Cassava kuih is a traditional kuih made from grated cassava, coconut milk, and gula melaka and sometimes with grated coconut added and then steam or bake. These are poured into a flat-bottomed pan lined with banana leaves or greased if you don’t have. It is steam or baked until it has an even firm consistency and is a light brown color. The texture of the cake can be adjusted by varying the amount of grated cassava used. Cakes with less cassava content tend to be softer and moister, while cakes with more cassava content is firmer and chewy.
INGREDIENTS for the Recipe
700 grated cassava/ tapioca ( divide into 2 portions )
Bottom layer
350g grated cassava
80-100g gula melaka + 50 ml water ( boil until dissolved )
1/4 tsp himalayan rock salt
125 ml coconut milk
2 tbsp tapioca starch
Top layer
350g grated tapioca
50-80g castor sugar
1/4 tsp himalayan rock salt
200 ml coconut milk
2 tbsp custard powder

Looks delicious! Will have to try making this recipe. I believe there is a typo in the subtitles because shouldn’t it be 700 g grated tapioca and not 700 g grated coconut?

Can I use tapioca flour instead of custard powder?

Yes you can as custard powder is to give the yellowish color.

I made just now but not really successful, too soft. In fact, the second half, I steamed for 40 minutes.
