Steamed chicken momos are a traditional delicacy prepared usually in the states of Tibet, Bhutan, Sikkim, Nepal and Ladakh stuffed with chicken filling.

Ingredients:
Chicken mince 200 g
All purpose flour 300 g
Butter 2 tb
Salt
Onion chopped 1 n
Carrot chopped 2 n
Cabbage ¼ c
Ginger & garlic chopped 1 tb
Spring onions chopped 1 tb
Pepper powder 1 ts
Soya sauce 1 tb
Coriander chopped 1 b
Garam masala 1 ts
Red chilly powder 1 ts
Egg (optional)
Vinegar 1 ts
Directions:
Take a bowl add all purpose flour, salt, water, mix it like a medium stiff dough and knead it, let it rest for 15 minutes.
Take another bowl add chicken mince, butter, chopped onions, chopped carrot, chopped cabbage, chopped ginger & garlic, spring onions, pepper powder, Soya sauce (optional), chopped coriander, red chilly powder(optional), salt, garam masala, egg, vinegar, mix it well keep aside.
Take dough and divide them in to equal portions shape them into balls and roll out thinly, put a teaspoon of the filling in the middle and bring all edges together in a fancy fan fold.
Steam in a steamer of about 15 minutes.
Serve this hot with tangy sauce.

I made this 5yrs ago and had forgotten the name of the chef so lost track of this vid. This was the best momo i ever made so i had been looking for it for all these years.. I've finally found this again

I want some of that! the first time I tasted momos was in India, in the new mall done in Kerala named Lulu! They were super dooper! We usually call it dumplings in NYC. loved it!

Im Nepali and we neither add garam masala nor egg it gives very bad taste n smell but instead we add salt,chopped onion,garlicginger paste,cuminpowder,chillypowder,momo masala, lilbit msg,cilantro to the minced meat and add hot oil to the mixture and wrap and steam for 15 mints which is served with achar or hot tangy sauce in which boiled tomato,cilantro,mint,greenchilles,4 cloves of garlic ,onion,roasted peanut,sesame seeds,4/5 szechuan pepper are grinded together to make a paste or achar...which goes very well with momos...trust me don't complicate the momo stuffing by adding butter,egg n garam masala,vinegar if u want to hv authentic nepali flavour of momo...although everyone has their own version .......:)

Chef. I made momos as per your recipe. Because I do not have steamer, I used my microwave idli-maker attachment for steaming by placing 1 momo per idli section. I rolled the dough very thin specially at the sides, so thin that some rolled ones would tear while picking them for filling. The filling cooked perfectly after steaming but the skin remained very tight, especially at the join. I had to shallow-fry them so that we can eat them. Can you tell me what I did wrong?

While making momos in Nepal , we don't really add the butter or egg. And the chutney is also almost liquid...not the semi liquid.

I wonder why chicken is not pre-cooked. Only steaming will not drive away the bird like smell the chicken has. The filling shown can be heated in a pan and cook for 15 minutes and cooled before filling in momo. Otherwise the video is excellent

it gets cooked alright. I was apprehensive about this as well but I tried it and they got cooked very well and there was no smell

I have made these and they turn out beautiful.If you cook chicken beforehand the stuffing will become too dry and hard when the Momos are supposed to have nice juicy chicken.It doesn't taste bird like because we add garlic ,onion and soya sauce in these.Since we use chicken mince it gets cooked well too.

Momo word comes from Newari Language which is Nepalese language !! Tibetan call it mogmog and is quite different, even the chutney is very very much different

got the same question... but his recipe of wonton shows him using corn flour n all purpose flour instead of jus all purpose as in the case of momos... not sure how it will taste when steamed....
