extend battery life.
My wife has always been a Nintendo gamer, largely handhelds. She picked up my Steam Deck one day and never put it down. I had to buy myself a new one, as that one is hers now. Her Switch is collecting dust. The Deck is basically a console to her.
Well, the Deck is better than in almost every aspect than the Switch. Probably the only thing that is upside for the Switch is the size, no hassle on knowing which games work on it, and the detachable controllers.
Steamdeck is officially sold offline on Electro Mart, one of the biggest home appliances/electronics/hardware shop chains here in Korea. They did the whole offline launch event with disccounted price(I think it was 20%) and it sold out from all chains in Korea and currently shops are waiting for the next batch. I'd never imagined valve would actually approach offline market here.
@@iTzNice01 selling stuff on physical stores. Online launch happened last year, and didn't think they would also sell on physical stores. It kinda shows valve wants more presence in asia.
They need to PUT SHADER CACHE on SD card by default for us console gamers who bought the base model because many won’t know what to do when their 64gb is filled up with shader cache
Ya I just had to uninstall a bunch of little games to make space for the save file for Monster Hunter Rise. I then figured out I had a couple of versions of Proton GE (Thanks Wine Cellar) and that would have fixed that issue. I have plans and the money to buy a new 1TB drive this holiday. Lets hope for some sales and maybe I might get a 2TB
Cryoutilities my guy. I think even console centric gamers understand how to use Google when they don't understand something. I had no experience with pc gaming when I first got my steamdeck.
@@dtectatl1 oh, I understand cryoutilities. My point is if they want it to be appealing to console gamers not every person is going to go to that level. If they think of it like a console, they want plug and play. My point is it would have broader reach. If you didn’t have to do a third-party solution. In other words it should be baked in to the operating system so you don’t have to go Google it.
I've had a Steam account for over 8 years and had probably 5 games on it for most of that time. Playing on a traditional PC was just too much of a hassle in terms of comfort and fitting in with a family life. I got my Steam Deck last September and since then I've probably purchased 20 further games solely because of the convenience of the deck. In fact not only have I not played on my PC since, I rarely ever turn on my PS5 anymore!
Convenience is one helluva drug. I've said before and I'll say again: one web developer making a purchasing process 1 click shorter or simply decluttering the number of "editions" a game has so you don't get decision paralysis deciding on the best "deal" for you will do more for sales than garbage anti-features like Denuvo or third party launchers ever did or will do.
@@majorgnuthats my problem right now with the edged glass i absolutely want a steam deck oled but cant decide... I think i gonna wait some more time. Many things in my live happen right now. New job, new appartement. Will be easier to decide afterwards...
brilliant point you made about how this is definitely the most comfortable gaming device ever. i also almost never use my gaming pc and just play on the deck. well said! cheers
About your problem with the SteamDeck, I would do three things, go into Desktop mode, open Steam and Clean Cache "In the Settings panel, select the Downloads tab and you'll find the "Clear Download Cache" button at the bottom.". Also would try to update proton or test if proton experimental works. Could be that your proton update didn't update correctly. Also in the Steam Settings>System, now in the Console mode, there is an storage maintaince fix right at the end
If you use decky loader, see if you still get the same issue with no active plugin. I had black screens after a Steam OS update because of an incompatible plugin, i was on the verge to factory reset the device, it could be a similar issue...
I always said it makes sense. If you own only 1 TV and no monitor you have to chose. Play game or watch TV. Well the steam deck says you can grind in a game while watching tv/stream
I think the steam deck succeeded because 3 things price-2-performance, readily available library of games, and community support/updates. The reason I think the other options are not competition is that they are just hardware and the cost is just not as approachable. They may be more capable, but that is only reasonable if they continue to support that hardware. Not to mention some aspects I feel were rushed on others like the sd card issue/ placement on the ally. But lastly the steam deck was not the first handheld pc, just the first to make a affordable and capable one.
The Ally even had the gall to advertise its biggest shortcoming as a freaking selling point: it comes with Windows. Upside: better compatibility with certain games. Downside: now you're stuck managing a(nother) goddamned Windows device. Also, you're contributing to The Problem (Windows PC gaming hegemony) that continues making Windows a sad necessity for those certain games that don't run on the Deck yet for technical and/or policy reasons.
@@majorgnuyea if microsoft had at least a convenient handheld mode. Even windows 8 was bad in that world which made it a all in all bad experience on any device...
Also in Japan the used game market is pretty much buying it new. So the sales on steam is probably a shock and big factor. But I personally made the jump from Sony. Just paying to pay online (thanks Microsoft), to price increases, and continuing shenanigans, I’m just done. I’ll stick with first party games, but everything else is steam. They are more reliable, have a return policy and just frankly trustworthy. The steam deck was the final nail in the coffin that I needed and I’m sure there are lots of others. Also get the Xreal glasses. Game changer and can’t go back. Definitely a must buy with the steam deck.
I've got a playstation and psvr2. A lot of the games really are a bit lacklustre and are mostly porting the best games to other platforms (Spiderman, ghost of Tsushima, god of war) Im looking forward to project deckard for VR and have also thought about steam deck with xreal glasses.
@@-Rickster- I got the psvr2 also. That is another reason I’m done with Sony. Like you said the lackluster games and zero backward compatibility. I got the quest 3 and literally play daily and loving it. Even tho I love horizon and re village, I really haven’t gone back. FYI if you wait they are actually making an updated version of the xreal. Should be out in a few months. But yeah good luck! My job is a lot of sitting around. So the steam deck and glasses are a life saver lol.
I’m not getting the OLED Steam Deck since I’m perfectly happy with my LCD Deck, BUT, if the Deck 2 is the same price, or barely higher than it is now? I’m ABSOLUTELY selling my OG Deck and grabbing a Deck 2!
About international markets, I’m Brazilian. For reference, the Series S here sells for about 2.000 BRL. The imported Steam Deck is 4.000 BRL, or about 800 dollars. The ROG Ally was officially made available in Brazil by Asus, and goes for 6.500 BRL, or 1.300 dollars. I bought my Steam Deck on a trip to Los Angeles for half the price it sells in Brazil, lol.
The steam deck is widely available on OLX and mercado livre for about 3.000BRL. If someone's able to visit Foz do Iguaçu that can import from Paraguai for about 2000-2500 BRL. No need to pay 4000BRL on a steam deck. I've seen some used ones with 1tb SSD for about 3000BRL which is something close to 600USD. Even though the Rog Ally is officially sold here the Deck is still the best handheld PC option by a mile.
5:31 the Deck is my first PC experience as far as modern gaming goes. Was always against PC and was a die hard console guy. After the Deck experience, I sold my Series s and will never look back. My next move will be building a solid gaming PC. I never realized the options and customization available for PC gaming. Your channel sure has helped me learn a lot about the Deck and the PC realm overall. Really appreciate your content.
@@Xihrzahi cant talk about steam os right now but windows often was a very hurtfull experience. Its long time ago. Windows xp and before i often ran into problems that could only be fixed by wiping the harddrive and reinstalling windows... It took until windows 7 to become a quite stable operating system which doesnt mean that sometimes drivers still like to distract with failures...
The 40% of people mainly using their steam deck instead of their PC is awesome. I'm definitely in that category, I've taken to using flick stick wherever I can for compensate in first person titles. I play pretty much all of my online gaming with my friends on my steam deck. Remote play has even enabled me to seamlessly swap in the middle of an online gaming sessions and discord back onto my steam deck. Baldur's Gate 3 for example. I've also been playing through Vermintide 2 on remote play, with flick stick + gyro to be as effective as if I had a mouse.
I remember signing up for Steam account back in 2004 when I smuggled Half Life 2 into Japan. I may be the very first Japanese to sign up for Steam lol.
I use it mostly at home. And I love it, it's all I could wish for. I love emulation on it and having a gaming library stored on it. Also being able to play PC games is just great. It could be a little bit more powerful but it's amazing so far. Best investion this year
I don't think the current era of PC handhelds was inspired by Nintendo. Valve was supposedly working on it years before the Switch was announced, and the great grandfather, the GPD Win, was a successfully kickstarted project and released in 2016 before the Switch. I just think companies realized there was an untapped market and enough people who want the freedom of PC gaming in a handheld format.
I have a similar story to you. I had a gaming PC but it needed a new GPU. That was right before crypto took off. After 2 GPU shortages I bought the steam deck since I could buy one before I could find a GPU at a price I actually wanted to pay. Which I used my saved up GPU money to buy. So the deck is also my main gaming PC and it's really nice to just play it anywhere or hook it up to the TV or my desk. I havn't felt a need to save up and buy a GPU for my desktop PC yet.
I'm from Portugal and this week was my first time seeing the ROG Ally physically. Super cool but I would truly love if the Steam Deck was also on display
I've dabbled in PC gaming many times in the past, but the Steam Deck pushed me over the edge, and i'm now discovering the joys of PC Gaming. Even built my own rig with 13600k and 4070ti. Love it!
You shpuldnt try out moonlight streaming. You can directly stream your pc to your deck... There are other tools even in steam included but the streaming quality is a hundred times better
I am watching all of your vids, but i am staying quite in comment section, like a kurker. Today i like to tell you, that you are improving from video to video! You are such a great content creator and i love your style of cutting the videos. Your promotion clips are soooo damn awesome! You make better promotion clips than 99,9% out there, and for sure better than in original television. Keep up this great work. I love your channel. Best greetings from germany 🙋🏽♀️🥔💚
Aussie here.... I have a steamdeck and purchased it through Dick Smith online Australia last year. Not available in- store yet... 😢 but I love it 😀..... and your channel..... 🥳
If you’ve not already, I would recommend resetting your APU to fix your issue with the Deck; mine not only had that issue but also a weird one with Steel Rising where the moment something happened that made my character make a voice line whether it was a grunt from jumping or taking damage, the game would freeze but the music would keep playing. I had the same issue with Star Ocean: The Divine Force. To reset your APU, just fully power down your system, while it’s off hold vol- and the quick access button (the three dots) and while holding those keep holding the power button until you hear the little chirp the Deck makes when it powers on. Then, release the power button but keep holding volume down and quick access until you see the Steam logo. It will take a bit longer for your system to fully boot, but once it does the problem should go away and you won’t lose any data in so doing. I hope that helps!
I love my Steam Deck, but Its not even close to being my main gaming platform. I see it as an extension of my gaming desktop, for some casual, on the go gaming. I still love it cause I don't have to buy any games, just play the games I already have on Steam.
More-or-less the same for me. Though for me it has become my primary means emulating PS2 and all earlier consoles. I was surprised by how it can emulate PS2 and barely break a sweat. Also, if I have a game that runs well on Steam Deck but doesn't support Steam Cloud saves, I tend to prefer playing it on the Deck by default just so I can have that game ready for on-the-go play without manually transferring save files. But yeah, overall, I prefer to play the bigger games on my PC where I can sometimes get 4k 60fps play :)
The ROG Ally begin development around 2018, which would put its start around the same time as full development began on the Steam Deck. These devices takes years to develop, but I do suspect that the success of the Steam Deck encouraged ROG and Lenovo to get their devices out sooner than they might have done otherwise.
Japan is also the biggest market for handhelds. They have more public transportation and smaller living spaces. Only Sony and Nintendo have capitalized on that. The steam deck will be huge for them as long as Japanese developers are on board. And I can’t see why they wouldn’t be
Listening to this has made me more apprehensive about my recent decision to purchase a Steam Deck. One of the main selling features to me was because I believed Valve would be continuing to promote and support the Deck continuing to make it better. This made it sound more like Valve is pushing Steam and Steam OS for all devices and now I have to wonder with the limited HW of the Deck will Valve decide soon that they are better off to simple abandon the Deck?
I don't think so, my guess is they'll adopt the android model. Google has their pixel line which they give long software support to and special customizations but Android is also available for a bunch of manufacturers to do with as they please. I've had my steam deck for a while and I've been very happy with the support valve has given so far.
They've put a ton of work into the Deck, and even have a "Deck-verified" signifier. What that tells me is that they are wanting game devs to target performance on the current gen Steam Deck for the foreseeable future. In fact, targeting performance on a single system allows games to be better optimized for that system. Valve would not want to undercut performance optimization on their system by coming out with too many models. This is further supported by the fact that Valve has said they won't release a Steam Deck 2 until there are significant improvements to be made. In other words, they appear to be targeting the console-like lifespan.
Not if you compare the price point? I'm able to play games like cyberpunk and elden ring without problems don't really know what limitations u mean. Sure there are more powerful competitors but limited not really.
@theyorkshireguy1985 Only hardware wise, that's the nature of handhelds and consoles you can't just upgrade parts like on a desktop , on the software end, the deck is way ahead of the competition. The other handhelds run Windows, which almost negates the hardware upgrades over the deck. Yes, they have more power but are less efficient and less optimised. We are only in the first generation of handhelds and I think what valve is doing is right. They are laying the ground work first(pushing developers and creating a well optimised software) before focusing on Hardware(which is the easiest part, just outsourcing it to TSMC/AMD
No, they just dont want to enter a race and create new devices as soon as AMD proposes its newer chip, as other vendors tend to do. Valve wants stability for the developers to follow, so that they know what specification to target for PC gaming. They already have defined specs for consoles lasting 5 years or so. Remember AAA titles take years to develop and cost more and more
Just to add to that 40% statement, my steam library is pretty big, so i find many games that I hadn't even installed or played yet on my PC are getting a lot of play on my steam deck. It somehow made me rediscover my library, and a lot of these games are configurable to save battery and still get good performance. I love mines so far.
For every other deviced sold by their competitors, means more sales on the software for Steam. Competitors are also more available to other countries than the Steam Deck, meaning Steam still earn indirectly from more sale of game
I had this issue from the start. If you put the steam deck in to sleep mode during playtime and wake it up again, you just get the steam logo and can't continue to play. Sound works and you can see half of the game when you hit the ... button. This happens as well if you put the Steamdeck to sleep in the menu. When you want to play, you just get the Steam logo 🙁 My solution? Don't use the sleep mode. Turn your steam deck off every time and turn of automatic sleep mode so that your steam deck stays on for longer. Hope that it will help you! Thanks for the video! ❤
Did not see the buttons light up, but subbed anyway! Very chill and informative video! Was able to finally get one on ebay to ship outside of US. Waiting for 2tb to come in and been enjoying comfy handheld gaming
I absolutely loved the Steam Deck, but I wound up replacing it with the Asus ROG Ally and gifted my Steam Deck to my brother because of the weight. I do miss the ergonomics of the Deck though. This is something that Asus didn't get quite right.
Thank you. I‘ve literally argued endlessly with people on reddit about this. I currently own both because my curiosity got the best of me and i ended up buying an ally after owning a deck for a year. I really really do enjoy the ally, i dont even mind the software being less user friendly but god the ergonomics. Its still somewhat comfortable and you get used to it but whenever i boot up my deck to check something out i just realize how freaking perfect steam got its design.
I got both devices and the Deck is just… so good. The ergonomics made the Steam Deck special, and the fact that the trackpads are actually useful for me. Valve really hits the marks other than the specs and I love it.
I feel like stores are less likely to put the steam deck as playable in a store kiosk because they've fazed this out in most places in the US and there's also a fear of looting. Crime is rampant in big cities so I wouldn't blame corporations for choosing not to have the steam deck at a kiosk.
Easy fix. Put the steamdeck behind glass and chainlock it.... Mobile phones, nintendo switch.... There are so many other devices with the same problems perfectly fine selling in stores...
Steam Deck is my first real gaming PC. I have really loved the Console like quality of the experience. It has converted me to a PC gamer. It also made me really fall in love with Steam. I spent a ton of time organizing my game list in spreadsheets for other devices. But Steam allows me to organize games, hide games I am done with, and even hide games on the store I decided not to buy. It really has been an excellent experience! Shortly after I got a new laptop for work that can do some pretty nice gaming. It has been really fun to play my games on Deck, laptop, and even GeForceNow. Really excellent experience!
My Steam account had been mothballed for years with no hope of coming back as the Switch was the kind of device I needed for gaming. The Deck brought my account back with gusto. I have done a little with gaming on my desktop but my deck is played just about every day.
In the last few weeks I also had the problem in the stable channel that when I started a game only the Steam logo was visible. Here only a restart helped temporarily... Since I switched to the preview channel, I no longer have the problem.
Hey Bill, people are saying Disabling "Use as Wake Movie" in Customization seems to fix the stuck loading issue. settings->customizations use as a wake movie enabled
This is a great article because I am one of those people who have never played on a PC for gaming and the steam deck after months of research is my very first handheld PC. I love it.
I also had the same issue you had with the steam logo not going away and the game starting anyway and not being able to interact with it. I had to turn off "use as wake movie" in the customization section of the settings section in the steam menu in order for it to stop doing that. Will that work for everyone? I don't know but it got rid of the issue for me so who knows.
I'm not surprised by the 40% of PC and Deck owners play more on deck. I've got a office full of PCs and a gamer family (wife and kids). I find myself more on my deck just because of the convenience. Even where we're playing games together, I'm often on my deck. It's just so easy to pick up and start gaming.
Honestly, i would love it if they released an updated board. More ram and stronger processor. It probably would never happen, but with how customizable the deck is, i wouldnt be suprised if they or a third party to do it.
Same thing happened to me.the logo won't away. What I Did is enable the sleep mode and it worked. Probably disabling the sleep mode made the system thought to be sleeping.
15:48 I only wish they could get the scrolling issues right on the Steam Deck (& really *anything* Steam-based). The Steam functionality itself since launch has been so problematic & non-functional in so many places for the platform itself it's still bugging me enough to occasionally comment on it here (because on Reddit I get absolutely assaulted for even suggesting the Steam Deck can do Steam better after seeing so many updates make so many improvements to so many things that aren't Steam itself as a platform). Love my Steam Deck(s) almost as much as NerdNest. ❤
I get not wanting people to feel like "well damn I just got this thing" but I don't think that shit stop them from trying to keep up with power. That's just me a regular guys perspective they're the experts. Glad to see they're focusing on Japan though, that would actually be a benefit to PS as well as far as putting games on PC
Developers are still catching up to ps5 and xbox series and a number of games don't run at 60 there. There might not be a chip for handheld for a long time that can keep up with the moving target. Frame generation and upscaling could help as those get better, but still... The chip would probably need be at least pretty close to series s and that draws about 3 times the amount of power compared to steam deck on high end if I understand the numbers right.
i wouldnt say its my main gaming PC, i have a 4090 and enjoy using it. But SD become my main laptop for remote work, for simple web surfacing, for xbox remote play on bed, it runs 10+ hours everyday! The low power usage yet very smooth especially on windows makes me stop using my real laptop / PC for the task mention above.
Replying to your startup problem. It always seemed to happen to me whenever the deck was having trouble connecting to my local network and I ignored it and put it to sleep anyways. I started looking out for network errors before putting it in sleep mode and manually disconnecting and reconnecting my network, and hasn't happened since.
Edit- I would much rather have the ROG Ally, I'm just used to Windows, but $400 to jump into the base Deck was unheard of in the handheld PC segment, and a reasonable price for a semi-impulse buy/ justifiable for a PC owner "I can call it a new laptop"... I totally feel ya, I have a pretty beastly PC but the Steam Deck is way easier to just pick up and wake, vs. my PC when I have to pull up and adjust my chair, put my headphones on, log into Windows, open Steam, and launch a game. That alone makes me play more when the urge hits. Also, there's the fact that im not strapped in my chair in front of my monitor, I can kick back in bed and get a quick rouge-like run in, or two, before I go to sleep. I don't even have any AAA games installed on my Deck anyway. It just feels so good, like it's at home, playing indies (Binding of Isaac, Katana Zero, twin stick shooters) and the battery lasts 2 or 3+ times as long. I usually only "strap into" my PC for long sessions playing something like Doom or Cyberpunk- Mouse and KB games. AAA gamepad games (Yakuza, Nicer Automata, etc.) go to the TV via HDMI.
Call me weird but I reinstall every single operating system that I use from USB once a year. My Desktop, laptop, phone and now steam deck. I keep things stock as much as possible but I find that when I reset the devices they stay fast and have very little problems. Plus it seems like I'm getting a new device all the time. I have fun setting up devices.
I have started having that same issue about a week ago when I play Fae Farm. Game starts and I hear it but all I see is steam logo. I am glad I am not the only one with this issue.
Hey Bill. You're getting that Steam loading animation because of the custom boot animation you selected. If you disable Shuffle Startup Movie and Use as Wake Movie the issue will be gone. I had the same problem
my steamdeck didn't know how to format SD card correctly and I formated it with switch and then back in steamdeck reformat and no more issues. but might also be time to get a 1.5TB micro sd
Oh no... you just had to mention that they have 1.5TB micro sd cards now... and after I had just finally upgraded to all 1TB micros. This is going to be an expensive winter. D:
yes, the buttons did light up lol, also I thought I was one of the few that found myself playing more often on my Steam Deck than on my desktop PC, but it is interesting to hear how many people actually are
Taking their time to release each iteration of the deck is really the best practice imo, one of the biggest reasons I never pulled the trigger on other handheld PCs is because they release a better version every 8-12 months.
I have both a Steam Deck and a desktop gaming PC. Which one I use more depends a lot on the game I'm playing primarily at the time. For example, FF7R works perfectly fine on the Steam Deck, so I used that to have the freedom to play it anywhere. But Elden Ring is a little bit harder for the Steam Deck to keep up with (plus it's *so hard* on such a small screen), so I played that primarily on my PC. When I "needed" to play it away from my PC, I would usually stream it from my PC to the Steam Deck.
If they really want to target the console audience, keeping a low price is key, ease of use is also very important. What I feel the Steam Deck is missing at the moment is default profiles for games that set the controls, resolution, visual settings and frame rates to work well on the Deck, basically to offer a console like feel. I feel that would be a game changer for gamers that just don't want to worry about all that and just want to pick up and play. The irony is, it shouldn't be that hard to do, Valve could have it where as you install the game, it replaces the default config file of the game for one thats better setup for the Deck, Valve could even offer multiple options like we see on consoles that offer a performance mode at 60fps or visual mode at 30fps, in the case of the Deck, it could be 30, 40, 60 and battery saver mode they could offer. Better yet, Valve could allow the community to create these profiles and have a voting system in place for best default setup, whiles also allowing users to pick the other profiles, I bit like how they do it with the Steam Controller. Ideally, I would prefer the developers of the game doing that, but realistically, most won't do that until the sales numbers are much higher, so Valve and the community are the better option for now, most so for older games that most developers will not go back and create a profile for, this for me is the remaining thing that separates the Steam Deck from a real console when it comes to ease of use and the hardware not changing too quickly ends up being a major advantage, I also think that community driven profiles could be a better option as when a Deck 2 is released, the pace of games getting profiles will likely be rapid. When it comes to a Deck 2, by the time that is out, Valve might be a lot more comfortable going for the more mainstream market when it comes to console gamers, when the Deck 1 was released, the software needed a lot of work, games compatibility needed a lot of work, by the time the Deck 2 is out, SteamOS, Proton, games compatibility and the ease of use of the device should be really polished by then that would appeal to a wider audience. I also have to agree with Valve in that the hardware upgrade isn't big enough for a Deck 2 yet, especially looking at the rivals offering, and I feel Valve can get away with 2 to 3 Steam Decks per console lifecycle, assuming there is enough hardware progress to allow a decent upgrade, with that, I suspect 2025 is when a Steam Deck 2 will be released.
They struck lighting with the Steam Deck. After a ton of work on Linux, a ton of thought they struck absolute lightning. I'm finally getting through my steam backlog. I've never been so excited for a steam sale. I Bought the OLED and gave my wife the LCD that I installed a matte screen protector on and a 1tb hard drive. Also we have the WIFI 6 and mesh routers to my gaming pc if I need streaming horsepower. I love the Linux OS. I love the layout. I. love. The. Steam. Deck.
If your game is running and the steam logo covers it and the game appears when tou hit the steam button, it's the startup movies a believe. The native startup movie feature has a toggle to use as wake movie and that caused me a similar problem
Another reason is due to the influences of vTubers. HoloLive, NijiSanji, VShojo, etc. often have streams of them going shopping for games on the Steam store during Steam sale events. They interact with their audiences who would suggest which game to buy, yet each vTuber obviously have their own preference on which game they like. These vTuber would often play multiplayer games with their audience, so this have a huge influence on their audience to play on PC or Nintendo Switch based on the game played.
yeah, they talked about this during the interview, I had it in my draft, but I edited it out, because I didn’t want to take away from the actual interview. This video was more to draw attention to the interview so the people could go read the full thing themselves.
Hey! I had that exact same issue last week! I really wanted to play bg3 but it was just stuck on the steam logo, I had to delete the proton files and reinstall them! That did the trick :)
I was seriously debating whether to get a steamdeck or a new gaming pc and decided on the latter because I sadly realized, I’m no longer a gamer; all games I want to play are older titles that’ll run fine on 2022 mid tier gaming PCs. But I get the “trapped on the PC and desk” as opposed to playing anywhere
honesty steam deck is the most comfortable hand held, the way it fits in your hands like its was perfectly made love it, if you say it is heavy well get strong! i like feeing that it has some weight it dose not feel cheap and light, you feeling how nice and solid it was made very nice
Super cool coverage. Thanks for sharing. I get the argument about the hardware and wanting to push the low price point, but darn would I wish we had a little more power. To me it would be ideal if we could hit 800p, no FSR, at medium settings, 40FPS, on games like Jedi Survivor or Lords of the Fallen. We're not so far but the jump from 30 to 40 and very low to at least low or mid, is usually, very significative.
Being a family man, I need a portable console. When I got my Nintendo switch it was a game changer. I have a PlayStation and Xbox also but I rarely play it because I always get interrupted or the television is taken over by someone else.
Australia? Steam has never sold a single piece of hardware to Brazil, and no matter how bad some things in the gaming market are in here, it is always booming. Too many people are fans of the three main consoles, but they can't get many games because of the price. Same goes for pc gaming, the games are cheaper but the hardware isn't. If valve sold the deck here at a decently affordable price, it'd sell like water in the desert.
I picked my steam deck up about 2 weeks ago. My newly upgraded PC is gathering dust. The steam deck is totally a dad console. I can do dad stuff and then get back to gaming without locking myself away in the office glued to my desk.
From South Africa and your definitely right only available consoles here are parallel imports with ridiculous markups. Decided to get one off of Amazon USA and It was significantly cheaper. If you really want one you can find one but valve would definitely have more success if they were more widely available. I think they’re just consolidating proven markets before they are expand worldwide
I think that they'll force the current Steam Deck model as much as possible, only to then release a "Steam Deck 2" with high-end specs, and a "Steam Deck Mini" with similar specs to the current one but in a smaller form factor.
i have noticed that alot of games comming on switch are either pc games or indie games that are on pc or the deck ,so now im useing the switch for "nintendo AAA games" like (zelda / mario ... and so on) and the deck for "pc games on the go" ,i hope they will make a better steam deck 2! as of now i think lenovo legion is a 2th choise , but i do rather want an "original" deck from the company that allsow has the games (steam / valve) and sure valve dont care what hardware you use since you still need a steam account to play steam games , only thing others could do is to make their own "consol" for each game app "EA-deck" as an example wishlist for steam deck 2: - battery (bigger ,more play time) - 1080 screen (2023 ,at least a 1080p screen ,NOT 4k!) - maby 8inch screen? (havent tested LL yet) - 120hz (smother play) - better travel case (so the cabel can fit inside) subscribe did light up ,but not the like (so guess AI dont like it) hahaha
I really do feel that a ready made gaming box (handheld or not) is the best way to appeal to casual gamers, until everyone is connected so well that cloud gaming simply just works for everyone. At that stage casual gaming goes to the cloud. And I am in the group that prefers to play on the Steam Deck over a console or desktop PC. If the same game is available on Steam and Xbox I will prefer to play it on Steam Deck. Same applies to my gaming PC or Steam Deck, if I get the performance I want out of the Steam Deck then that's my main choice. I still prefer to play older games on original hardware or a smaller handheld though, my Miyoo Mini gets a lot of use. Lastly, I also want to run SteamOS on my main gaming PC over Windows or Pop!_OS. I'd like to dual boot with a more useful and standard Linux distro, but not having to use Windows at all is a huge plus.
Don't have a sution for SSD but this freezing problem is happening with my Samsung 512 gb SD card in steam deck and all I do is eject the SD card from steam deck and then re-enter it again and everything starts working just fine again. I'm facing this issue maybe once a month or so ...and so far it has happened thrice. However I have never changed my stock 256 gb SSD that came with the machine and the SSD has not faced this issue so far.
Holy Smokes... Hell Let Loose is now working on deck with proton 8.1... Even though we don't have the best screen, you can hook it up to your tv or just be a regular helping soldier...or take on the go... woo hoo
Those “competitors” lose the first spot when they slap Windows on those devices. The most plausible point is the silky integration for a pure gaming experience. KDE is good enough, but by putting Nix on the system, you got a full-functioning developing station right away.
Don't know if its a solution to your issue, but have you tried hitting the steam button and seeing if the game is launched? You may be able to switch to it from there.
I seen this. Its with the same games, But doesn't happen every time for every game like Bills. No fix for it from me but game is running in background with logo spinning.
I've been having the logo problem (when I launch a game sometimes the steam logo stays on top of the game) for a lot of time. It's annoying but it doesn't happen too often and if it does I just have to restart the steam deck
About your issue: When you start the game and the steam logo comes up, can you go into the desktop mode and see if the game is running or if there is any error messages?
The steam deck is the only reason i was able to get into pc gaming. It's affordable and there are plenty of great games on steam. I can play xbox games, playstation games, indie games, 3rd party games and pc games all on one platform. No wonder people love pc gaming. But lets be real here, the steam deck feels more like a console experience than a pc experience. If i guy like me, who never pc gamed until the deck can figure it out quite easily, so can everyone else. Handheld pc gaming is the future.
Does anyone know what's going on with the Lenovo legion Go . Why there's no reviews or anything on it for almost the whole month and it's about to launch?
In my weird world, the value of video games is the experience. The value is in the fun. The value is in the experience for the price. The steam deck is probably the best overall value of any console out today, IF you are motivated enough to learn how to take advantage its capabilities. I have thousands of roms from various gaming generations on it, it's portable, I can play Xbox live and ps plus, and many modern games. If I never get a next gen console, I'll have a device that has enough games that will provide enough fun until I grow old as long as the console still works lol. To the non-weirdos , being to play Spider Man 2 is more valuable than using a console that is 10x more versatile.
