UPDATED JULY 2020: The information in this video is a little bit outdated so I made an UPDATED Guide! Please check out this video for updated instructions: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Fpm4yv_ZlYg.html
Steam vr now recognizes the rift s officially and automatically sets up room scale from your guardian system. I’m so happy and now steam vr no longer seems sketchy when using room scale.
yeah i think if i setup using room scale it would have worked better. at least i got it setup though. wanted to help people who may have been stuck on one part or another.
There is still a problem, since it has to launch both Oculus and Steam VR, it uses up too many resources and keeps cutting off. I can't even play the Lab.
you're welcome! this was as much info as I could gather and I tried to just lay it all out for people who were having trouble and looking for guidance. I know it's not every piece of information and I didn't even fully get my game working as you can see (I think that's more an issue with the specific game I was trying to play though) so anyway thanks for the comment bro I really appreciate it. I haven't done as much VR content as I planned because of the size limits on my room and the complex filming setup required. I may try to do more live content in the future though.
Jonno Plays You should do more VR content, or tutorials. If you do a bunch of vr chat videos a lot of people may watch your videos mostly because it’s a popular game. But anyways thank you for responding and I really like your content bro.
I know how to reset your view when using steam VR, I have a Lenovo explorer and had the same issue with games starting me not facing in the correct direction even after setting up my play space in the windows mixed reality portal, what you have to do is go into your steam developer settings and quick calibrate your view by putting the headset on the ground in the way you want to be forward and then hitting the calibrate button. It will then face you in the proper direction. Kinda dumb when the Quest and PSVR can easily reset your view simply by holding a button down for a second on your VR controller. Welcome to the VR struggle, as I like to call it.
@@JonnoPlays No problem thanks for showing me how to run steam through the Oculus. You can also reset your view easier than that if the game is from the oculus store instead of steam you can simply press the oculus home button on your VR controller and then hit the "reset view" button however that method does not work on Steam VR games.
@@JonnoPlays SO i have been streaming the New the Half Life game Alyx ..but i cant get it to go full screen while streaming , Any help ? im using the a Rift ...Not the Rift S
I did get it to work but unfortunately the game I'm trying to play is in development and doesnt quite work correctly. I actually worked with the developer after all this and he confirmed his game won't work the way I was trying to play it. I probably should have chose another game but the only reason I even tried to setup steam was to play this game. Anyway I just posted to try to help anyone who might need the help. Also the versions of the software I'm using in this video are outdated now
apparently this happens automatically now. the process shouldn't need to be selected because of my onboard cameras in the Rift S. they seem to have fixed this
I'm glad it was helpful. Seems a lot of game developers don't want to make the investment to bring their games to the Oculus Store so this will be helpful to get your hands on some interesting titles over on Steam Marketplace.
So i deleted vrchat on oculus rift and downloaded steam version of vrchat but whenever I launch it, it always lauches in desktop mode. Can you help out please
The device I own has cameras onboard already. You should definitely understand the various hardware offerings for VR before investing. It's very complex and very expensive and you wouldn't want to get the wrong setup for your space or needs.
Is it possible to do this backwards? Play Oculus Rift games through Steam VR. I just bought a Kat Loco which only supports Steam vr games so I was wondering if a mod exists to allow me to play Oculus exclusives through Steam Vr. Thanks
Just a little Tipp. You really should not face in the direction of your monitor because you could accidentally damage it or even your computer by hitting or kicking it. You should face the opposite way. Second reason would be the cable which is on the side of the headset
yes usually i have the green screen between me and the monitor but I only filmed this for setup purposes. i did it at my desk because my setup to film at my desk is easier but normally i play standing up with a lot of lights and studio equipment around me that I have to be careful not to touch.
@@JonnoPlays Ah I see. Well gaming this way makes it even more realistic and immersive coz you could really get damaged by all that equipment 😅 imagine getting shot at in game while beeing hit by a camera or a studio light 🤣
yeah mostly i just try to keep everything out of arms reach and don't move outside my standing position too much. if I film too long it really takes a toll on my knees. there is a new VR game that a developer contacted me about that i'm pretty excited about that comes out in August so maybe I'll be playing that. looking for some other stuff to try too.
@@JonnoPlays why your knees? Do you need to kneel down in order to crouch ingame? Fallout 4, Skyrim and some shooters like pavlov are the main reason I bought this VR headset. Have you heard that No mans sky is going to get full VR support with the beyond update?😍
i have problems with my rift s. 1. my glasses make it uncomfortable 2. the foam does not cover all of the plastic and it hurts 3. in steam vr i ALWAYS lag 4. overall everytime i look left or right with my eyes (not my head) i see like little wavy stuff 5. sometimes it just blacks out 6. that one circle screen thingy 7. in steamvr sometimes some of the screen or most of the screen goes black 8. it gets laggy 9. the screen gets wavy as if im looking through a VHS tape PLEASE HELP ME!
@@JonnoPlays I just did it and the results came in positive. Also, I fixed most of the problems. The only problem I have now are me wearing glasses with the headset on
Do you have the steam vr cameras setup in your room to track you? Do I need the cameras? I’m not trying to waste money on oculus rift s just to hook it up and find out I can’t use it.
I don't know if you can answer this one but I have a HTC Vive, I ordered a Rift S, Of course I will not try to run them both at the same time but Is there a issue using steam for both off the same computer? What do you think Steam would do if you Started Steam VR and it wanted to load a Headset? Would it just look for the one turned on? Would it want to do Room setup again if you ran the other Headset earlier? If you can not tell me anything about these questions, Guess I will find out when my Oculus arrives. By the way, Ordered it a week ago and they still have not shipped. Did not have that problem with Vive.
SO i have been streaming the New the Half Life game Alyx ..but i cant get it to go full screen while streaming , Any help ? im using the a Rift ...Not the Rift S
i got Dell - Visor Virtual Reality Headset but how do i get steam to work thought do i have to download app or something because i dont see steam in it it kind suck that i dont see it
NOTE TO USERS: Make sure your USB is set on all. This is done in Control Panel and having Performance alone set does not enable the active USB, this is in Win7 and Win 10. May be why your set was not always seen. Next make sure for performance your cores are not parked as it is common for many PC's to have this done and will improve performance,. Finally if you want to install on another drive. Use CMD c:\Users\test\Downloads\OculusSetup.exe /drive=W Or where ever the file is downloaded and then W is destination drive.
Yeah I don't like the experience either. I keep getting contacted by game developers to play their game but they are only on steam and I don't like the experience of playing that way. I wish developers would put their games in the oculus store
1 question, have a 144mhz 32" and 1080 8G will the VR and a big screen affects Grafik card or is it better to put the screen on 60mhz or swap for smaller screen?
Hi, thank you for you tutorial! You just saved my life man. How did you managed to fix the issue with facing to the wrong ingame direction? (that foot symbol on the floor) Thank you
I wasn't really able to fix it and I never was able to play the game that I wanted to play. Kind of sad to be honest. It still feels like the wild west for virtual reality owners. I get contacted by game developers quite frequently and they ask me to do weird stuff like play their game through Steam and I'm like why can't you put it in the Oculus store? I just hope Oculus wakes up and starts recruiting developers and making games or something because it's just so hit and miss in the industry right now. As a user it's really frustrating and I've barely used my headset because of issues like this. I just want it to be easy. For what I paid for my hardware it should be easier.
@@JonnoPlays i can feel you on this and thank you for being here for us, i remember myself on year 2011 having games like Dead Island on my steam library but my laptop were from 2007... The menu was withit ok but playing the actual game were worst as a diashow (like 1 frame per 5 second or even less). Ok it isn't the same, it was my fault having an "ancient system" but was also frustrating. Please don't tell me that you never used your Oculus Rift S on other steam games 😲 that were really really sad cause this vr device is a great device and you do wish as gamer to use something you brought and care with love. Nowadays developers are indeed making other stuffs that nobody needs more easy to use but games we all play stay most like that since the release.
I’m having an issue with room setup or standing. It only says that my headset is turned off and can’t detect my controllers either I basically can’t get past the set up part :/
Turn on your system monitor in task manager. Watch ram and cpu and gpu while it's crashing and see which one is crashing. May be your hardware can't do it or settings are wrong and it's not using resources like gpu. Gotta check
So steam now supports it but just remember that some games don't support oculus rift s so sometimes it won't work because of the game, not steam so also check if the game supports oculus rift s
try resetting your Guide in the Oculus settings and doing the floor over again. Steam VR might not match the settings in Oculus if you setup different rooms and maybe that's why.

High Ground Zero Tolerance no just do the regular setup in oculus then download steam vr, go back to oculus library and it should have a + on the right then add steam vr
minermeow hey if you haven’t fixed it already..try deleting steam vr..run oculus then install steam vr as you need steam vr downloaded after oculus to make it work
Having to run the oculus app at all times and no Linux support was a deal breaker so I took it back. Waiting for the HTC Cosmos price. It will probably fix both issues for me.
